00:10Tell me how you felt at the beginning and how you felt at the end.

00:16I feel like it was just zen throughout.
00:18Like, I was just locked in.
00:21You know, I got out of the car and I just, like, was just in the moment.
00:26And I just feel like I was in the moment throughout and just won with the people of Chicago.
00:31You know, I think that was one of my favorite gigs I've ever played.
00:35And I think I'm just in love with Chicago and Lollapalooza now.
00:40I mean, that was the best crowd ever.
00:42Have you had the chance to explore anything, like, from the city while you've been here?
00:46I haven't had a lot of time.
00:48I took a little walk yesterday before I came to the festival.
00:52And then last night we, like, went out to celebrate.
00:56Um, after, after my set.
00:58So, um, I've, I, I've had fun going around Chicago and I gotta say the people were so nice.
01:03Like, everyone was trying to buy me a beer and I was like, I was like, what did I do?
01:07No, what did I do to deserve that?
01:09No.
01:09Well, you just had a birthday.
01:10You just turned 21, right?
01:12Yeah.

01:26Talk to me about how that collaboration came to fruition.
01:30That was so cool.
01:31Well, first of all, I grew up on five seconds of summer.
01:33So that was like so full circle.
01:35Um, yeah.
01:36So a while ago, um, Luke asked me to join them at their show in New York.
01:41Okay.
01:41Um, but I couldn't make that one, but we were both playing Lala.
01:44So I was like, let's just do Lala.
01:45So Lala came around, we were playing on the same stage.
01:48So it was the easiest possible situation and they're all the fucking nicest guys.
01:54Um, and it, it just, the crowd loved it.
01:56It went so well.
01:56I was, I was, it was, it was, it was so cool.
01:58I was like, it's definitely a pinch me moment being up there with those guys.
02:01Cause I'm such a big fan.
02:03Do you ever have a lot of those pinch me moments where you look out at the car and
02:06you're like, Oh my God, we went from playing clubs to now these sold out shows.
02:11Yeah.
02:11I mean, it's crazy.
02:12I think last time I was playing in Chicago, I was playing a small club.
02:15And now I'm playing the United center, um, you know, this fall.
02:19So I think it's, it's just like so full circle and I just, I can't believe it.
02:23I can't, I'm just so grateful, you know, to my fans for getting me here and supporting
02:26me.
02:27I think one thing that I've definitely noticed is how grateful you are about
02:30everything, about taking in the moments that while you're out on stage, while
02:34you're seeing the people enjoy your show, uh, you had a very vulnerable moment
02:38yesterday where you did say like earlier this year, honestly, I was not in the best
02:42head space, what made you feel so open and ready to share that with the audience?
02:46And what were you hoping to connect with?
02:49Well, I think a lot of my music is very vulnerable.
02:52Like my body isn't ready and back to friends.
02:54And I think, I think it's like important for people to be like honest.
02:58And I, I just, I, it's really important for me to be honest with my fan base.
03:02Cause I want people that are going through the same struggles to like, know that they're
03:05not alone.
03:05And like, I go through the same stuff and I could be someone's favorite artist and
03:10I want them to know that, that, you know, it's, it's, it's normal and you're going to
03:15get past it.
03:16And I think at the end of the day, we're all human.
03:18A hundred percent.
03:19And your, your trajectory of how you got to where you are, it almost feels like it
03:22happened like one day, like one night, one viral video and your life changes.
03:27And I think that emotions are the same way.
03:30A hundred percent.
03:30One moment, anything can change.
03:32It's crazy.
03:33Yes.
03:33It's amazing.
03:34That's social media, man.
03:35It's crazy.
03:35And you are, I mean, you're Gen Z.
03:38Do you ever see what's on social media and like, do you ever let that chatter get to
03:41you or is it all water off your back?
03:44No, it's, it's water off my back, man.
03:46I, I, I, the love is just so insane.
03:48And I'm, I'm so like, it's, it keeps me motivated.
03:51It's why I do this.
03:52So I'm just so grateful to everyone for showing me love.
03:54And, you know, it's, I wouldn't, I wouldn't be here without social media.
03:58I wouldn't have, you know, my songs on your radio station without, um, without social
04:03media, so I'm just, I'm, I'm so grateful to have it as a tool.
04:06Um, but also it's always great to set boundaries with social media and not like spend your life
04:11on social media.
04:12But, but I think it's an amazing tool.
04:14And we don't spend our life on socials, hopefully, but you did spend a lot.
04:17We're here now, we're living in the moment.
04:20Um, you're from New York.

