00:08We're here for BSB. It's a massive weekend. It's the 100th year anniversary of the circuit. Welcome back, Troy.
00:14Thanks, mate. It's been a while.
00:15What are you doing here? And Oli, how are you feeling?
00:19Honestly, I've had a little bit going on. I've been at World Ducati Week and then Goodwood, so obviously I
00:24miss Donington Park.
00:25So this has all tied itself in. Kim managed to get along to Snetman, which was lovely for the kids
00:32to catch up.
00:33And yeah, I'm back here at Brands. It's been a long time, but it's great to be here celebrating this
00:38milestone for Brands Hatch and also catching back up with the young fella and hanging out with the kids for
00:43a while.
00:43It's been good.
00:45Oli Bayliss smokes them here at Snetterton.
00:49Coming off the back of a win last time out. Can you do it again here?
00:53I mean, that's our aim. That's what we need to aim for.
01:00It's going to be hard because, once again, it's a track that I haven't done that many laps on.
01:04But I think once I go out with some of the fast folks, if I can follow them for a
01:08lap or so, if they'll let me, you know, you can always learn so much.
01:13So, yeah, I mean, I'm going to give it a good crack and see what happens.
01:16You've had some victories here in both BSB and World Superbike. What was it about the Brands Hatch GP circuit
01:21that you love, Troy?
01:22It's certainly got a lot of character, that's for sure.
01:26I mean, it reminds me of places like Imola even.
01:29We've seen some massive crowds here in World Superbike over the years and BSB, of course.
01:35But it's one of them tracks where in some of the slower corners, when you're rolling off the gas under
01:40the brake, you can actually hear the crowd.
01:42It's a pretty cool feeling when you hear that.
01:45But, yeah, great layout, lots of up and down.
01:47And you could say it's an old school rider's circuit.
01:51How competitive are you two at home?
01:53It used to be a bit more full on.
01:55More full on, but now he's come to his senses.
01:57When we get on our tracks at home, it's full on, isn't it?
02:00Yeah.
02:01But we sort of play crossovers more than anything.
02:05So, yeah.
02:07But he's got me covered by a couple of attempts.
02:09You're pretty close.
02:10You're still riding?
02:10Oh, I love it.
02:11At home, I love riding the bike.
02:13If the weather's good, we just roll out the door and go down there and we have a ball, hey?

02:17It's really cool.
02:19Troy, you must be excited to see Ollie running at the front of the British Supersport Championship.
02:23You know, you had a great career here in BSB in 98, 99.
02:27That sort of springboarded you off into the World Championship.
02:30Are you looking forward to seeing your young pup having a ride out?
02:33Yeah, it's unreal, actually.
02:34And it's just funny how it's all come about.
02:37Like, obviously, he's happy here.
02:39It's a great outfit.
02:40And the McAdams triumph and he's really taken to it.
02:43Of course, he rides the same bike, basically, in World Supersport.
02:47But Ollie and Kaya based themselves up in Corley Morris, where Kim and I started out.
02:51So they know some of our friends, which are their friends, of course, as well.
02:57And they just seem very happy here.
02:59So he loves being in the paddock.
03:01And it's good to see the place was kind to Kim and I over the years.
03:06And it seems like it's starting to be good to them as well.
03:13Yeah, big shoes to fill for Ollie.
03:16Anybody who's stepping into the same career as their father, who's been such a success,
03:20it's always the case, Shane.
03:21But Ollie, at the moment now, is starting to show signs that he's got the talent to succeed.
03:26Yeah, definitely.
03:27And I think it's fair to say, you know, that there's an inherent amount of pressure
03:32that comes from being Troy Bayliss' son, you know, and competing in the same sport.
03:36Or any legend's son.
03:38You know, you look at Conor Benn in boxing or whatever, you're always being compared to your dad.
03:42And that's got to be tough because it's different times, you know, different people, different everything.
03:47But I think, in fairness, that Ollie had a little bit of a steadier start.
03:51I don't think that the whole racing thing was really a bit of him in the beginning.
03:56But, you know, Troy kind of nursed it along and pushed him along a little bit and put him into
04:02some good seats.
04:03And he started to find his feet.
04:06And he's doing a fantastic job, you know, to come to British Supersport the way he has this year
04:10and to be achieving the results he's achieving at sort of semi-unique tracks, if you like,
04:14that we have here in BSB is really good.
04:16And I think that's going to really help him going into the World Championship as well
04:19because, you know, when he comes here and he has a win
04:21and then he goes back to a World Supersport race, carry a little bit more confidence in,
04:25start getting away with the same thing, riding the same bike at World Championship,
04:28it can't do him no harm at all.
04:29And he got the win yesterday, Danny, which is ominous for today, actually, for the rest of the field.
04:34Yeah, he rode really well yesterday.
04:35I'm quite surprised how he's coming over and, you know, riding these tracks the way he's riding them.
04:39Like, we've seen him at Knock Hill, you know, we've seen him at Soneta,
04:42we're now seeing him at Brands Ash GP.
04:44And I think he's doing a good job.
04:45And, yeah, even that feature we just saw then with his dad, like, I love it,
04:48all the competitiveness, like, and his dad's just like, yeah, he's got a couple of temps on me.
04:53Like, I love it.
04:53And it's, you know, we're obviously all of us racers and, like, yeah,
04:57trying to keep your son on his toes is, yeah, he's really cool to see.
05:01But I get the impression as well with them that he's not, like, he doesn't,
05:05he's not bothered about his son.
05:06Like, he wants his son to be better than him, you know what I mean?
05:08It's a nice, supportive thing.
05:09And, yeah, I really like to see it.
05:11And he's all for it, isn't he?
05:12He's his number one fan.
05:13So, yeah, I love it.
05:14I'll tell you what, I loved, actually, talking about Tom Buvemos.
05:16Obviously, his teammate who was here before in the British Supersport Championship
05:20is Tom Buvemos in the World Championship.
05:23The minute Oli won the race, the first person at Knock Hill, this is,
05:26the minute that he won that race,
05:28the first person I got a message from was Tom Buvemos.
05:30It said, give Oli a pat on the back from me,
05:33but tell him he still didn't beat my lap record.
05:37You're all the same.
05:38Yeah, you're competitive.
05:39Let's get on to the grid with James.

