00:00Out, my boy Luke Morrow is in.
00:02And Luke, you okay if I address that for you?
00:04I got that handy?
00:06Yeah, yeah, I appreciate it.
00:07I think it bothers me more than it does Luke.
00:10I think so, yeah.
00:10I think it kind of turns Luke on a little bit.
00:12He's getting a little bit of a reputation around here.
00:14Tyler Milner's on the ones and twos behind the glass over there.
00:17We are the drive of Sports Radio 610.
00:21Soon to be 95.7, the fan.
00:26So we want to keep that buzz alive,
00:27make sure everybody out there is aware that we are moving over to 95.7.
00:32We'll still be here at Sports Radio 610,
00:33but we'll be making a jump to 95.7.
00:36August 13th, the day the Texans kick off the preseason,
00:39a game that night, that game will be on 95.7.
00:42The fan, I want to make sure everybody out there knows what's going on.
00:46It's our last full week, man.
00:47Is it?
00:47Last full week as an AM station.
00:49Last full week, okay, okay.
00:50That's wild.
00:51Yeah, man, that's wild.
00:53But we will be here.
00:54So all of our AM listeners, Sports Radio 610 long-timers, old-timers,
00:59hey, man, if you like the fuzz, you stay right where you are.
01:03We're going to be here, too.
01:04But 95.7, the fan, it's going to be more crisp.
01:07It's going to be clear.
01:08It's going to have a longer reach.
01:09We're going to be easier to find.
01:10It's going to be a beautiful thing.
01:11It's a big, big, big thing in our world,
01:14so we greatly appreciate everybody tagging along
01:16and making it important to you as well.
01:20I got in the car with old Astro Granny the other day, Luke.
01:22She said, what's that station y'all going to be on?
01:25I said, 95.7, Mom.
01:27She said, let me flip it over there.
01:28She flipped over 95.7.
01:29She said, ooh, that's clear, baby.
01:32That's clear.
01:33I said, yeah, Granny.
01:34It's going to be clear.
01:35You can hear it.
01:35There ain't no more breaking out when you're going underneath the bridge
01:37or when you get in a parking garage.
01:39Not that she spends much time.
01:40We ain't got too many parking garages in Baytown.
01:41You know what I mean, T?
01:43But she is absolutely excited about it.
01:46So we've got a big show lined up for you today.
01:48The Astros, baby, they're hotter than fish grease right now,
01:50111 of 12.
01:52Major League Baseball trade deadline is today.
01:55We've got about three more hours, boys.
01:57We've got about three more hours.
01:58Do the Astros add?
02:00Do they need to add?
02:01Who have they been linked to?
02:03Did Jim Crane overstep?
02:05Who are they linked to as we speak right now?
02:08And the Texans training camp is rocking and rolling.
02:11Practice number four, day number five.
02:13I'm going to assume D'Amico let them boys go to church yesterday.
02:16Practice number four is in the books.
02:19It's a second practice that was a public practice.
02:22Meaning that the fans were out there.
02:23They put pads on today and your boy Dirty was in attendance.
02:26I got a little something.
02:26Got some takeaways there for you.
02:29And the Texans.
02:30They signed two players, both of which we've seen in a Texans uniform previously.
02:35But one of them is a monster name.
02:39And I am absolutely stoked about the ad.
02:42Love both the ads.
02:43But absolutely stoked about one of them.
02:45But Luke, we've got to get started with this trade deadline, man.
02:49Look, the Astros are up against it now.
02:51The last couple of weeks, it's been a rollercoaster ride.
02:54Are they buying or are they going to sell at the trade deadline?
02:56Well, them boys got hot.
02:57They've won 11-12.
02:59They're two and a half games up in the division.
03:03And I don't know if it's fool's gold.
03:04I know you think it is.
03:05At least at one point, you thought it was.
03:07I don't know if it's fool's gold or not.
03:08But I know right now I'm going to ride this wave.
03:10And these boys are hot as all get out.
03:12And the trade deadline is here.
03:15It'll be in the books by 5 o'clock today.
03:17We've got three more hours.
03:18I think the Astros are obviously, right now, buyers on today's market.
03:24Reportedly, the Astros had a trade in place that was all but signed off.
03:29And owner Jim Crane, he stepped in last second, vetoed that trade.
03:33That was Brian Abreu for Twins left fielder, leadoff hitter Trevor, is it Larnak or Larnak?
03:43Yeah, Larnak.
03:44Larnak, there you go.
03:45He had a breakout year this year, or has had a breakout year this year, slashing 286-373.
03:523-4-59, 10 home runs, 41 RBIs.
03:57And then that trade was nixed by Jim Crane.
04:01And Luke, I know you stayed plugged into this.
04:04I want you to add anything that you got here.
04:06But reportedly, the Astros are linked to Kyle Stowers, left-handed bat, outfielder, first baseman for the Marlins.
04:14He was drafted by the Orioles, traded to the Marlins in 2024.
04:1816 home runs this year, 48 RBIs, 778 OPS.
