00:00There's been thought that the Padres would say to teams,
00:04if you want Mason Miller, you have to take Xander Bogarts.
00:09Seven years remaining on that contract, he's already 33 and bad.
00:15And I know this is more of a question for ownership's willingness to spend,
00:19especially in a new world where there could very well be a salary cap,
00:22because I guess it's easy for Sean Morash to say,
00:24sure, I'll take him, who cares, I'm giving him plus prospects.
00:27But would you be willing, knowing the hamstring nature of a contract like that,
00:32to take back Bogarts just to get your hands on three more years of control of Mason Miller?
00:38I'd like to say yes, but if we don't know the rules of a potential,
00:42whatever they're going to figure out here in the CBA, and that screws the Yankees,
00:45how could you commit to that?
00:46What's he making a year?
00:4725.
00:48Yeah.
00:49Manny Machado's hitting 202.
00:50He's got 22 bombs, but he's making 39.
00:53Yeah.
00:53But that's the issue with the CBA thing.
00:55Whether you think there's going to be a cap or not,
00:57even if we get to the point that there's some kind of figure for that,
01:00you don't know, like, is anything grandfathered in going forward?
01:03Like, you just don't know the rules.
01:05Yeah.
01:06And Tiki's right about Machado's deal being even worse,
01:08because next year he's going to make $39 million until 2033.
01:12I mean, both of those guys.
01:14When he's 40.
01:14When he's 40.
01:15I think the difference between Manny and Bogarts is I can see Manny Machado bouncing back
01:19and having some big years.
01:20Yeah, he's still getting good contact on the ball.
01:22He's had 22 home runs this year.
01:24Exactly.
01:24He's just not hitting for average at all.
01:26And he's not that far removed.
01:27He doesn't feel as far removed from being a really good player as Bogarts is.
01:32But take your pick.
01:33Like, they're both god-awful contracts.
01:35Would the Padres use one or both to say,
01:39that's how we're going to trade Mason Miller,
01:40which is a fan base of the Padres I'd be fuming at.
01:43But we've seen it before.
01:45In fact, do you guys remember the example?
01:47Because I'd say it worked out.
01:48Do you remember the Mets doing it?
01:50They took back Robbie Cano to get Edwin Diaz.
01:54That's right.
01:55Now, they also gave up prospects in that deal,
01:57including Jared Kelnick, even though it didn't work out.
01:59Right.
01:59But yeah, a lot of that was their willingness to take Cano.
02:03And the Mariners said, take Edwin Diaz.
