00:00The National Assembly of Venezuela expressed solidarity with the people affected by the
00:04twin earthquakes that hit the country on June 24.
00:06Our correspondent Michelle Ramirez in Caracas has the details.
00:11The Venezuelan parliament approved a resolution expressing solidarity with the victims of
00:16the twin earthquakes in a first reading.
00:17The resolution conveys the parliament's support and condolences to the families of those who
00:22lost their lives and to all citizens affected by the earthquakes.
00:30These are times to extend a helping hand.
00:37We must give everything we have as human beings.
00:47We must show all of our humanity.
00:53We must care for our brothers and sisters who have lost their belongings and experienced
00:57the heartbreak of seeing their homes collapse.
01:05Lawmakers recognized the immediate volunteer response of citizens, universities, companies
01:10and non-governmental organizations, which set up collection centers and helped save lives
01:14in the hours after the disaster struck.
01:19Venezuelans gave everything in response to a profound sense of solidarity.
01:24Thousands of volunteers, religious organizations, professional associations, universities, private companies
01:31and non-governmental organizations immediately stepped forward to support the country.
01:37Their efforts were essential in helping save lives during the first hours of the emergency.
01:44The resolution endorses the Venezuelan government's emergency response and contingency plans
01:49and urges international organizations to release the country's frozen assets
01:53and financial resources held abroad.
02:00The resolution emphasizes what I believe is a key issue, sanctions.
02:07What more must happen in Venezuela before these illegal sanctions suffocating the country are lifted?
02:17For God's sake, what more needs to happen?
02:22These unilateral course of measures are illegal and immoral, especially in the current circumstances.
02:31During the session, lawmakers also approved a partial reform of the law against real estate fraud,
02:37which aims to promote the construction of new housing adapted to current needs.
02:43Our main objective is to promote the construction of new housing that meets today's needs.
02:54The state has significant capacity through the Great Housing Mission Venezuela.
02:59But during this time of essential unity and solidarity, we need everyone's participation.
03:06This reform aims to provide better conditions, greater legal certainty and improved financing,
03:13so that the private sector can begin an ambitious and accelerated process of constructing homes.
03:23The rental law was also on the agenda during the regular session.
03:28The Special Housing Rental Regime Law was approved to strengthen access to housing through the rental market
03:33and the construction of new residences.
