03:50And I think my source, a lot of activities over the weekend, and even members of our team,
03:57they would have participated in drumming activities at a number of celebrations in Port of Spain.
04:05So it's always, you know, nice that, you know, we can see our teammates being part of the cultural
04:11and the entire landscape of Trinidad and Tobago.
04:15Yeah.
04:16So, Captain, let's get right into the meat of the matter, because I know that while people
04:21were holidaying and enjoying themselves, from what I'm seeing here is that you all continue
04:28to be very, very busy in these exercises, that you all are forced to mount all across
04:34the country looking for people and assisting people and so on.
04:37And Marlon, we do so voluntarily.
04:40Yes.
04:40It's a volunteer organization.
04:41So, we had our annual general meeting, I'll deal with it a bit later on, yesterday, so
04:47I got in at about 12 p.m. and at 2.40 a.m. this morning, the phone rang.
04:53It was a distress call from the Blanchise Police Station, and they indicated to me that there
04:59were some hikers who went into the Pitti-Takarib area, that's beyond Paria Bay, and that they
05:07were due to, they went in on Saturday and they were due to come out on Sunday.
05:11And they did not.
05:13One of the minors, a female minor, parent had no, absolutely no idea why, and she did call
05:23the police and report the matter, and so the police contacted us, and by 6 a.m. this morning,
05:29we were in Blanchise Shares.
05:31Yeah.
05:31And by 10.24 a.m., as you can see, well, here it is, here, here is us riding the
05:39police
05:40Jeep, getting a bit of help with the walking.
05:42And at 10.23 a.m., we met them, and you know, I want to say this, Marlon, you know,
05:51the hiking
05:51fraternity, I met with them.
05:53After, you remember the hiker?
05:55Yes.
05:56In Madamas, I met with them, and we formulated on plants in terms of how to strengthen the
06:03industry in terms of the governance aspect and the regulatory aspect.
06:07After that, let me tell you what we encountered today.
06:11We encountered five persons, all five were wearing slippers.
06:15Slippers?
06:16The person who was in charge of that group was wearing slippers, a short pants, a jersey,
06:21a small backpack.
06:23The minor, the 17-year-old female, when she met me, she was very hungry.
06:31She ate all my rations and drank my water.
06:35And we have to caution parents, please be careful who you're sending your children with,
06:43and especially on hikes.
06:46If it is that you were due to come out Saturday, it was your duty to contact the child's mother,
06:53the children's parents, and tell them that you're staying an extra night.
06:58Marlon, you know we live in today's world, parents are very iffy with their children,
07:05and they are not making sure.
07:08So today's exercise is one where amounts to a lot of carelessness,
07:14and children could have been endangered on this exercise.
07:20Imagine having to trek in those conditions.
07:22You see, my suggestion is, Captain, this sort of delinquency has been going on for too long.
07:32I don't have to tell you that, because you and the team, you all are intimately involved in these searches
07:39for people.
07:39And it is just my view, because from what I understand, it is not mandatory, if hike leaders and hikers
07:47want to go on a hike,
07:49it is not mandatory to report it to the authorities.
07:52But to me, this has to be reported to somebody who is going to be, who is the hike leader,
07:58that team leading the hike, members of the hike,
08:01what time you are going in, what time you are coming out.
08:04Exactly.
08:05Specifications like that.
08:06And you are passing right in front of Blanchisha's police station.
08:10The policemen on Saturday saw the vehicle, and they were wondering what was going on.
08:15So they were doing their traces, and then they got the call about the hikers not coming out Saturday night.
08:21And it pleases a lot of responsibility.
08:26But you see, parents who are viewing this program today, I want to caution you.
08:30I have said publicly that any form of outdoor recreation should be encouraged.
08:38I am 62, and I am physically fit.
08:41It was an easy walk for me today, right?
08:45And I was up since 2 a.m.
08:46So, we want you to do, we want you to get out there and exercise.
08:51But be careful who you choose to send your children with.
08:56Go to the Hiking Association of Trinidad and Tobago website.
09:01Listed there is a number of hiking clubs that conforms to the rules and regulations and standards as set by
09:11the Hiking Association.
09:13There are a number of them, I know some of them, and they are very, very good.
09:18They work with first aid kit.
09:20You have to have good hiking shoes.
09:23You have to, you know, have enough nutrition for the hike.
09:28They will rate the hikes.
09:29Sending a 17-year-old girl on a hike from Blanchisher's Bridge to Petit Takarib was a lot for her.
09:43Right?
09:44And so be careful, parents.
09:45But there have to be repercussions for people who are not following these rules and regulations.
09:51So I left the hike leader in the police station giving a statement and I was firm with the officer
09:57in saying, explaining to him our findings.
10:01And I think that is what, you know, encouraged him to sit with the hike leader and say, listen, let
10:09me take a statement for you.
10:10I hope it goes beyond just a statement.
10:12What makes matters worse, we are in the rainy season.
10:16Yes, and it's very, very difficult to plan a hike in this sort of rainy weather to Petit Takarib.
10:26Explain.
10:27I'm taking 30 seconds, Jackie.
10:29Explain what can happen in the fraction of a second on these hike trails during the rainy season.
10:36Right.
10:37So you're coming down a steep, steep, you're making a steep descent.
10:41But at the top there, rain begins to fall.
10:45The stream at the bottom is what you call a raging river.
10:49The incline is like this.
10:51It throws up a lot of stone.
10:53And by the time you descend that hill, that water becomes raging in like about 30 seconds.
11:00It will become raging.
11:02You are then blocked.
11:04But I hope no one would attempt to cross a raging river.
11:08But then you are blocked.
11:10And you did not make preparations to stay overnight because you didn't carry a torchlight.
11:17You were planning to come out 4 p.m.
11:18You didn't carry a torchlight.
11:21You have to endure that rain and you have to wait until the river goes down.
11:25So once you're in the environment, any outdoor environment, there are certain things you have to pay attention to.
11:33And you have to be responsible at all times.
11:37Yeah.

