00:00Well, under the previous government, we inherited a situation where we're running out of prison places.
00:04That would mean that by this October and November, we wouldn't have prison places.
00:08So we're building lots more, but through the Sentencing Act, we have important changes
00:12where people will leave earlier than their sentence state would have meant they did usually,
00:16and they'll be subject to stripped community controls when they do so.
00:19In terms of numbers, that's about 5,000 people over 10 months from October.
00:24For comparison, ordinarily, about 4,500 people leave every month.
00:28So our probation services will be working on those cases to make sure those people are subject to really rigorous
00:34controls.
