00:00Hi, my name's Sophia and this is Mackenzie. We're the Veggie Patch Kids at the Dapto Community Farm.
00:05And this is how it started. We had not much room in our backyard to grow vegetables.
00:09So we came to the Dapto Community Farms to grow lots of vegetables.
00:13I don't even think I can name all of them.
00:16At the Veggie Patch after school, we come down and we weed all of our garden beds.
00:21We have six garden beds and then on a Friday afternoon we'll come down and we pick all of our
00:28vegetables
00:29and then we pack them up in packages and you can order a box online on our Facebook page.
00:35And then we get around 10 to 15 orders each week.
00:40And then on a Saturday we will come down here, set up a table, have all of our produce lined
00:46up on the tables
00:47and it's free for customers to walk in and pick everything they want and pay for as they leave.
00:55A couple of things I like about the Veggie Patch is after school it gets me out of the house
01:00in the nature and outside.
01:03I like the Veggie Patch because we have a nice community and we grow lots of healthy vegetables and they
01:12taste really good.
01:18Hello, how are you going? My name's Peter. I've been on the site resident of this site for eight months.
01:26Prior to that I was coming here, I had two plots, one in 17 and one in 18.
01:29And unfortunately the gardens got a bit out of hand and I had to get some more plots.
01:35So I had to give them away. So I've got a 38 metre plot and I have a seven, number
01:40seven.
01:41I've got a 20 metre plot over there. So roughly about 60 metres of gardens and it just, I still
01:47can't keep up with it.
01:48It's just unbelievable. Like the people here are just, it's just so calming.
01:53They love each other. They'll look after you. If you have any issues, no big deal.
01:59You know, nothing, nothing's a big drama. So, and I love it. I absolutely love it here.
02:06This is where the old irrigation was. And the reason with the, with all these marks is because there was
02:12too many leaks.
02:13And they had to dig it up and then try to find the leak, repair it. And because they did
02:19that, the whole, all the bed, all the community plots had no water until they fixed it.
02:25They could have had no water for two days. But now in the last few weeks, after much improvement and
02:32hard work by the committee, we've put in a new pipe system.
02:36This is a, this one's a 15 mil. The other one's 18 mil. I've decided because everybody's buying all these
02:43new hoses, I decided to try to recycle.
02:47So I did recycle, but a new hose put in for the chaos plot, number 21. And, um, it works
02:54perfect. Not a problem.