11:39Captain, let's move on.
11:40We do have another mission.

11:44We went on mission.
11:44We started this mission.
11:46And in consultation with the Trinidad and Tobigo Coast Guard, we found that there was a gap in the Eikaka
11:54shoreline that should have been searched.
11:56We attempted to search it.
11:57But in order, this is where I don't know.
12:00Marlon, are you familiar with Eikakas?
12:02No, that's one.
12:02You don't know the Eikakas wetlands.
12:05So where the Eikakas wetlands are, the white area there, the swamp lands.
12:10Right.
12:10And this red here is showing where it meets the sea.
12:14Okay.
12:14And this is the Eikakas point here, southernmost point of the Eikakas Peninsula it's supposed to be.
12:20Now listen, we went all the way down and all the way around.
12:26So this little red area was not done.
12:29We attempted it at the low tide.
12:31The low tide wasn't sufficiently low enough.
12:34And so one day this week we decided in consultation with the Coast Guard and there was a prediction for
12:43extremely low tide.
12:44We were able to walk the coastline.
12:46We were searching, of course, for Nicole Landetta, the missing Venezuelan national.
12:54And this was really our last effort to try and, you know, see if we could get her in the
13:01mangrove.
13:02But we were unsuccessful.
13:04So Marlon, she remains missing.
13:06But let me just make this point.
13:07I listened to Friday's program with ASP Rampalada.
13:11I can't recall the police councilman's name, right?
13:14Francis.
13:15Francis.
13:16And, you know, it was a program where I learned a lot, right?
13:21So, you know, in one interview I think it was with TV6 when Nicole went missing.
13:27I think it was when we found the 60-year-old girl.
13:31You know, I spoke about maritime policy and maritime regulation.
13:35So I was happy to know that ASP Rampalada and PC Francis were here to try to pull together where
13:42they are with sorting out all of this.
13:47Because the maritime issues, we keep getting them over and over.
13:53Yeah.
13:54Mission three.
13:55No snake in caste.
13:57Well, this happened.
13:59I just brought it.
14:00I said, let me send it to Jackie.
14:02Because it's one I would think, you know, I wouldn't say a funny moment.
14:06So I was on my way to Ikakas.
14:08I had to pick up a team meeting.
14:10Penal.
14:10And the Penal Police Station called me and said, Mr. Rambrot, we have an issue.
14:15I said, what is the issue?
14:17He said, that gentleman is complaining that there is a snake in the caste thing on his left foot.
14:26So I said, listen, I'm in the area.
14:28It will take me 10 minutes.
14:29Let me go check it out.
14:30And, you know, I went.
14:32It was pretty clean.
14:34I must say the caste.
14:35There was no scent.
14:36It was very, very clean.
14:38But the gentleman was adamant that there is a wriggling thing inside there.
14:43So after on close examination, I was able to tell him, first of all, one, there was no snake in
14:49the caste.
14:50But the caste is one month old.
14:52So there's a loose, I would call it the loose.
14:56Brandage?
14:57Yeah, inside.
14:58And it happens.
14:59I have suffered many broken limbs.
15:01So, you know, it has, it tickles you.
15:07Okay.
15:08It tickles you and it could make you think there's all sorts of things.
15:12But I did advise him to go to the superior hospital and seek medical attention.

