Ask BMitch Anything got two segments on a Stefon Diggs Friday, but one question piqued the guys' interest: who could be the Commanders' breakout star on defense? See who picked Odafe Oweh and why!
Transcript
00:00Lock these phones up, because I don't want to get people on hold that we can't get to.
00:03But everybody that's on there right now, you're getting your number called, starting with Scooter in Puerto Rico.
00:09Scooter.
00:09Que pasa, Scooter.
00:12Hey, amigos.
00:13Hey, I had a question for you guys.
00:15What's your all-time favorite sports moment?
00:18I'm not talking about just football, hockey, blah, blah, blah.
00:21It could be Michael Phelps getting the eight goals, anything.
00:25That's for both you guys.
00:27My all-time favorite sports moment.
00:32I'm going to forget about anything I've ever done.
00:34Actually, when I saw Tiger Woods win the Masters, that was an amazing feat.
00:37The last, the 2019?
00:38No, no, no, no, no.
00:39The first one he ever won.
00:40You were down there?
00:41No.
00:42I'm just saying, watching that on TV and knowing all of the history of it and things of that nature,
00:47that right there,
00:48I got that actual, the metal plate that they would do for the printer.
00:54I have that in my basement.
00:55That's cool.
00:56That's very cool.
00:57Yeah, I mean, he torched the field.
00:59I remember where I was actually in New Orleans watching that.
01:02I was probably, what year was that?
01:05Oh, six-ish?
01:06I don't know, but I remember my neighbor.
01:08No, 96-ish?
01:09My neighbor used to have a deal with these people from my Washington Post, and she would get different.
01:14So I have that one.
01:15I have one that MJ scored.
01:16What is it?
01:17Sixth championship?
01:1897.
01:18Yeah, I have a few of those things.
01:20So it's funny, dude, that you say that because I have one of those of the printing plate from the
01:27Washington Post when the University of Maryland won the national championship.
01:31Yeah.
01:31And I was a student.
01:33I was at the game in Atlanta.
01:35I mean, that's, for me, as far as, like, something that mattered the most to me, that's probably it.
01:39The 91 Super Bowl would be up there, too, but I was kind of a kid then.
01:43As far as, like, moments I remember in sports, like, distinctly, honestly, that Hail Mary from two years ago is
01:49something that will always stick with me.
01:50Just the unimaginable nature of it.
01:53That is.
01:54That's in mind, too.
01:55Dude, you know what I will always remember?
01:59MJ's shot over Byron Russell against the Jazz.
02:02Yep.
02:02But, you know, that OG and Anobi tip-in, I'm always going to remember going forward.
02:07That's good.
02:09Mahomes winning that game in 12 seconds left against the Bills.
02:1213?
02:13Yeah.
02:13I'll remember that.
02:14But you look at those moments.
02:16I look at the seat cushions coming down in RFK Stadium.
02:21I look at the clamor flashes coming out of the tunnel at the Super Bowl.
02:28That's cool.
02:30And in Philly, when I think it was the 76ers beat the Bucs to get to the finals against the
02:38Lakers,
02:39and I had never seen anybody in the basketball arena lose their mind.
02:42People were running around.
02:43Everybody had a white towel.
02:45It was that right.
02:47Those moments are absolutely amazing to me.
02:50Just as watching a game on television, you know what's always stuck with me?
02:55When Joe Carter hit the walk-off home run to win the World Series for the Blue Jays.
02:59Yeah.
03:00I mean, that was a crazy one.
03:01But that's the great part about sports.
03:03I mean, there's so many moments.
03:04Like, you're talking about Tiger's first Masters.
03:06To me, I might remember his last Masters, the 2019.
03:09Yeah.
03:09For me, on a personal level, Rory breaking through and winning the Masters,
03:13especially when it looked like he had lost it, and then he hits that crazy shot on 15.
03:17Yeah.
03:17All over the trees.
03:18Yeah, dude.
03:19Sports is the best.
03:20That's why we love them.
03:21Let's go to DK in Silver Spring.
03:23What's up, DK?
03:25Hey, what's happening, guys?
03:26How y'all doing today?
03:27We good, man.
03:28How you doing?
03:29Man, I'm excellent.
03:31Number one, Mr. Mitchell, I want to thank you for all you've done for us.
03:36I, in high school, went to a broad-run high school,
03:39so you and a lot of players helped us out with training between your coaching staff
03:44and the all-season.
03:45So I appreciate all the hard work you and the staff did for me when I was a kid.
03:50Number two, I want to – my first question, if it's the only one for today there to be,
03:56with these new offensive weapons that we have,
04:00what on defense have we done to be able to beat the same type of weapons?
