Watch as a family's safari drive turns into the wildlife encounter of a lifetime when a tigress and her three cubs emerge from tall grass just metres from their car.

The breathtaking footage, filmed by Ankush Jizilwar near Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India, shows the tigress unexpectedly stepping out from the roadside vegetation.

The family had spent the evening searching for wildlife after hearing reports of a nearby leopard, but were preparing to head home when the dramatic encounter unfolded.

As the tigress appeared, the driver instinctively reversed the car to give her space before watching in amazement as her first cub emerged from the grass.

Moments later, the remaining two cubs followed their mother across the road, creating an unforgettable sight just as a motorcyclist approached the area.

The driver flashed his headlights to warn the rider, who spotted the tigress in time and stopped at a safe distance while the tiger family crossed safely.