15:24All right, so we do have a robbery for you that occurred in Kurep.
15:32All right, so is it that the person in the red cap is being robbed, attacked and robbed?

15:46He was shoved, he was pushed to the ground.
15:49And broad daylight, lots of vehicles.
15:52And it tells you that there's absolutely no care in the world.
15:59They needed the money, they needed what he had.
16:02They wanted his property and absolutely no care in the world.
16:07So this is a daylight, breezing robbery.

16:24At Kings Bay, east side Tobago.
16:30All right, so Marlon, I'm familiar with this area, the Kings Bay area in Tobago.
16:35And to have an accident like that in that area is very, very unusual, but certainly a lot of damage,
16:43severe damage to the front of the vehicle.
16:46And it means that, therefore, the impact would have been, it would have had, the vehicle would have had to
16:52go through, undergo a huge impact.
16:55And, you know, speeding rarely results in these types of accidents.

17:26Firearms recovered, 142 pistols among the stash vet, 19 rifles.

17:35Ammunition recovered, 2, 568 rounds of 9mm.

17:41Get this, 5.56 ammunition.
17:45Very, very dangerous ammunition.
17:47And dangerous drugs seized, 582,217 grams of cannabis, 7,214 grams of cocaine.
17:57Marlon, you know I'm closely associated with the hunting community.

18:03When you can see 42 shotguns recovered, that is of concern to me.
18:08Because shotguns are not used in robberies.
18:10Right.
18:11And it is alarming, it is an alarming statistics.
18:16And it really bothers me that this amount of shotguns, illegal shotguns, have been recovered.
18:23So, you know, please let us not purchase illegal shotguns.

