00:02An outback town reeling after a tragic night.
00:05It's a shock. It's just something we don't expect in our town.
00:10Emergency services were called to this house in Charleville in southwest Queensland shortly before 6 o'clock.
00:16They were confronted with what was clearly quite a violent crime scene.
00:21Neighbours say they heard screams. Some were told to take shelter.
00:25The officers came over and said to us, inside, inside please.
00:30And so, yeah, we all went inside and that's where we stayed. We weren't allowed to come out.
00:36A reported assault soon escalated and police pulled out from the property.
00:40I'm advised that the threat was such that police felt a genuine threat to their own lives and the lives
00:45of others.
00:45So as a result of that, cert were activated.
00:48The cars were moving back and started shielding off. They started blocking off the area. Lights were flashing.
00:54When officers became aware of a toddler at the front of the house, they went back in.
00:58And police actually put themselves back into what I consider to be harm's way to remove that child from the
01:03premises.
01:04The child was taken to hospital with a minor leg laceration.
01:07Shortly after 1 o'clock, we located the bodies of a 45-year-old male and a 23-year-old
01:12female.
01:13Police are still investigating exactly what happened here and the relationship between all those involved.
01:19Specialist police have now flown in from Brisbane and are probing whether domestic violence was a factor.
01:24The case is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide.
01:27It rattles you to the core and honestly, it's just one of those things that we need to stick together
01:31and work together and work our way through this one as a community.