04:21He's had a really, he's been hot in July now.
04:23Not Jordan hot, not Jeremy Pena hot, but he's been hot in July.
04:29Seven bombs, 8-12 OPS.
04:32Ultimately, reputation, word on the street is, we're talking about a power bat with a high K rate and a
04:38high percentage.
04:39So, a little feast or famine there with that particular player, that particular prospect that they are a player that
04:46they are, they are, they are been linked to.
04:48Your thoughts on both the veto trade as well as the Astros reportedly being linked to Stowers out of Miami.
04:55Yeah, yeah, a lot packed in there.
04:58I think Stowers would be a good addition for the Astros.
05:02I think it's interesting that the Marlins have the same record as the Astros.
05:06The Marlins are a game and a half out of the playoffs, and they're sellers at the deadline.
05:11Now, of course, it's different.
05:12They're not in first place, and they are the Marlins, so they're very cheap.
05:15But to get back to, or to answer what you said earlier, I still do believe it's a bit of
05:19fool's gold with this Astros team.
05:21With that said, though, you have to do something today.
05:24Either you sell, which would seem crazy for a first place team, or you buy, which is the more likely
05:29scenario, it seems, for these Astros.
05:32But you have to get something done, because otherwise, the guys in the clubhouse are not going to be very
05:37happy that they've put themselves in this position by winning 11 out of 12,
05:41taking over first place, and then you don't do anything, which then circles back to the other point that you
05:46brought up about that vetoed trade,
05:48which I do not understand.
05:49And it's one of the complaints I've had with Jim Crane over the last couple years.
05:53It's one of the reasons why I didn't like the Carlos.
05:55I know I'm the only person here that didn't like the Carlos Correa trade last year.
05:58Boo!
05:59I take it back, Reg.
06:00You can call him Hayden-Ass-Luca any time you want.
06:02And Tyler, off air, you know, said tongue-in-cheek about trying to get Verlander out of retirement to come
06:07here,
06:08but that's what Jim Crane almost is like.
06:10It's like in Moneyball.
06:12It's like Billy Bean in Moneyball, Brad Pitt, where he said, like,
06:16I don't go on the road with the team because I don't want to get two connected guys.
06:19I can't cut them.
06:20And Jim Crane loves these guys that he knows.
06:23Brian Abreu is a free agent at the end of the year,
06:26and relievers are the most volatile players in baseball.
06:30I don't know if Abreu has a future here where Larnich has team control beyond this year,
06:35is having a good season, would fill that hole.
06:38And I know Abreu's pitching well over the past month.
06:40I get it.
06:41But you have to give up something to get something.
06:43I thought that would have been a really good trade for the Astros.
06:45I hate that it's the owner who vetoes it and doesn't let the GM who you hired to make these
06:49baseball decisions,
06:50you don't let that GM, as bad as he might be, make this decision or make this call.
06:55Dana Brown said over the weekend that Jim Crane and Jeff Bagwell are in the war room this time of
07:00year,
07:00which I think is a mistake.
07:01Stay out of the way.
07:02Let your GM operate.
07:04But Jim Crane also said they don't want to trade anybody on the big league roster,
07:08and they don't want to trade away their big prospects.
07:10Well, then who are you going to get rid of?
07:12So I almost feel like he gets this attachment,
07:14and he doesn't want to get rid of any of these guys because of some sort of emotional attachment.
07:18But to get better, you've got to get rid of somebody,
07:21and Abreu, to me, would have been a fine candidate to get rid of to improve your outfield.
07:25Well, the one good thing, I can't disagree with anything Luke just said,
07:29but the beauty of it is Abreu pitched this weekend like he was appreciative of Jim Crane.
07:36That's true.
07:37Didn't he?
07:38I mean, look, I haven't followed every inning that he's pitched this year,
07:41but he looked like the old Abreu.
07:43I think he got in two outings this weekend, and he looked like the old Abreu.
07:48The velocity was up.
07:49Again, I put so much stock, Luke, into, as I'm watching the game, what does this guy look like?
07:56I mean, does he look like he's overwhelmed?
07:58Does he look like he's lost?
07:59Does he look like he's frustrated?
08:01Perfect example.
08:03I'm $18 million worth of being patient with MI.
08:06When I watched him in that last game, it was hard enough to watch him walk bases loaded and do
08:10what he was doing.
08:11But the look on his face, and again, I'm from two different cultures,
08:15so I may be misinterpreting here,
08:17but it looked like there was either an overwhelmed frustration or a eff it, Coach.
08:23I'm going to throw what I want to throw up there.
08:26The thought of just throwing strikes was out the window,
08:28and so I immediately was like, hey, I'm out on MI.
08:31So I'm big on what I'm watching, like the look of what I'm watching.
08:34And I'm going to tell you, man, Abreu looked like his old self.
08:37So the fact that Crane did it, I don't know what to think about it, to be honest with you.
08:42But I love the way the player actually responded,
08:46and it looks like made the owner at least proud.
08:49I don't know if he made him right, but...