22:11Your group have been involved in so many exercises.
22:16As it relates to missing persons.
22:19Over the years.
22:20Have you seen a trend?
22:22Yeah.
22:23What stands out to you?
22:24What stands out is really the fact.
22:26Currently we've seen a reduction in the number of runaway female teenagers.
22:32And to me that's good.
22:33And Marlon.
22:34I have always said.
22:36The fact that we publish their photo quickly.
22:39Yeah.
22:40To me is a deterrent.
22:41And you know the females if they're thinking about running away from home.
22:46You know they know that most likely their photo will go up.
22:50And I think it's acting as a deterrent.
22:53And then the second thing is we hope that every other policy that is in place to deal with the
23:00issues surrounding runaway teenage females.
23:05That those are fruitful and we're seeing some results from it.
23:11So I am hopeful.
23:12We continue to see the elderly go missing.
23:17And there hasn't been a reduction in that trend.
23:20And with respect to persons who are victims of murder.
23:25It has been reduced.
23:27But the thing is we still get three or four for the month.
23:32And for the month ending July 2026 there have been 29 reports of missing persons.
23:38Five remain outstanding.
23:40Right.
23:40So actually the number is four because we were able to locate one for July during the day.
23:49So yeah you're correct 29 reports.
23:51And that's keeping like one per day which is not the trend we were seeing earlier in the year.
23:58It was much lower.
23:59But we had predicted that like from June when CSEC is finished and the July August vacation kicks in.
24:09We will see an increase in those months.
24:11So you see we finished with 29 for July.
24:14And we still have four persons outstanding.
24:18Gregory Caprieta.
24:19Now and you know because he has been missing since the 5th of July.
24:27You know we want a red flag this case because we've checked everywhere for Gregory and we've not been able
24:33to find him.
24:35Now Marlon sometimes you know the descendant to the homeless society so that's a possibility.
24:44But we've not heard or seen from Gregory since the 5th of July and that's of concern to us.
24:52And then we have a Venezuelan male national Robert José Flores González missing from ConopÃa.
25:01It is alleged that he was kidnapped from his business place.
25:05Based on the latest information we have Marlon this is a case I read flag or the team has read
25:11flag since the last week.
25:13We've been unable to locate him but the information coming to us is that Ham may have come to him.
25:22And Ricardo Reyes is still missing.
25:26Now we have had two sightings of Ricardo Reyes in the EREMA district.
25:32Nobody was able to send us photos of the gentleman.
25:35We feel strongly that it is Ricardo Reyes.
25:38So hopefully by the time we get to the end of the week we can say safely that we would
25:43have located Ricardo Reyes.
25:47And then of course Nicole Landietta remains missing at sea.
25:51And you know I want to say this.
25:55We feel that since we've completed the shoreline search that if in fact she got into difficulty having fallen off
26:06a sunken boat
26:07then there's a high probability that her body would have gone past the Ikakas Peninsula and into that like Soldado
26:17area there.
26:19I must say the Coast Guard has been in contact with us at all times.
26:24I know the Air Guard and the Coast Guard well at least up to Friday last we're involved in cities
26:30for her.
26:31And then for August thus far we have had three reports of missing persons
26:39and we have now two who remain outstanding although I sent in trees so I'll clear it up with Jackie
26:46in our wine.
26:47We had this case coming up.
26:50He has last been seen in July 2022 and his sister is now tracking him.
26:56He had two residents, one in Gasparalo and one in St. Magdalene.
27:01So Jerome, Mark, Paul and this is of concern to us because we did put up his pit here
27:09and absolutely no one has come forward with information on Jerome, Mark, Paul.
27:15So if viewers, if you're from that St. Magdalene in the line area there close to the police station and
27:22Gasparalo,
27:24if you have information on Jerome, Mark, Paul, the police, call the police at 800-TIPS-999-555

27:38His sister is now following up to try to locate him.
27:43We had Brian Anthony Moore but he was missing and while I'm on the program here a message came from
27:52his sister.
27:53that he was located and so, you know, we're happy that Brian Anthony Moore has been safely located.
28:01And then we have Kaylin Shurama.
28:05Now, she's her first time.
28:08We suspect female runaway teen and she was last seen on the 1st of August.
28:14She's from the Borneo West Arruka district and while we're working with the parents, we've gotten no credible information
28:22which could lead us to try to locate Kaylin.
28:26So, if you have information, please call 799-1453, I know she have a bunch of aunties and uncles who
28:34are very, very,
28:35and her father and mother, they're very, very concerned for Kaylin.

28:48Captain, I have about 30 seconds, but how much time should elapse before relatives report a missing person to, let's
28:58say, the police or to the organization?
28:59But there was a stipulation of 24 hours and the police has removed that and they, you know, but I
29:11would tell you,
29:12I could understand why they had it in the 1st place.
29:15It would give time for relatives to contact their family and do some checking around for themselves.
29:22And I also understand what happens and I'm using it here.
29:26We have a missing person case. Take, for example, Kaylin Chirawan.
29:31When we go through with the parents, we know there's no red flag.
29:36She's not in danger.
29:38Okay.
29:38And that she would have left home voluntarily.
29:41And so, you know, we wait, we look at it.
29:44But, you know, you can, if you have a missing person, report it immediately to your police station.
29:51Report it to us, but we wait until you go to the police station and you provide us with the
29:56receipt.
29:57Yes.

