00:00Hello, Bali interiors. My name's Mikey. Come and take a peek inside my paradise.
00:14I've been in Bali for eight years now. This home is our tenth home in Bali in those eight years.
00:22We've moved around a lot. We finally decided that the only way we could really feel settled
00:27was by finding some land and building.
00:40So it took me about a year of hunting around, following lots of people on the back of motorbikes,
00:47hunting around for the perfect plot for our family.
00:50We never dreamed we'd end up this close to the ocean, but we got very lucky.
00:55The house took about a year and a half to build. We moved in in December 2024.
01:01In terms of the style of the house, I like to call it nazi champo, which basically means a mix.
01:07We had a Colombian architect. We have little features like Peruvian portholes.
01:14Then it's single storey, so very much in keeping with the environment that we're in.
01:19Lots of wood and then mixed materials. So we didn't want to just have one colour wood and it all
01:25to look very similar throughout.
01:27We wanted a mixed palette and really to try and keep it refined as possible, but also very practical for
01:33family living.
01:45So this is what we call the front of house kitchen, the tidy kitchen as my husband likes to call
01:49it.
01:50We still have the oven and the induction, but we have a full chef's kitchen out the back.
01:55So here's more like if the kids are baking and there's just day to day cooking going on.
02:00But when the chef is here, then all the sort of smelly cooking, let's just call it, and the mess
02:06and everything can remain out the back.
02:08We use Quadra for the surfaces because we just know it's really durable and it doesn't stain.
02:14And then little features like having the under lighting just make it sort of feel really warm and homely and
02:22practical as well.
02:24And we decided to use Tecla appliances both in the front of house kitchen and all in the back kitchen
02:30as well.
02:31And then Smeg just because it's just a really reliable brand and Samsung we chose to go with with the
02:38fridges.
02:52So we've got the main dining area here that opens out onto the indoor living.
02:58We really thought passive design was really important.
03:01So you've got pocket doors that you can open and have a complete cross breeze.
03:05We did install ACs, but that was actually more for when we do short term rentals,
03:10because there's going to be a time when people are coming on holiday and they want to shut all the
03:15doors and put the AC on.
03:16Maybe if it's rainy season or something like that.
03:18But we've only ever switched the AC on once because we just love this open feel.
03:24And then, of course, you have the view.
03:37So the sunken area is something that we use pretty much every day.
03:42When we've got friends over, it's great to come and have your nibbles and your drinks before dinner.
03:48We get beautiful sunset views over there.
03:51And even on rainy days, we've got the shades that sort of can bring it down.
03:55And yeah, it's just used every day.
04:11So this is the master bedroom that basically has 360 views of the ocean all the way to Uluwatu on
04:18a clear day.
04:19It also doubles up as my office.
04:22So basically, I feel like the most blessed person when I wake up every morning to beautiful nature and Mama
04:30Bali.
04:31And we decided to use Hevea for all of the bed linen.
04:34And we went with the bamboo.
04:37And the sheets feel like silk.
04:40They're super soft every night.
04:42We all have the best night's sleep going.
04:48Okay, this is the master bathroom.
04:51One of my favorite rooms of the house.
04:52We went with the Philip Lakeman tiles.
04:55I call them English mustard color.
04:58That's goldy yellow.
04:59A really nice big deep bathtub.
05:02And then we double sinks and then backlit mirrors.
05:13So we really wanted an organic-shaped pool to match the contours of the land and the property.
05:20And it's got the affinity edge with the beautiful grass that grows around the edge.
05:26Next, I'll show you office by day, TV room by night.
05:36This is my husband's office during the day.
05:40And then at night, it's our family TV room where we close all the doors and hunker down and watch
05:45family movies.
05:46But it's also got beautiful 360 views as well.
05:50And there's a bathroom so it can double up as a guest room if there's an overspill of people coming
05:56to stay.
06:02So I've got two teenagers.
06:04So they have a mirror of the rooms that look exactly like this.
06:08With large beds and desks.
06:10And then a staircase that goes up to a sort of hangout knock for teenagers.
06:16But also when we rented out, you could put an extra bed or two up there.
06:21And you could have a family sleep in here with mum and dad downstairs and the kids sleeping upstairs.
06:35So the children wanted a really neutral palette.
06:38And I found these Venus tiles that are super cute.
06:42Sort of like a little bit like a disco ball, but nice and white and clean.
06:46We went with a quadratop again.
06:49Ulin on the floor of the shower.
06:52And the tiles throughout, we were going to do terracotta outside and in.
06:57But then realized it was just going to be way too much.
06:59So we've gone with Roman tiles throughout all of the internal of the property.
07:04And they feel really nice texture on your feet.
07:07And of course, they're great when kids are running around and it's all wet.
07:10It's not slippy at all.
07:22So this is our rooftop.
07:23We get amazing sunset views over there.
07:27The sunrise in the morning over the top of the house.
07:30And yeah, we may cover this in the future.
07:33So we use it a little bit more, but it's perfect at the beginning or at the end of the
07:37day.
07:38In terms of the main building, we wanted to connect the two parts of the building.
07:43So there was like the teenage retreat on one side, then the living and the master on the other side,
07:49but connected by the roof.
07:51And that was quite a challenge for the architect, but we definitely achieved it.
07:56So when it's raining, you can still move between the two parts of the building and not get wet.
08:19Thank you, Bali Interiors, for coming and taking a peek inside my paradise.
08:23Bye-bye.
08:24Bye-bye.
08:25Bye-bye.