05:45He's going to rival what his dad did.

05:50I think Troy was one of the best riders ever to get in a bike,
05:53not just in terms of ability,
05:54but in terms of determination and toughness.

06:02Carter, good run to fifth yesterday.
06:04You're getting to grips with the bike now, no?
06:06Yeah, definitely.
06:07I've had sort of a tricky start to the season with Binch,
06:10but, you know, I'm super happy with how the team's working,
06:13how I'm improving on the bike,
06:15and it was a really important race for me yesterday
06:17to, you know, get in the front group
06:19and sit there for almost the whole race.
06:22Did you learn anything?
06:23Yeah, yeah, I learned so much.
06:25Obviously, these guys are so experienced,
06:27but that doesn't take anything from me.
06:29I'm just almost as fast as them now,
06:30so I think I've got something to give to them today.

07:11It was when you watch Supersport,
07:13and because bikes and riders are different in different areas,
07:16it's quite an exciting thing to watch
07:17because you all know where you're good and where you're not
07:20against the bikes,
07:21so you all work to your strengths.
07:22It's really interesting.
07:24Yeah, interesting and it can be difficult as well when you're on the bike.
07:27Yeah, difficult for you,
07:28but listen, we've seen you for a long time.
07:30You almost like a challenge of getting the best out of something, right?
07:33Correct.
07:34But, yeah, look,
07:35I really, everybody knows,
07:37absolutely love riding this CBR 600RR.
07:40Amazing bike to ride.
07:42Really enjoy pushing the limits and over them sometimes.
07:46So, enjoyed the race yesterday.

07:52and put him under more pressure
07:54and maybe upset his rhythm a little bit
07:56because I think that's the only thing that's going to stop him.

10:05It'll be the same story here.
10:07That win yesterday moves him up to fifth
10:09despite missing two rounds.
10:11It's Stapleford in charge,
10:13but 28 ahead now of Ben Curry.
10:17He'll be looking for a big step from yesterday.
10:19His worst result of the season so far
10:21and seems a bit fed up so far this weekend.
10:24Hopefully, he can have a better day

12:57And you feel like they're going to have to ruffle his feathers a bit here

13:12and that, I think it was Hawthorne's,
13:14you saw Ben Curry just get a bit close to him.
13:17He had to just hold on the brakes a bit.
13:18It cost him a couple more tenths.

13:23I think he'll be desperately trying to make a move on Curry

14:50he's actually really enjoying this.
14:52He's having fun coming over
14:54and living in the UK as well.
14:55It's busy with the World Supersport schedule.
14:58There's a lot of rumours around the paddock
14:59that Oli Bayliss' name
15:01is being penciled into potential
15:03British superbike seats for next year.
15:05That would be great to see.

