00:10Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez inspected Junquito Peres in Caracas to assess
00:15the progress of the Venezuela Rises initiative following the June 24 earthquakes. Trade tensions
00:25between the United States and Brazil are escalating rapidly after Washington announced a new 25
00:29percent tariffs on Brazilian imports. A sixth round of US mediating negotiations between Lebanese
00:38and Israeli officials concluded in Italy with no timetable for a Zionist withdrawn from occupied
00:44Lebanese territories. Hello, welcome to From the South. I am Lorena Fong from the Telesur Studios
00:54in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the news, stay with us. The government of Venezuela released an updated
01:19official report detailing the figures on the damage, losses and measures taken after the earthquake
01:24that struck on June 24. According to the official report released on July 15, 2026, the death toll
01:30has risen to 4,829, while the number of injured remains at 16,740. Authorities also reported that
01:386,462 people have been rescued. The report indicates that 128,324 families have received assistance and
01:4720,857 people are in temporary camps, while 17,907 families have lost their homes. In addition,
01:57956 buildings have been damaged and 190 have collapsed. The religious efforts have included the
02:02distribution of 10,063 tons of food and 24,232,965 liters of water, while 34,872 people have received
02:16medical
02:16treatment. A total of 2,408 international rescue workers are assisting the country, alongside 30,989
02:24deployed personnel and 31,315 volunteers. Finally, authorities also reported that the establishment
02:32of 106 temporary camps and the recording of 1,284 aftershocks.
02:45The Venezuelan acting president, Elsie Rodriguez, inspected El Junquito Parish in Caracas to assess
02:50the progress of the Venezuela Rises initiative created to address the severe damage caused by
02:55June 24 earthquakes. The acting president visited all the affected areas with senior government
03:00officials. More than 1,200 people have been relocated to temporary camps due to the damage. Intensive
03:06clean-up operations and infrastructure rehabilitation are underway in the central district of the El
03:11Junquito tourist area. Additionally, a monitoring system that uses drones to conduct topographic
03:18surveys and monitor buildings in real time has been deployed. The state's public policy aims to
03:24physically restore the affected areas and provide stable housing for displaced families, offering sustained
03:30technical and humanitarian assistance across all impacted territories.
03:40We have just toured the parish of El Junquito, which was also heavily affected by the twin earthquakes.
03:47Without a doubt, the businesses and the economic activity in this parish were impacted.
03:54What we have discussed with the community is, first and foremost, establishing financial
03:59assistance for businesses so they can recover their economic activity.
04:06Those affected by the double earthquake in Venezuela are being assisted by specialists at the various
04:11temporary camps set out by the government. Today, we visit one of them to see firsthand how the sheltered
04:17families are living from Caracas. Our correspondent Roberto Hugo Presa reports.
04:25They are trying to put the shocking images of the July 24 earthquakes behind them. These are children who,
04:32along with their parents, are staying in one of the 106 temporary camps supported by the government of
04:38Acting President Delcy Rodriguez. The Gervasio Artiga School in Caracas was converted for this humanitarian effort.
04:47Today, it is the responsibility of a Venezuelan state institution such as Treasure Bank,
04:54which has a primary and fundamental objective to ensure that all the families sheltered here
05:00who were directly affected by the June 24 earthquake have optimal conditions for as long as they remain here.
05:09They should have a place to sleep, be able to eat with dignity, and have the minimum necessary conditions.
05:16This camp has a capacity for 400 people. There are currently 121 families here, including adults, children, teenagers, and seniors.
05:28We have laundry facilities here. We provide quality medical care for everyone who is, let's say, staying here.
05:36We have recreational and educational spaces for children and adolescents, and we also provide other services.
05:43We've even made sure to provide proper nutrition. They have comfortable dormitories, recreational areas,
05:50hygienic showers, medical care, and balanced meals. Many patients arrived with all kinds of injuries,
05:58but also with specific health issues, acute illnesses, respiratory conditions, viral infections of all kinds, and chronic conditions.
06:10In collaboration with the National Institute of Nutrition, all meals meet caloric requirements and are 100 percent nutritionally balanced.
06:18Even though these families lost their homes and belongings, they thank God for being alive
06:24and appreciate the care they receive. They say the government did not forget them during these difficult times.
06:31I feel at ease. I have access to all the services I need.
06:36Whatever I need, I ask for it, and they give it to me in every way. And I'm very grateful,
06:42especially very grateful.
06:44Very grateful because they've helped us and protected us, which is what matters most.
06:49There are 10 of us in my family.
06:51Are they all here?
06:52We're all here. All 10 of us. My wife, my children, and my 12-month-old grandson, who's sleeping over
06:58there.
07:02An entrepreneurship space has been set up to help revive the family economy. And even World Cup fever has its
07:09place here.
07:10This is undoubtedly a model temporary camp. And just like this one, both the government and the entire team
07:16collaborating on these programs hope that the rest of the temporary camps will operate in this way.
07:23Roberto Hugo Perez, reporting for Telesur, Caracas, Venezuela.