34:45People always ask, how, where are the resources, what do you all need, how do you all get by your
34:54volunteer organization?
34:56We are a duly constituted non-governmental organization and we have an executive that runs the organization.
35:07And so, you know, we met on Sunday for our annual general meeting and all posts will, and I must
35:17say, we have a good camaraderie amongst the teammates.
35:21They know, you know, who they need to put to get the job done.
35:26And so we had, we had persons selected, unopposed, nominated and elected, unopposed.
35:33So the gentleman in the center there, Mr. Ram, not Ram Charity, he's our chairman.
35:40And then his extreme left there, you have Mr. Johnny Maraj, he's our treasurer.
35:45And, you know, the entire executive.
35:47Of course, there are whole set of committees like events and so forth.
35:52Right.
35:53Committees and stuff.
35:54So we are a very democratic organization.
35:57And you notice I'm not on the executive, right?
35:59But, but, all right.
36:01I see a smile about that.

36:05So what we have really is a good support system.

36:08That, that, that provides everything for the search team.
36:13So even though I'm leading, let's say, for example, today, 6 a.m. we were in Blanche's shares.

36:24So we had a backup.

36:28And then you had another team coming up with all, everything you need.

36:57Turtle meat and eggs seized.
37:01During the operation, officers discovered that they, that there was a carcass suspected
37:05to be that of a turtle together with a quantity of turtle meat and turtle eggs believed to
37:10have been unlawfully moved from a nesting site.
37:13That's very significant there.
37:14Yeah.
37:14Unlawfully removed from a nesting site.
37:18Yeah.
37:18And of course, you know, I, I, I, I condemn all forms of poach in Bamala.
37:25Let me tell you, we live on two islands.
37:27We are two islands.
37:29All right.
37:29We have a lot of fishing going on around our islands.
37:33The use of the nets, the transparent nets to catch fish.
37:38Sometimes they have to cut the nets and just allow it to go.
37:42So nets are stuck on rocks and other forms of debris in the sea.
37:47Now that poses a great danger to other forms of life like the, like the turtle.
37:55Yeah.
37:55We have five types of turtles in Trinidad and Tobago and you are not allowed to consume
38:01the meat of any and as well as the eggs.
38:04And there is a reason for that throughout the world.
38:07Turtle conservationists.
38:10They are paying attention to the species and they know that the, the species has a lot
38:16of challenges in order to survive in the environment, marine environment.
38:21And so, you know, they've established these as what you call, you know, protected species.

38:36My concern about the first event, Captain, is that it's 1766, right?
38:45Um, there was a massive 8.02 between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, all right?

39:04you know, and my neighbor ended up sending miles away.
39:07And my call for this this evening is because, um, with the last week at the place in Venezuela,
39:16you see that piece of, um, in, in, in, in, in citrus where he lands, you know?

39:24Eraser, in 2018, I used to be working in that Solnado field.
39:30And I, I, I, two days, a day before I predicted the 2018 earthquake.
39:39And the feeling is there once more.
39:42But my real concern is, there's a lot of people still going, going into that restricted,
39:49supposed to be restricted area, you know, and, um, I think the authority means they get
39:56a little more strict to avoid people from, from going too much in that area, something
40:02in that feeling right now.

