00:00Two course records today, tied for the lowest round in major history, Lucas Herbert, Sam Burns, both shot 62. Shades
00:06of the Ricky Fowler, Xander Shoffley, double 62s at LACC in 2023.
00:12Following names, Smiley, are tied for eighth or better. John Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Scotty Scheffler, Robert McIntyre, Bryson DeChambeau, Sam
00:20Burns, Cam Young.
00:23Just give me a little bit of your highlight reel on why this Friday was so good, and of those
00:27guys, who do you like to kind of make a move on Saturday?
00:30Because even Scotty, 149th in the field today with just 45 feet of putts made, yet just four shots off
00:37the lead.
00:38A lot of guys have opportunities to kind of make a move.
00:40You said Scotty, is that who you just said?
00:42Scotty was 149th in the field today with just 45 feet of putts made.
00:47Guys, he had four under?
00:48Four under.
00:49Oh, wow. Gosh, yes, he's right there.
00:51I mean, dude, it was one of the best Fridays that I can remember.
00:55Even with the circus that happened at the very end of the – actually, it was kind of cherry on
00:59top of just an incredible day.
01:00Not that I'm cheering for Bryson to get a two-shot penalty by any means, but the crowds, man, were
01:07just phenomenal today.
01:09The songs, the cheering, it was like a little mini Ryder Cup that broke up out there with the cheers
01:15for Tommy and Tyrell,
01:16and then also Bryson being in the mix, Scotty out there.
01:20It was awesome, and the golf course was so awesome.
01:24It was fantastic out there.
01:28Now, I'll say that what I didn't love about how this golf course is starting to move is that I
01:37think it's trending towards –
01:40in certain situations, like, just hit driver.
01:44It's where we've kind of gotten there.
01:48That's what, like, you and I were talking about driver.
01:52There's a great stat.
01:53Like, it was, like, driver usage of the 28 holes where you could potentially hit driver.
01:57And if you look, like, Bryson tied for 13th in the field, pulling driver on 17 of 28 holes.
02:03That was a recipe for success.
02:04They got him near the top of the leaderboard, and so it's interesting.
02:07I think Tommy hit two drivers today is, like, what my count was for it.
02:14But so there's –
02:15He was, yeah, T-101 on the field.
02:17Ten drivers on 28 holes, Tommy.
02:20Yeah, and you can't really trust that thing, like, fully.
02:24You know, I'm not sure who's logging that information, but I had him for two today.
02:29Now, yesterday was a little bit different in the morning for him because there's a little bit less wind
02:34and that there's probably more opportunities for him to pick and choose, you know,
02:38keeping the ball to stop in the fairways.
02:41I just think that it's – this weekend is open for somebody that gets hot with a driver,
02:45that plays aggressively and into spots that, you know, whether it's in the fescue
02:50or finding a couple good angles.
02:53You know, the best example I can give you is on the 10th hole today.
02:58Tommy Fleetwood decided to hit a fairway medal off the tee.
03:01He had – oh, gosh.
03:04He had a six iron into the green.
03:06It was 180 yards, but it was playing, like, 195.
03:10But he'd hit the fairway.
03:11He, you know, kept it out of the pot bunkers, eliminated all of them off the tee.
03:14It's a doll egg left hole.
03:16You haven't watched much of the coverage.
03:17And Jon Rahm decided he was going to try to cut the corner and hit driver off the tee.
03:24And Jon Rahm, I went up to his golf ball, and it was sitting, like, below his feet
03:29but down in some fescue.
03:31And typically I would have said, man, that lie is not that great.
03:33Like, that's one that he might be able to, like, scrape onto the front of the green.
03:38And so I'll tell you what happens with the shot.
03:40So Tommy kind of pulls a six iron, hits it to, like, 50 feet.
03:45And there's 81 yards in between Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm.
03:4981 yards into a par four.
03:51Wow.
03:51That's how, like, the difference in, like, what Jon Rahm cut off of this hole
03:54versus what Tommy chose to do.
03:56So Tommy hits it to 50 feet, and then Jon Rahm gets down there,
03:59and he just flips this 77-yard wedge.
04:02It just comes and lands him like a butterfly, lands, you know, 15 feet short
04:06of where he ended up and just kind of trundled out to a back hole location,
04:11walks in a 10-footer for birdie.
04:12And it was just, it was like that aha moment of watching what Jon Rahm did
04:19on the ninth hole, too, which Rory McIlroy's driven that green both days
04:24400-something yards.
04:25The driving in today was so good.
04:28Rahm blocks it well to the right and ends up in some trampled area,
04:32and he's 65 yards from the green.
04:35And even off of hard pan was able to hit it to 15 feet because it was soft enough.
04:40The greens are soft enough to stop.
04:41So it's kind of, it's who can get a hot driver on the weekend
04:47because I think you're going to need some birdies and some firepower
04:49to move up this board.
04:51Seeing that I think it was like a record number of rounds below 70 today,
04:55I don't think the golf course is what it is right now.
04:58I don't think the greens are going to just drastically get firmer and firmer
05:01to where, you know, the players that are playing more conservatively
05:05are going to be rewarded in this.
05:07I think you're going to have to take some chances.