07:29Venezuela's Ministry of Habitat and Housing is advancing preparations and construction
07:34of a temporary camp in Ciudad Caribe to accommodate 100 families.
07:39The Bolivarian government promoted the initiative to create safe spaces for residents
07:43who have suffered the total or partial loss of their homes following the twin earthquakes on June 24,
07:49that left numerous families affected in the area. The Ministry continues to work actively in Ciudad
07:54Caribe with its team of specialists to ensure these families have temporary shelter.
07:59This reforms the Venezuelan state's commitment to providing vulnerable communities
08:04with timely and supportive assistance during emergencies.
08:13The Jose Gervas Certea's temporary camp in Caracas, Venezuela's is providing comprehensive
08:18assistance to families affected by the June 24 earthquakes. The national government has established
08:23this facility to ensure the well-being of those affected by the disaster, prioritizing assistance that
08:29meets all the sentient human needs. This camp is regarded as a model for its organization,
08:33and the quality of its services, reflecting the Venezuelan state's commitment to its people.
08:39Furthermore, the assistance goes beyond the material support, including social and community service,
08:44to make sure that every person receives dignified care while the community recovers from the emergency.

09:28Welcome back from the South. We now continue with your information. The Mexican president,
09:31Claudia Sheinbaum, has welcomed her Panamanian counterpart José Raúl Molino to the National Palace in Mexico City
09:37to strengthen regional integration and bilateral cooperation. The highest level meeting focused on
09:42strategic areas including trade, regional security, and agricultural development. During the encounter,
09:48President Sheinbaum explicitly reaffirmed Mexico's support for the neutrality protocol of the Panama Canal.
09:54In response, President Molino expressed his gratitude for the backing and called on other Latin American
09:59nations to endorse the canal's mutual status to guarantee independent global trade.
10:10The meeting we are holding today will allow us to deepen and reinvigorate our cooperation in
10:15strategic areas such as trade, investment, connectivity, infrastructure, security, the fight against
10:23crime, mobility, tourism, culture, education, and innovation. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to further
10:33strengthening the ties between Panama and Mexico by advancing joint projects that benefit both nations
10:39and their peoples. Trade tensions between the United States and Brazil are escalating rapidly after
10:47Washington announced a new 25% tariffs on Brazilian exports. The tax set to take effect on July 22nd targets
10:55industrial goods. Throughout, key exports like beef and coffee are exempt. United States Trade Representative
11:02Jameson Greer stated the measures addressed on fair trade barriers pointing to digital commerce restrictions on
11:09Brazil's state electronic payment system peaks. President Senatio Lula Silva fiercely rejected the move
11:15calling it unilateral and illegitimate. Brasilia highlighted that the US has enjoyed $424 billion trade surplus with
11:24Brazil over the last 15 years. In response, Brazil's government is immediately activating its reciprocity law to
11:32implement defensive tariffs and will take the dispute to the World Trade Organization.
11:57As hostilities escalate in the Middle East, Iran warns of wide regulatory regional strikes if the United States targets its
12:05infrastructure.
12:05As hostilities escalate in the Middle East, Iran warns of wide regulatory regional strikes if the United States targets its
12:05infrastructure.
12:05On behalf of Iran's Qatam, Alan Villa Central Headquarters Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zulfaghari said that the Iranian forces could
12:14destroy infrastructure across the region if the United States targets the Islamic Republic's critical infrastructure.
12:21Zulfaghari further stated that the Persian nation will not allow the United States to intervene in the Strait of Hormuz,
12:27saying that the issue is an unbreakable red line.
12:30This comes after US President Donald Trump threatened the target Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if Tehran does
12:37not meet US demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
12:46The sixth round of US mediated negotiations between Lebanese and Israeli officials concluded in Italy with no timetable for a
12:55Zionist withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories.
12:58Ambassador-level talks were held at the United States. Ambassador-level talks were held at the United States Assembly in
13:01Rome on Tuesday and Wednesday, reaching agreement on a proposed pilot zone process, but stopping short of any binding timetable
13:09for an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
13:11Talks will now reportedly move into an expanded technical phase governing all three provisions for the trilateral framework signed June
13:1926, namely disarmament of armed groups, deployment of Lebanese army units in the south, and gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied
13:28Lebanese territory.
13:28However, the Zionist government has consistently postponed any withdrawal from its territory from Lebanon and the resistance movement. Hezbollah continues
13:38its opposition to the negotiations.
13:47Outgoing British Prime Minister Kirill Starmer has arrived in Kiev for one final highly theatrical photo of before he is
13:55forced to hand over power next week.
13:57Rather than pursuing diplomatical pathways to peace, the outgoing leader used his farewell tour to lock the British public into
14:05a permanent cycle of proxy warfare in an attempt of cementing what he considered his personal legacy.
14:13Starmer is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a trip that, as critics argues, serves to reassure
14:22international arms contractual.
14:24This comes following a controversial deal tied in the UK to a massive £78 billion loan designed to channel public
14:31funds directly to British defence companies.
