The Northern Territory was in the spotlight today as the national inquiry into racism moved to Alice Springs. Set up in the wake of the alleged terror attack at an Invasion Day rally in Perth, it heard violence against Indigenous people is often ignored by the wider community.

01:16that is faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in this country.

01:22Amid talk of revisiting a mothballed promise.
01:26People have pointed to truth-telling as a means to addressing racism in this country.
01:32We need to talk to each other. We are not hiding things away.
01:37The inquiry is due to report back to the parliament in September.
01:41We need to take a thousand dollars and enjoy the fireside ground.