17:51I think he feels almost like he's got to.
17:53And yes, there is an answer to your question.
17:56He wants to try and get out front.
17:58He wants to try and do it.
17:59Oh, Staplefoot, dirties.
18:03I think he got sucked in to Curry then.
18:06Because Curry was a bit hot.
18:08And I think Staplefoot just got sucked in.
18:10He's lost a place to Bark.
18:11So he's dropped down to fifth spot.
18:14Or maybe even sixth.
18:17He's getting a bit hot and bothered out there.
18:19Here in this British Supersport race.
18:21That's really cost Luke Staplefoot.
18:23There he is now behind Oli Barr in front of Harry True Love in fifth.
18:26Yeah.
18:28True Love in Carter Brown, Harrison and Johnston.
18:31That is your top nine.
18:32And it's nearly in a row now.
18:35So, new leader at the front.
18:36But is he going to get swallowed up the end of the straight?
18:38Not this lap.
18:40So, Honda, Yamaha, Triumph, and then Ducati.
18:45Baylis now has just regrouped in third.
18:51Well, it's a longer race as well today.
18:53Remember, 18 laps.
18:55We're only on lap 5 or 18.
18:56But this is where Jack Kennedy will want to be.
19:00Just out in front.
19:02Hitting his marks.
19:03As we say, it's the balancing rules of this class.
19:05We've got all different sizes of engines.
19:07All different capacities.
19:09All different layouts of engines.
19:12And it's creating racing like this.
19:15No matter what bike you want.
19:16But my point is, it's all sort of swings around about a little bit.
19:20Some have a bit better.
19:21Some a bit better on the brakes.
19:22Some might have a little bit more off the turn.
19:24Some a bit more on the top speed.
19:27But all in all, they look incredibly well measured.
19:32And so, little bar just making a mistake there.
19:35True Love coming.
19:36He has an alarm thing.
19:37So, Barr and Carter Brown together now on track.
19:40Harrison behind, then Johnston.
19:43Stapleford then has gone up into fourth.
19:45There's 8 tenths.
19:45He's got to find now to rejoin the top three.
19:48But remember, it's a feature race unlike yesterday.
19:5118 laps.
19:52We're only on lap 6.
19:53Yeah, of course.
19:53And they drop the pace about this.
19:55They're just sort of doing those sort of mid to low 28s.
19:58Stapleford did a 29 on that last lap.
20:00Hence the gap.
20:02It's not, you know, the lap was 27.1.
20:04My point is, it's not a super, super quick race.
20:07At the moment, they're kind of just almost carrying down those laps.
20:10Trying to keep a bit of tyre for the scrap at the end because you know it's going to come.
20:16It's almost like Bayless in third.
20:18He's ready to make a move.
20:19But every time he's attempting one, Curry's trying to line something up on Kennedy.
20:23Up ahead of him.
20:24It's always hard when you're the man behind the dice that's going on because they're going inside, outside.
20:28And you're doing the same thing and it's, you know, it's never simple.
20:33But, you know, opportunities.
20:34It's one of the things about Branson Hatchphone.
20:36This sort of circuit, this organic circuit.
20:38It's not designed on some computer.
20:41And at the end of the day, it means that there's more than one fast line.
20:45It really does.
20:46So you can see these different creative lines.
20:49You can see people getting stuck in different ways.
20:51So you can race on another line and be just as quick.
20:54One line doesn't dominate the circuit.
20:56And it creates this brilliant racing.
20:59Just like that from Curry.
21:01Yep.
21:01On Kennedy into turn one, Paddock Hill bends.
21:05Yeah.

22:02So that is, it was 0.7 as he crossed the line the last lap.

22:32Dean Harrison actually there, just up ahead of Carter Brown, was the fastest rider in this leading ten.
22:37Even Lucas Brown, just in the background there on the MSG Racing Suzuki.
22:41It's just, he's got these guys inside.
22:43It's so encouraging for that second group.

22:50I mean, this super sport class just never, it just never does deliver, does it?

23:34Again, it sort of highlights your point that these varied lines work here in British Supersport.
23:38The slower pace at the front really is, dragging a few more into the party here as we come over

23:44Curry lining up a move now on Jack Kennedy.