04:06Because Dallas has all these great wideouts that can do anything from linebacker
04:11to DBs that can actually do coverage to shut down.
04:15So with we done a free agency and new coaches have,
04:19what can we do to be better in the defense against all these wideouts in our division?
04:23Well, you would think I'm going to say something about the cornerback,
04:26but I would say Caleb on chase on.
04:29I would say a minute who?
04:30I would say Owe.
04:31A, those guys they found to be able to rush the passer,
04:34that's going to be able to affect Dak a little bit more.
04:36Having a guy like a Sonny Stiles that will keep him from running
04:40and to be able to – him, him, Leo Chennau, another guy.
04:43Yeah.
04:43I think those getting stronger in the front two areas will make the back area,
04:50the back group even better.
04:52You know, and I think having a healthy Trey Amos is going to change up some things.
04:57So I'm looking at for the pass rush to make a big difference this year.
05:00Good question there.
05:01Let's go to Frank in D.C.
05:03What's up, Frank?
05:04Hey, man.
05:05Thank you, Redskins historian.
05:08Last year.
05:09Every year this time I get so upset with this Hall of Fame
05:12because none of our guys are going in.
05:14I mean, really.
05:15I fell asleep on the game last night.
05:17I mean, really, really tears me up because I was telling somebody today,
05:22I think because the curse of snotty has kept our guys from going in.
05:25D. Mitch, Jake, Derek Clark, even Pat Fisher, you know, and Larry Brown.
05:31I mean, you can go down and listen to a bunch of guys that qualify.
05:33One thing I want to ask D. Mitch, I was thinking about it,
05:36because you're my father's favorite punt return.
05:38I always tell you that.
05:39But the very first time you touched the ball in that preseason game,
05:42do you have a tape of that game?
05:44Oh, yeah.
05:46Where would I find it at?
05:48Oh, man.
05:49If you just – you can Google that.
05:52You just pull up B. Mitch's big returns, and that'd pop up quickly.
05:55We were talking about Trey Campbell.
05:57Frank Herzog was called on the call.
06:00On the call.
06:01Yes, 1990.
06:02Yes, summer 1990.
06:03Okay, good.
06:04Taffy Hill, North Carolina against the Atlanta Falcons.
06:08Love that.
06:09Atlanta Falcons, okay.
06:10Lastly, like I said, I didn't watch the telecast last night.
06:13I was so mad.
06:14But did you hear the story about Adam Vinatieri and his grandfather?
06:20No.
06:22Adam – this is crazy, man.
06:23Adam Vinatieri's great-grandfather was in the Army with George Custer,
06:28but he was a band leader.
06:30And they left – Custer needed the band or the drum and bugle corps' horses,
06:34so he left them at the fort, and they went out to the Little Bighorn and got killed.
06:39And so what happened to him is George Custer made it so that this man is alive today.
06:44That was the weirdest story I ever heard.
06:46Because of George Custer, he should mention that in his acceptance speech,
06:50because if it weren't for Custer, he wouldn't be here.
06:52Wow.
06:52That's crazy.
06:53Thank you, Frank.
06:54That was a wild – you never know when Frank – Frank goes deep cuts.
06:57There you go, man.
06:58All right, Jonesy, last one before my question.
07:00Go ahead, Jonesy.
07:01What's up, bro?
07:03Hey, what's going on?
07:04All ears.
07:05And B. Mitch.
07:06What's up, bud?
07:07How you feeling?
07:08We're good, bro.
07:08Check this out, man.
07:09So let's just say, D. Mitch, you run a regular routine when you come in and start your work day.
07:16One of them, just say, you go through and you look at your work box and see what's inside your
07:22mailbox, right?
07:23Okay.
07:24This particular day is special.
07:26You come in, you see inside your box that you got a letter from WWE inviting you to the Royal
07:34Royal Rumble,
07:35not as a regular person sitting in the seat, but a participant.
07:42Okay, you finish reading the letter that brought the invite go,
07:47and then you get to the bottom and see a special challenge from Vinny Serato.
07:53What's your reply?
07:54I'll run to that damn Royal Rumble.
07:57What?
07:59And are you accepting that challenge?
08:03All day, every day.
08:05Appreciate you, Jonesy.
08:06Jonesy, you could have just asked if you wanted to wrestle Vinny.
08:09Yeah, that was a long way to get home.
08:10If you could put us in a cage, I would throw him across the damn cage.
08:14All right, B.
08:15I've been wanting to talk to you about this since this morning.
08:18All right.
08:20So out here at camp, it's so fun because we get to interact with a lot of listeners,
08:25a lot of people that watch us on NBC4, a lot of people that watch Command Center.
