00:17said last year that the extradition request was filed in June 2025 and had been sent to
00:21the Department of Justice. A year later, DOJ spokesperson Rafael Martinez tells reporters
00:27on Thursday, August 6, the agency, quote, has not officially received any document indicating that
00:32the United States has formally requested the extradition of Apollo Quiboloy. Martinez adds,
00:38under the Philippine-U.S. extradition treaty and applicable law, the DFA would be the first point
00:43of contact for such a request. Initial inquiries may therefore be directed to the DFA. But Ambassador
00:48Romualdez tells Rappler the formal request has been transmitted to the Department of Justice.
00:54Meantime, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirms it has received the United States
00:58government's extradition request and that the DFA has endorsed the request to the Department of
01:02Justice. The ball is now clearly in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s court. In 2024, Marcos said
01:09Quiboloy had to face his local cases first before any talks on his U.S. extradition could be entertained,
01:14and said this was not a priority. An ally of detained former President Rodrigo Duterte,
01:19Quiboloy faces a trafficking case in a Pasig City court and separate cases of sexual abuse of a minor
01:25and child in Quezon City.