23:47Equally, Bayliss doesn't know which way to go.
23:48He's going to go the long way round.
23:52Oh, I'll tell you what, Kennedy doing a great job.
23:56I thought there was almost certainly that Curry would have that then, but he couldn't quite make it work.
24:03And True Love's done a brilliant job as well to be, he's there in fifth, knocking on that door.
24:08And Harrison's been so impressive this year on the short circuit.
24:11Dean Harrison's the fastest rider again, like that last lap.
24:14Yeah, he's been brilliant, fourth overall in the championship, obviously had a magnificent TT.
24:19And he's just, just looks so good in it as well, doesn't he?
24:23Yeah, he does.
24:24He does, he's had the best year of his life so far in racing there, not for 55.
24:28He's been learning and working with Jack Kennedy well.
24:31There's great harmony there as Bayliss now makes his move on fellow Australian Curry.
24:34He goes up to second.
24:35Yeah, he's kind of been looking at that for a few laps, hasn't he?
24:39So the triumph man on the mechanic of triumph.
24:41He looks comfortable, doesn't he?
24:43He does.
24:43On the bike.
24:44Doesn't look flustered, half-race distance, just taking his time.
24:48That's that bit where I mean, he just, he just, he runs him sort of back to the outside in
24:52the end.
24:52He just kind of keeps it tighter for longer than the most, the most of the regular guys.
24:59He's giving himself a shot now.
25:00He was again, just slightly wide on exit there at Sterling.
25:03Is he close enough to make a move here on Kennedy perhaps into turn one?
25:07Now with that move, Stapleford eager in fourth to get through on Ben Curry.
25:13Yeah, I think we can see two moves.
25:16You can see Stapleford up the inside of Curry.
25:19And Bayliss had a look, but couldn't, oh, look at the square and it hops as well.
25:25That was close.
25:26So Stapleford has made that stick.
25:28The Caddy man up to third.
25:30Oh, just nearly cut the back wheel.
25:31Oh, no.
25:32Wow.
25:33They all stood each other up there and that nearly ended in a nightmare.
25:37Oh, it cost the two Yamaha's massively.
25:39So, um, that was super unlucky.
25:43So, well, these things happen.
25:46He's racing sort of gets split the pack a little bit as well.
25:49So listen, watch the, um, watch the bike number four in the picture, the fourth Yamaha.
25:53He looks at the inside there.
25:54Then we realize he can't do it.
25:55Stas has stand up.
25:57And then he clips his teammate, True Love.
25:59And they both, it ruins them both.

26:03Let's have a little look where that's going to go.
26:05So it's probably cost him at least a second.
26:09Second and a bit.
26:10He's going to have difficulty probably closing that back in.

26:19It'd be better off just holding station.

26:40And Bayliss is close.
26:41This time he goes to the inside line.
26:43Surely he'll pull off the move now and lead the Supersport race.
26:46But Kennedy not willing to give it up.

26:51But Kennedy's so late on the brakes there.
26:55Just making it really difficult to pass.
26:57And he's in the tight on the inside.
26:59Coming back across, forcing him to the outside.
27:02He knows how he's going to race on that.
27:04I thought he was going to line up to move into Brown Hill there.
27:06You really have to commit to that.
27:08So Curry in sixth, he dropped, he's lost 1.2 seconds.
27:12So that's what he's lost in that little incident that drew his lap before.
27:16But, there's a long way to go still.
27:18You know, if he can pick up a man in the lap, keep that pace going.
27:21He might still be in with a chance.

39:04You know, it was a disappointing not to have grabbed the win,
39:07but another strong, really strong shine from Kennedy.
39:12And also, he closed a few points on Ben Curry.
39:15He was a couple of places behind him.
39:17Curry's obviously second in the championship, Kennedy's third.
39:20But Bayless again, with Stapletford finishing third,
39:24Bayless again has just taken that chunk,
39:26and it's such an impressive record of the races he's done so far.
39:30It is, yeah, his sixth race and his fourth victory now.
39:34It's also three on the track.
39:36Three on the bounce, yeah.
39:37Three on the bounce are two different circuits,
39:38and it looked impossible when he first came over.
39:43He was a, I think it was a hundred and,
39:47well, I mean, he was so far behind, wasn't he?
39:50What was he behind?
39:50He was just working out at 75.
39:53So he was 98 points, you know,
39:55behind when he started the championship,
39:58which we, you know, because he didn't,
40:00he missed the first two races.
40:01And they're all such different circuits as well.
40:03Monk Hill, Snetterton, Brandt Hatch.
40:04I don't think he's ever been to Alton Park before.
40:08And if you think Brandt's is hard to learn,
