Transcript
00:09Right before I get on stage, I'm always thinking about my life, the choices I've made and everything
00:13and my friends and the people I love and everything.
00:17It's excitement, it's a little bit of fear, but not a bad kind of fear, it's a good kind of
00:22fear.
00:22You know, it feels like you're riding some kind of wave.
00:32On show days, I still get really nervous and stuff like that, but it's what I love to do.
00:38Right before they turn the house lights off, my heart always starts beating quick.
00:44I always feel like I'm going to forget the first notes.
00:47I just go up and I'm just somebody, it's not even that I'm somebody else, I'm me, I'm just turned
00:53up to 12.
01:09The best shows are a blur.
01:11The best ones are the ones where you're not even thinking about what's coming out of your mouth in a
01:15great way.
01:16You're just up there kind of whirling around and dropping occasionally and sweating and just being free.
01:24The feeling is very visceral on stage.
01:26You know, you definitely feel your heart pounding very quick.
01:31Playing the show isn't work.
01:33That to me, like that hour and a half or 45 minutes or whatever, you're lucky enough to get on
01:37stage.
01:38Like that is, that is, that's the cherry on top, man.
01:41Like you would do that shit for free.
01:43When things are going great, time goes by really quickly.
01:47You know, it's almost like you get on stage and it's nothing but sweat and blood if you're playing hard
01:52enough.
01:53And it's, it's crazy.
01:55Time can go by really fast.
01:56That breath I've been holding in all day just finally exhales and I can, I don't know.
02:02It's like you get to just be your complete unabashed self.
02:06Like you're not, you're not holding back anymore.
02:08I mean, to me being up there is the definition of freedom.
02:13And rock music to me is the only art form that can make you feel that freedom.
02:29You get these great moments where you, you see a kid out there and it's like this weird connection.
02:35And they're like, oh shit, you're looking at me.
02:37And I'm like, oh shit, you're looking at me.
02:39And you have this moment, you know, and like, wow, this is surreal.
02:42Like, you know, I wrote this song in my basement and like there's this song that it means as much
02:48as it means to me,
02:49it means to you, but in a different way.
02:51And that's, you know, one of those, those great moments when you realize how universal music is
02:56and how beautiful, you know, what we're all doing is and how precious it is.
03:09There's certain songs that are always going to be connected to my wife now simply because of the tour we
03:15did together
03:15and how much they, they, how much more of a meaning she gave me to fight again and keep doing
03:21it again.
03:22So there's so much of that.
03:23I remember sitting in a desert with her and writing Na Na.
03:26And so I think about that when I'm up there.
03:28I think about her saying, no, take the risk.
03:30Don't take the money.
03:32I think about that.
03:33I think about that.
03:49We still haven't fought it
03:51Are you holding the gun?
03:53Take the money and run
03:54We'll never die
