00:00I've always been honest that mistakes were made. We had a prison building program which was in our
00:06manifesto in 2019. I was very proud of that target. It got derailed by COVID. The program got derailed
00:13and mistakes were made. We built more prison places but nowhere near enough. But now we've
00:19got to fix the problem and even we had early release. There were 10,000 people released
00:25under 14 years of Conservative government. 60,000 people have been released under two years
00:31of labour. This is not right. And the thing that worries me the most is that the category of people
00:36that they want to release from September include the most dangerous people, killers, rapists,
00:42paedophiles. As we heard from the victims this morning, that absolutely is the worst possible
00:49option in terms of solving this challenge.