08:28You're obviously in a different category because you played here, won a Super Bowl here, whatever.
08:33But I get a lot of folks that, like, say what's up to me, want to take a picture or
08:36whatever.
08:36Like, I'm happy to do anything.
08:38But at the same time, I kind of just walk.
08:41And unless somebody says hello to me, like, I'm not walking around saying hello to random people.
08:46You know what I mean?
08:47Yeah.
08:48And this, like, a young guy, like a 20-year-old dude, called me, said, hey, JP.
08:54So I said, what's up?
08:55He's like, can you take a photo?
08:55I was like, sure.
08:56I walked over, took a picture, then said what's up to another guy, took another picture.
09:00And this lady goes, you're not being very social today.
09:04And I said, what do you mean?
09:06She's like, well, you're not really saying hi to people.
09:08And I'm like, am I supposed to say hi to people?
09:11Just walk around saying hi to everybody?
09:12Like, isn't that, like, thirst trap?
09:15Like, I am happy to engage with anybody who wants to have a conversation.
09:18That's somebody that just wanted to have a problem.
09:20I was floored.
09:21I was like, I am happy to talk to anyone.
09:24But I don't think I have to.
09:25Like, the lamest S is when you're like.
09:27Here we go.
09:27Ma'am, I'm on my way to do a job.
09:30And if nobody says anything, I'm going to get to my job.
09:33But if they say something, I'm going to stop.
09:35But your main goal is to get down to that field and watch the practice.
09:39This was down at practice, too.
09:41Yeah, but, like, that's why.
09:43And listen, I sign autographs all the time.
09:45I know.
09:46I've seen it.
09:46And honestly, I've learned a lot from you to try.
09:49Anytime anybody asks me to do anything, that's how I ended up signing that dude's leg.
09:52And I'm happy to do it.
09:53You got a leg you want signed, let's do it.
09:55You know what I mean?
09:56But, like, I'm not going to just.
09:58I feel like it'd be the thirsty.
10:00And we know people that maybe do stuff like this where they try to walk around.
10:04Be like, oh, does anybody want a picture?
10:05Like, no, dude.
10:06If you want one, I'm happy to do it.
10:08I think if a person is taking his time to sign stuff and speak to people, if he didn't happen
10:14to speak to you, you didn't make eye contact with him.
10:16Because I normally speak to people, I make eye contact with him.
10:18Yeah, I usually ask them their name.
10:19Now, if I'm leaving off the field, I was leaving off the field yesterday.
10:22I had eight minutes to get back up here.
10:25And I said, listen, you have to walk with me because I have to get to the, well, man, I
10:29don't, man, walk.
10:31I said, bro, if you don't want to walk, you won't be getting no damn autograph.
10:34You know?
10:35But then the other people understood, so they started walking.
10:37I'm trying to get to work.
10:38I'm not going to just sit in.
10:40And he had multiple things.
10:42That's the problem with the folks that come out here trying to fill up their whole list or whatever else
10:47they got for their friends, you know?
10:49Or what they're selling.
10:50I'll sign the stuff, but I'm not going to sit there and just do a damn autograph session.
10:54The thing I've had to learn, I still find it crazy that people want me to sign an autograph.
11:00I can understand a selfie.
11:01That's fun.
11:03And I've gotten used to it, and I just do it now with no questions, and I'm happy to.
11:07But I always say, especially if it's a football or, like, a jersey, I was like, you know you have
11:11real football players signing this.
11:13You sure you want me to sign this?
11:14Generally, they say yes, but I still find that nuts.
11:17I just, if people are walking around like, hey, would anybody like a picture with me?
11:21You're a tool.
11:22I'm never going to do that.
11:23Nobody's going to do that.
11:23Nobody should do that.
11:24But the whole thing about it is once you become somebody that's on TV doing work, you are no longer
11:29just a regular guy you think you are.
11:31And I told you that a long time ago.
11:32I'm happy to do it.
11:33I just didn't know I was supposed to walk around.
11:34No, you don't have to do that.
11:35Put, like, a sign on my chest.
11:36I had to tell even Leon.
11:37Remember when Leon was working when I know him?
11:39He'd be hanging around with Jordan Spieth?
11:41Yeah.
11:42I said, yo, bro, you are no longer just Jordan Spieth's handler.
11:45You are a celebrity now.
11:46He's like, no, man, no.
11:47He quickly realized what I was saying was right.
11:50LD might be a celebrity anyway.
11:52Oh, just watch him dance one time, boy.
11:55He is disco duck.
11:57Disco duck.
11:57Disco duck.
11:58up.
