00:17and it felt like the right thing to do, really.
00:19So, yeah, definitely, definitely when we were making it there,
00:22at the moment we were thinking,
00:22why aren't we just doing a fourth series
00:25when we lost our minds?
00:26But it felt like the story to tell was their holiday
00:31and the best format to tell that holiday, the story in, I think,
00:34was as a film, really.
00:35It wasn't so much, well, the series has been incredibly popular,
00:38we ought to take this to the big screen.
00:40I think it was just that we had a desire to write a film
00:42in this territory and as the TV series were so successful,
00:46people loved those characters,
00:48it was just the natural solution is to put them on holiday.
00:57You don't just walk up to a girl in a club and introduce yourself,
01:00you dance over near them, make the eyes
01:02and get them to dance with you.

01:08We pick it up as they leave school,
01:10so I think it's important to say that Simon, the character Simon,
01:13hasn't moved to Wales.
01:15You'll see that.
01:16I think we sort of filled in some gaps there
01:18and the idea is basically that his dad's job fixed out fine
01:21so he's not going to move to Wales
01:22and then everything's looking good and it's the end of their time
01:25and they're going to go on holiday
01:25because that seems to be what everyone does
01:27and there's definitely a sense in which,
01:29you know, when we were that age, that's what happened.
01:31There's a sort of gap in between the end of the third episode,
01:33the end of the last series and the film
01:35that you can fill in your own gaps
01:36but they're not that hard to fill in,
01:38but there's a few gaps to fill in.
01:38What could be cooler than getting our names tattooed on each other?

01:45You know, I genuinely think that one of the reasons the show's been,
01:47well, the main reason the show's been successful
01:49is because, you know, we saw a lot of people
01:51and certainly for those characters, but just in general,
01:54those four men are four of the best young comedy actors of their generation,
01:58if not the four best comedy actors of their generation, I think,
02:01and to get them all together in one show has just been amazing.
02:03A mark of the sort of professional attitude, I guess,
02:07and their approach to the film was we said,
02:09do not, whatever you do, go to the gym
02:11because, you know, it's a holiday film,
02:12we don't want you to come all buff and toned,
02:15obviously, because it needs to be as real as possible
02:16and these characters wouldn't, aren't buff and toned,
02:19so we turned up on a thing and they were all like,
02:21Simon Bird's like, spent months of the gym.
02:25He's always had quite a big show, I was like, yes.
02:27Yeah, no, he looked a little bit like,
02:28is it when Ned Flanders takes his top off in The Simpsons?
02:33We were like, oh, come on, mate.
02:34So we had to sort of, luckily, who cannot resist,
02:36gorgeous food and we were on the beautiful island of Mallorca,
02:39so every weekend when we had days off,
02:41we just took him to wonderful tapas restaurants
02:43and stuffed his face with food.
02:44Joe Thomas actually had a quite funny quote he said,
02:46which is that, he said that shooting the film
02:48was a bit like shooting series four,
02:49except we're in Spain and we're drunk all the time.
02:53I'll have sex with you.
