A group of prominent Tasmanian politicians are facing tough decisions, as electorate boundary changes are likely to leave them living outside the seats they were elected to represent. The biggest change could come in Lyons, where the addition of Glenorchy could sure up the seat for Labor at a federal level.

00:02The streets of Glenorchy are set for a shift, moving out of Clarke and into the central electorate of Lyons.

00:16The Australian Electoral Commission is moving Tasmania's electoral boundaries.
00:20The biggest impact is on Lyons, is that there's a solid core Labor vote in Glenorchy.
00:25That could shore up the federal seat of Lyons for Labor, says the ABC's former Chief Elections Analyst, Anthony Green.
00:33Clarke, safely held by Independent Andrew Wilkie, now includes the Huon Valley and entirety of Kingbra.
00:39It also, I think, long-term changes the seat because Glenorchy was an area where the Greens always polled poorly.
00:45And now it's no longer in Clarke.
00:47These new boundaries are likely to be adopted by the state electorates too,
00:51starting from whenever the next federal election is held.
00:55It could create a logjam in Clarke.
00:57At least ten state MPs either hold a seat in Clarke
01:01or live in the area to be covered by the future electorate.
01:06Christy Johnston will seek re-election in Clarke.
01:09Greens leader Rosalie Woodruff lives in a part of Franklin set to become Clarke.
