00:00What I love about first-time clients is they have a little trepidation, but they
00:04are very excited to see what their hair-free journey is going to look like.
00:08So I love that enthusiasm.
00:12I have heard horror stories about laser hair removal. I've heard stories about
00:17people getting their face scarred because the person didn't know what they were doing.
00:21I'm Meena, I'm 27 years old, and I'm getting laser hair removal done today.
00:26I'm Arab, I'm Middle Eastern, I'm literally a hairy beast. I am the Chewbacca of laser hair removal.
00:34I'm an on-camera reporter, so I shave pretty much every single day or every other day.
00:39I'm wearing dresses, I'm wearing heels, things that are strapless, and I cannot have that on camera.
00:46It's just annoying and it's a nuisance. So in a perfect world, I'd want to get my face done,
00:51my arms, my underarms, definitely my legs, like everywhere, like literally everywhere.
00:57My name is Erica Bell, and I am a registered nurse at Seb Laser Aesthetics.
01:01I went to Hampton University, which is a historically black university, and I decided that I wanted to
01:07come back to California and I wanted to merge my love for beauty and aesthetics. I became a client at
01:15Seb Laser, and then the friendly nursing staff found out that I was a nurse and invited me to apply.
01:21My first time shaving, I think I was in about like sixth grade, and I just remember being in the
01:27bathtub and like blood coming out of my leg, which was so gross. It was so painful and I remember
01:33it
01:33burning and being like, is this what it takes to be a woman? I cannot, this is the worst. Okay,
01:39I have to do laser hair removal, like this is the only other option I have to keep my sanity.
01:44We at Seb Laser believe that everyone's a good candidate for laser hair removal. Our laser technology
01:50is very smart, and it is the latest technology, so anyone that has hair that is pigmented can get
01:58laser hair removal. Hi. Hi. I'm Nurse Erica. Mina, nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. We recommend that
02:05you do not pluck, wax, thread, or nare no other forms of hair removal besides shaving prior to your treatment.
02:23During the procedure, Mina will feel snaps from the laser. She'll feel the cool air, which we turn down for
02:31the face because it makes it a little bit more difficult to breathe during this process if there's
02:36just air blowing in your face. And then she'll also feel a little heat. You never want to feel a
02:43lot of
02:43heat. You want it to all kind of be a smooth transition from one zap to the next, one area
02:49to the next.
02:51What is that smell? Everyone always asks. It is called plume. It is the hair follicle burning.
03:01It smells like 4th of July. When I got to Mina's face, we wanted to show how bright and beautiful
03:08and
03:09luminous her face was. We did this by contouring her face with laser. I removed the hair from her
03:14hairline to her eyebrows and even around her sideburns as well.
03:23Oh my gosh, it feels so ridiculously smooth.
03:29This is embarrassing, but I had like this one prick leaf right here, and it's like totally gone.
03:35Like it's not even there anymore. Mina was so excited seeing her first treatment,
03:41and that's what makes me most happy. After that first session alone, I felt like my skin was smoother,
03:48which isn't why people go get laser hair removal done. It was just like a very cool side effect.
03:54It's a little tingly right now, but it feels so smooth. It feels way smoother.
04:00My least favorite part about the laser hair removal procedure was when I was getting my face done.
04:05My eyes were tearing up, and people were like, oh my god, are you okay? Are you okay? The area
04:10is sensitive,
04:11so my eyes water, but I wasn't dying or like screaming in pain. I haven't experienced my hair
04:17growing back thicker with laser hair removal. Like even with my armpits, when the hairs like started
04:22to grow back a little, I like looked at it, and this sounds so disgusting and weird. It just like
04:28slid
04:28right out. Like the hair just slid out. Results vary because hair growth is hormonal, so we recommend
04:34clients to come in six weeks after their first treatment. The hair will grow in thinner and
04:39you'll have less of it. With laser hair removal, you're at least working towards a goal where if
04:44you're investing money, you at least know the hair is either getting thinner or it's not going to come
04:48back again, and that is a way better feeling than feeling like you're going to have to be in this
04:52weird
04:53purgatory of, you know, paying for waxing for the rest of your life. When you get laser hair removal,
04:59your skin holds on to that heat from the laser for a couple of days. It's really imperative that
05:05you protect that skin. That's why we recommend not adding heat. No saunas, jacuzzis, intense exercise,
05:11and of course staying out of the sun. I'm super excited to get more sessions done to see if the
05:18hair
05:18is gone forever, if it really does thin out, how my face feels afterwards. I'm excited to see what's in
05:24store and I'm excited to get more sessions at SEB. Thank you so much for watching Refinery29.
