00:05Okay, well, for a while I won't have to do my eyebrows.

00:10So this episode is really special because it involves me conquering a fear.
00:15Needles freak me out!
00:16I got my eyebrows microbladed.
00:19Essentially, it's a semi-permanent way to fill in your brows.
00:23And it lasts over a year.
00:2552 weeks, 365 days, a year.
00:28Your eyebrows are permanently there.
00:30For me, as someone who does fill in her eyebrows pretty much every single day,
00:35that's pretty freaking awesome.
00:36So I started thinking about getting my own eyebrows microbladed about two years ago
00:41when my coworker and friend Alyssa got hers done.
00:44I've had to really convince me Anne that this is worth it.
00:46It just so happened Alyssa was due for a touch-up on her own brows.
00:50So we ventured all the way to Long Island to visit Amelia Berry,
00:54founder and eyebrow extraordinaire at Permaline Cosmetics.

01:04and I'm here with me Anne today on an eyebrow adventure.
01:07A tattoo on your face, essentially.
01:09It seems like it's gonna hurt.
01:11I always insist that it's not that bad, but your eyes water when you get your eyebrows done,
01:15like when you get them waxed or threaded.
01:17That's true.
01:17It's just a sensitive area.
01:18You know, the technician puts numbing cream on your eyebrows
01:21so that you really technically shouldn't feel a thing.
01:23But I am still nervous.
01:25Alright, I'm excited. We should just do it.
01:27Let's do it.
01:27Alright.
01:28First things first, Amelia smoothed on a layer of numbing cream.
01:33She's an angel sent from heaven above to fix eyebrows.
01:39She's been doing it for years, so Alyssa and I knew we were in really good hands.
01:43Blades aren't out yet, so I'm not that nervous.
01:45Right now, I know that there's some steps before we get there.
01:48We're creating shape, essentially.
01:50I'm filling in, I'm adding here and there.
01:52This is a really good shape.
01:54I think just because I'm so used to it being a little bit more of an angle.
02:00Then she brought out all of her inks and started matching the color to my eyebrows.
02:05And once I was happy with it,
02:06I think so too.
02:08She pulled out her microblading tool.
02:10Not gonna lie, it scared the out of me.

02:15The first feeling of the pain is like what I'm...
02:19I'm going to go super slow.
02:21Then I closed my eyes and Amelia started scraping teeny tiny brow hairs onto my skin.
02:26You alright?
02:27Yeah.
02:28It doesn't hurt.
02:37Yeah, it hurts a little more now, but still...
02:40I can do it.
02:41The first few strokes were admittedly mildly uncomfortable,
02:45but afterward it didn't hurt at all.
02:53You can kind of hear the needles like...
02:55Like scratching on your skin.
03:02That's like kind of...
03:03That's like a little bit scary.
03:04Scale of one being no eyebrows to ten being bushy eyebrows.
03:09Where were my natural eyebrows?
03:11I think yours about six, seven?
03:15Really?
03:16Mm-hmm.
03:17You have eyebrows.
03:18You have eyebrows.
03:18What is Alyssa then?
03:20So this process took about 45 minutes before she switched to a digital pen,
03:25which essentially is a tattoo gun with a really fine needle.
03:29See?
03:29You can't even see how it's moving, but it does move.
03:31Oh man, it's so sharp.
03:34It was kind of scary.
03:35The machine made a lot of noises,
03:37but it actually was less painful than the actual scraping.
03:41I don't feel it at all.
03:42It's kind of amazing.
03:43Isn't it?
03:50The most important thing, I believe, is if you create a restaurant not to make them too perfect.
03:57To kind of try to simulate Mother Nature, which she certainly is not.
04:01All right.
04:02It's good.
04:03Do you want to see it?
04:03Yes, I do want to see it.
04:05Oh, they look so natural.
04:07All these little tiny hairs.
04:09Super even and fresh and all filled in.
04:12I'm so excited to not have to fill my eyebrows in anymore.
04:16And that was it.
04:17I had built up all this anxiety for two years for an hour-long process that honestly was pretty painless.
04:24Once she was done, Amelia wiped off our eyebrows and instructed Alyssa and I not to get them wet for
04:28five days.
04:30I told you it wasn't going to be that bad.
04:31It was just how I remembered.
04:33Like, you know, you could hear the little scraping sound a bit.
04:40But the numbing cream really works wonders.
04:42So excited for them to heal a little bit too so they can see like in four weeks with the
04:46final effects.
04:47But even just, I don't know, one hour post.
04:50And how do you feel?
04:51Like, does it hurt at all?
04:52Mine's a little bit tender.
04:53The actual procedure shouldn't hurt at all.
04:55We're going to have to get creative with covering our eyebrows.
04:58Maybe wearing some goggles in the shower for the next five days.
05:02But four weeks later...
05:04They're going to look amazing.
05:07So I know for me that this has kind of changed my life.
05:11Me too!
05:12I honestly do my makeup in five minutes.
05:13Yeah.
05:14Now that I have these.
05:15Like, I just conceal anything, a little bronzer, a little mascara.
05:18Peace.
05:19So it all came together full circle.
05:21Aww, let's do it again sometime.
05:22Yeah, two years from now we'll make a date.
05:24So for those of you who don't want to spend the money, and I do not blame you, it is
05:28a lot of money.
05:29I have a few products here that I personally really, really love.
05:32The first of which is a brow pencil.
05:35Now I am a big fan of brow pencils, especially if you have super fine brow hairs like me.
05:39This one's from Benefit.
05:41It's called the Precisely My Brow Pencil.
05:44Secondly, I like to set my work.
05:46Usually I'll do it with a powder and then gel, but you can also get away with just doing gel.
05:51It is called the Maybelline Brow Precise, and I like it because it has little tiny fibers that you can
05:56put on your brow hairs and it kind of beefs them up a little.
05:59So, very good choice.
06:00Also at the drugstore, so it's affordable.