40:13But the geologists in Trinidad, the geoscientists, they've confirmed that there's a correlation
40:18between the structure of Trinidad and the structure of Venezuela, and I'm talking about
40:25subsurface.
40:26So the geological formations, uh, uh, um, similar, as well as you have the, the Caribbean
40:34plate and the South American plate, um, you know, just close by.
40:40And, and, and, and it is, um, recorded as one of the areas that will have, um, movement.
40:47And, you know, we have to, we have to accept it, first of all, we have to learn how to
40:52live
40:53with it.
40:54For a long time now, and I know in 2018, there was, I believe, a, a, a, a 6.8.
41:00But, but, but, but our, um, persons at the UE seismic center, they must say, expect something,

45:37So, Marlon Hunter Switch and Rescue Team, we also do wildlife rescues and here it is three of our members,
45:45you know, they were called out to kill their village in Rio Claro.
45:49And the resident said that there was a large snake near the home and they went through the home and
45:57they were very well trained to handle these large snakes.
46:01It is a red tailbone constrictor, also called the macawell and locally called the macawell snake.
46:10These are non-venomous and they're part of our ecosystem.
46:15So, what we do, Marlon, is that we would safely remove it.
46:18First, here they are checking for ticks and injuries.
46:21If it is that the snake is injured, we take it out of it.
46:24We remove the ticks and then we relocate it to our forest.
46:28We got a number of complaints.
46:30Oh, you're capturing them and you're releasing them and they will come back to people's home.
46:35Marlon, we go deep into the forest and we release them into their natural habitat.
46:41But there are a number of reasons why they will come to our home and I'll tell you one.
46:46You see, one, you may be minding, you may be rearing poultry at home.
46:51These large snakes would love to have a chicken.
46:54And the second thing is that if it is you have rodents around your home, they will come because, you
47:00know,
47:01they're very good at keeping the rodent population in balance.
47:07And so, if you have rats, they will come around and if you have poultry, they will come around.
47:12So, you know, as a poultry farmer, you need to take preventative action to stop the snakes coming.
47:18And let me thank the residents.
47:20Do you see all males?
47:22Now, somebody could have taken our cutlass and things.
47:25But you know what we've seen?
47:27An increase in calls.
47:29People are seeing what's being done and they're calling and they're saying, you know,
47:33come out, come, come, come, come as sisters, come take this snake.
47:36And they're, we're happy.
47:37Yeah.
47:38And I'm sure that the rainy season too is contributing to this.
47:42Yeah.
47:42So, what happens in a natural home may get waterlogged.
47:46Yeah.
47:46And these snakes always look for a warm, cuddly area, warm, nice area so that they can sleep.
47:54So, you know, that's another contributory reason why we see them around our homes.

49:24they were working towards ameliorating those days.

49:30We need them to get back into those programs.

49:42it's the time and effort that would go into these operations and the resources.
49:49So, I'm thinking that, and I've asked you this before, what do you all need?
49:54Because, of course, everything costs money.

49:57So, while we do have a good executive and the business community, they do support us.
50:04So, most of them would prefer to remain anonymous.
50:08They are very expensive equipment that we need and has to be replaced.
50:12For example, I'll just tell you this.
50:15Sometimes you go out on a search like this morning, then you have to deal with the weather.
50:20But you're using your GPS.
50:22It may become damp and its lifespan will be cut short.
50:27So, GPS are very, very expensive.
50:30You know, there's another item that's very expensive, snake boats.
50:33Snake boots for one of our members cost like $2,829.
50:37Snake boots?
50:38Yes, snake proof boots.
50:39It's a specific type of boot?
50:41Okay.
50:41Yes, snake proof boots.
50:43And it's very comfortable as well, so that, you know, members' feet are always protected.
50:50But it does provide some bit of protection in case a trap gun goes off, right?
50:57Really?
50:57In terms of it, yes.
50:58So, we use that to protect ourselves.
51:00We need, currently, we need radios, two-way radios.
51:04They've got ones.
51:05They're very expensive.

51:49We need to talk to the young people.
51:52So, we get out there, we do outreach programs.
51:56Marlon, we also have a youth program within the organization.
52:03There is one of them.
52:05We met this young man.
52:07I don't know if Jackie has his pity at one of our outreach programs in Penal Presbyterian.
52:13And his mother, you know, spoke highly of him, and he has since joined our youth program.
52:19So, we call them the Ocelots.

52:23And they are the future members of Hunter's Search and Rescue team.
52:27And we have them young.
52:29We train them.
52:29There are a number of events planned for them, especially we would have to plan one for the July or
52:35August vacation.