04:21So I don't know if you know this, but people say that Chicago is like a mini New York.

04:27That's actually what we were all saying when we landed in Chicago two nights ago.
04:30We were like, this is like literally New York, but like a lot more chill, like in a good
04:34way.
04:35Um, and like, I like Chicago.
04:36Like, I feel like I could spend time here and I'm excited to come in the fall.

04:53Um, what is one of the songs that since you've been on tour, you've been most excited to perform?
04:57My Body Isn't Ready.
04:58A hundred percent.
04:59Like it's always your newest song where I'm like, oh yes, I get to play it.
05:03Everyone's been waiting for it.
05:04So I'm just so excited to play My Body Isn't Ready every night.
05:06And like, I can't believe hearing people sing along to it when it just came out is like shocking.
05:11Oh, they're, they're up all night the night that it comes out memorizing the lyrics.
05:15I know so.
05:15That's crazy.
05:16What was, what was the intent behind My Body Isn't Ready?
05:19I know it was more of a personal song for you.
05:20Yeah.
05:21So I wrote My Body Isn't Ready about struggles I've had with my body image my whole life.
05:25And I got, I had Indy Navarrete in the video and Josh Houston in the video.
05:28And I think the intent for the song was just to, to, to talk about issues I've been struggling
05:34with so that people that also have the same struggles can feel like they're not alone.
05:38You know, if they're going through the same thing and I'm, I'm, the response has been
05:41amazing.
05:41And I'm just really glad hearing from people that it's helped them.
05:45So I'm just, I'm so grateful that, that I'm in a position where I can do something like
05:48that.
05:49And I think also it's so important to have that conversation, like as a man, I think we, we
05:54are very open about our conversations that we have, I think with women and body positivity.
05:58And I, I love that you're extending that to everybody because I think everybody does struggle
06:03with that.
06:03A hundred percent.
06:04And I hope, I hope men hear the song who feel weird or insecure to talk about it.
06:10Um, you know, may, may see that I'm a man talking about the same thing and may, it may help
06:15them.
06:16So yeah, I don't know.
06:17And even through your insecurities, you've still had such an amazing year.
06:20You were nominated for a best new artist at the Grammys.
06:23Yes.
06:24Insane.
06:24And you got to take your mom.
06:25I know.
06:26It was so special.
06:27Okay.
06:27So, uh, please tell me a little bit about that.
06:30Yeah, it was so fun.
06:31I brought my mom to the Grammys where we took photos on the red carpet.
06:35And I just remember like, um, like I, I could not believe I was there, like being on the
06:40floor there sitting around all the biggest artists in the world.
06:42It's crazy.
06:43You know, you never expect to get there.
06:44I never expected to get here.
06:46Um, and I just remember like it hit me like during the D'Angelo tribute and I would just
06:50started like crying, um, to my mom.
06:52And this was like after my performance and it was just like, it was so crazy and such a special
06:56moment.
06:57Yeah.
06:57I'll cherish it forever.
06:58And honestly, it must be so special to be able to bring your mom after knowing that
07:02like you wrote songs in your childhood bedroom that have brought you here today.
07:06Yeah.
07:07And I remember like when I, I dropped out of high school to, to really pursue music and
07:11my mom was kind of against it.
07:12So being able to bring her to the Grammys is just like, told you so, but I love you.
07:17Never doubt me again.
07:18No, she didn't doubt me, but it's like, she was just a mother, you know?
07:21Yeah.
07:22I mean, she had your best interest in mind.
07:24I love her so much.
07:24And obviously it worked out.