14:33The visit is expected to reassure President Zelensky that Starmer's foreign policy will remain unwavering when his successor Andy Bernhardt
14:43officially takes office.

15:27Welcome back to From the South. We're going now to Canada where raging wildfires in Northern Ortario have severely disrupted
15:33regional rail operations, trapping cargo trains.
15:35Carrying hazardous material. Provincial police confirmed that three freed trains carrying highly combustible and flammable materials were forced to halt
15:45near Armstrong.
15:46Dramatic footage shared online shows a real crew entirely surrounded by towering flames. Officials confirmed those workers have since been
15:55evacuated safely.
15:56The critical blockade occurred just 20 miles outside of town.
16:02Crews are battling over 100 active wildfires across Canada with strong winds pushing dense hazardous plums of smoke's southeast toward
16:11populated areas.
16:13Provincial rail operators are working closely with emergency services to secure the volatile cargo as containment efforts continue around the
16:23clock.
16:31The catastrophic wildfires in France's historic Fontainebleu Forest are finally under control but not before destroying over 2,000 hectares.
16:39The twin blazes destroyed to 10% of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve marking one of Northern France's worst ecological disaster
16:47in two decades.
16:48Hundreds of firefighters are still cooling smouldering hot spots across a massive 23-kilometer perimeter.
16:55Meanwhile, a sweeping arson investigation has led to the arrest of 59 suspects.
16:59Shockingly, French authorities confirmed that detainees include a volunteer firefighter who has confessed to starting one of the main fire
17:07fronts.
17:08While evacuated residents have returned home and weather conditions are improving,
17:13emergency crews remain on high alert section by section to prevent any sudden re-ignition.
17:28In Spain, firefighters continue to battle a rapidly spreading forest fire in the autonomous community of Aragon.
17:34Despite the extreme heat and intensity of the flames, firefighting teams are heading to the affected area to fight the
17:41fire.
17:41In light of the rapid spread, the government of Aragon ordered the preventive evacuation of the towns of Ores, Luece
17:48y Asin en Malpica de Arba,
17:50sending emergency alerts to residents' mobile devices to urge them to follow official guidelines.
17:55The combination of wooded and mountainous terrain with high temperatures and strong winds has considerably hindered firefighting efforts.
18:12France's lower chamber has voted to legalize assisted dying for adults suffering from incurable conditions,
18:19moving the country closer to a landmark social reform.
18:23Lawmakers backed the highly anticipated bill in a tied 291 to 241 votes.
18:29The controversial legislation permits medical assistance in dying strictly for terminal patients enduring untreatable suffering.
18:38Before officially becoming law, the bill requires final approval from France's highest constitutional authority.
18:44If cleared, France will join a small group of nations that have legalized the practice.
18:50Constitutional authorities are expected to review the landmark legislation in the coming weeks
18:56to determine its compliance with the French Constitution.
19:07French Prime Minister Sébastien Le Cornou has arrived in Rabat for a high-level summit with Moroccan counterpart,
19:13Aziz Akanouche, for a visit aimed at further strengthening ties between France and Morocco.
19:19Leading a strategic delegation of 12 ministers, Le Cornou's first official foreign trip since taking office
19:24aims to consolidate what both nations call an enhanced exceptional partnership.
19:29The upcoming summit will focus on economic defence and migration agreements
19:34building on France's recent recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
19:39The visit could pave the way for a possible visit by King Mohamed VI to Paris.
20:05Anger and bitter disappointment spilled onto the streets of London last night after England's devastating World Cup semi-final exit.
20:13Angry supporters clashed with police in London's streets, attempting to attack an individual wearing an Argentina jersey.
20:21Riot Squad officers intervened forming a human barricade around the police transport van,
20:26while furious fans blocked the vehicle chanting insults at Argentine captain Lionel Messi.
20:32The localized violence erupted after England's dream was crushed in Atlanta.
20:37At least one person was injured in the London chaos.
20:40As the defending champions advanced to face Spain in Sunday's grand finale,
20:46England is left to a process of a fourth consecutive semi-final failure,
20:50as their historic 60-year wait for a major title continues.
20:59The Argentine players celebrated the World Cup victory over England by reforming Argentine sovereignty in the Malvinas,
21:07risking a possible fine by FIFA organizers.
21:10Argentine players held up a political banner declaring the Malvinas are Argentinian
21:14after a 2-1 World Cup semi-final victory over England.
21:18However, the banner held up by Lissandra Martinez and Giovanni Lo Celso goes against FIFA's stadium code of conduct,
21:25which bans banners, flags, flyers, apparel and other paraphernalia that are of a political nature.
21:35And on the other hand, the powerful statement has been largely welcomed by Argentinians
21:40that have been demanding the return of the islands since Britain took control of them in 1833
21:46throughout an illegal colonial act.
21:48Moreover, the two countries fought over the Malvinas in 1982 in a short conflict won by Britain's military.
21:55Since then, the question of the sovereignty of the Malvinas has been a sore spot in relations between the two
22:01nations.
22:08And like this, we have gone to the end of this news brief.
