00:18I wasn't super adventurous with my hair growing up. I didn't really do anything
00:22out of the ordinary, partially because I just didn't think I was like edgy and
00:25cool enough to do like an interesting color. I just wasn't sure if highlighting
00:29or balayage would work with my personal style. Also I don't think my parents would
00:34have been okay with that. My mom dealt with my hair by pretty much trying to I
00:39guess wrangle it. She tried a variety of different like straightening, treatment,
00:44low drying it, you name it we probably tried it, but nothing with color ever.
00:48My mom knows that I'm dying my hair. She doesn't know like the color is gonna be
00:53and I was like well, she'll find out when she finds out. I'm most excited about trying
00:57a new look, kind of pushing myself out of my comfort zone, doing something a
01:00little bit different. It's a new decade, 2020 is coming up. I'm ready for it.
01:06Hey, so what do you want to do today? So I was thinking of rose gold ombre, lighter at the
01:10bottom, like fading up into my hair, maybe a little bit of balayage. Have you ever
01:14colored your hair before? I've never colored my hair before, but I do have a relaxer in it.
01:18Okay, and are you doing the relaxer at home yourself or at a salon? I'm doing it on my own.
01:22So I'm just gonna take a little piece and we'll just do a test strand and see
01:25what our options are. Okay. So I did the test and I want you to see that's not good
01:30news. It definitely didn't lift even or well, so I just don't think it would be a
01:34good idea. Well that's a little disappointing. So what we can do instead is
01:38we can do a direct dye. We will just get a hint of a kind of deeper color. I'm
01:43thinking something berry would be nice. A little apprehensive, like I don't know if
01:46it's gonna actually like look the way I think it's gonna look. I don't know if it'll look good on
01:49me.
01:49We'll get a little bit of a reflection. It'll just kind of give that hint of
01:53that berry feeling. It's not too permanent and I think you'll get to test it out.
01:56You know what? I'm open. Let's do it.
02:05Are you ready? I didn't even really ask you. I mean I am.
02:10Originally I came in thinking that I was going to get a rose gold ombre balayage style hair transformation,
02:16but we found out because I've been doing relaxes at home that my hair will actually
02:21disintegrate when I lighten it. So instead I'm going to try to do an eggplant berry
02:28color and get bangs. This berry color is kind of edgy and I think it'll look good on me.
02:35Because of the chemical relaxer I think that it just wouldn't be safe and we would damage your hair.
02:40Sometimes when people have previously relaxed their hair the potential for damage or the hair
02:45actually disintegrating or breaking inside the foil is very high. The possibility of
02:49overlapping is very common. Also the ingredients just aren't as high quality as in the salon.
02:59Alright, so we are done and Sarah's gonna come over and she's gonna do your cut.
03:07So what we're gonna do to start is cut your length and just get rid of all the dead ends
03:11and then we'll come around and start the bang and have that flow back to the nice soft long layers.
03:18In second grade I believe my mom cut my hair herself and it didn't really work out so it ended
03:25up getting
03:25shorter and shorter and shorter. My mom was like you look like Halle Berry and I'm like I don't. I
03:29really don't.
03:42We'll throw a flat iron wave in it so you don't have to leave with it straight and you can
03:45see it with some movement.

04:15When I first came in I was really really set on the rose gold look but I would rather have

04:21hair than breakage and I love this like deep berry like almost eggplant color and I love these bangs so
