00:01The Netflix documentary Quarterbacks came out, which we'll have more on that coming
00:06up here in a little bit.
00:07However, Joe Flacco, I didn't see this, but I saw most of episode one, but I don't remember
00:12seeing this.
00:13So I apologize.
00:15Maybe I didn't see as much episode one as I thought I did.
00:17Joe Flacco, Shador Sanders, Brown's camp, hit it.
00:22You notice Shador don't have just like a clear visor.
00:24He's got the mirror, clear mirror.
00:25You know, when you're growing up, they're like, take your f***ing visor.
00:28Who do you think you are?
00:29Yeah, but if you wear a visor, you think it's for look.
00:32You think you look sweet.
00:35It's that era.
00:37Like, I don't want my kids to wear visors either.
00:39They all want visors.
00:40I'm like, guys, they're not even like, they're just annoying.
00:43They're going to fog up.
00:44Yeah, they are.
00:45They look sweet.
00:46And then when you take them off, you can breathe so much better.
00:48They f***ing suck, dude.
00:50But it looks sweet.
00:51It's all about look.
00:52When I was a kid, I wanted a visor too.
00:54And then I'm like, the visors suck.
00:57They don't make any sense.
00:57You're going to let your kids wear a visor?
00:58I would let them wear it.
00:59But I would tell them, like, you're a quarterback, bro.
01:01You're f***ing wearing a visor.
01:02You look like a f***ing idiot.
01:04If you're a quarterback and you're trying to look, you can tell you're trying to look
01:08too sweet, like, then...
01:09But I like my mirror.
01:10I get it.
01:11I get it.
01:12Let's get a win and then I'll put a, maybe I'll put a visor on.
01:16I disagree with Joe.
01:18Andy Katzenmoyer was extremely concerned with eye safety.
01:22He wasn't a quarterback.
01:24Very true.
01:25Audio courtesy at Netflix.
01:26I'm actually concerned.
01:27Of all the things, because people are like, Ken, how could you let your son play such a barbaric
01:31sport?
01:31And I'm like, guys, it's cool.
01:32I have him wear a clear visor because I'm so weird about my eyes.
01:35And so I'm afraid he's going to get poked in the eye and they don't have any of the
01:38crossbar anymore.
01:38So I go, nope, he's got to have a visor.
01:40Orlando Brown probably wishes he would have had a visor.
01:42Of all the things...
01:43God rest his soul, you animal.
01:45Okay.
01:46I mean, it's actually true.
01:46I mean, it didn't end his career?
01:48No.
01:48I mean, he came back.
01:49Oh, he did?
01:49He did come back.
01:51But it was a while.
01:54I can't...
01:54Take the outside rush.
01:55I can't believe Jeff Triplett.
01:57My God.
01:57Anyway.
01:58Those flags pack quite a wallop.
02:00So I, uh...
02:02Well, you just got one out for everything today, don't you?
02:05All right.
02:07I heard...
02:08I didn't hear that until just now.
02:09Joe Flacco.
02:10Now, you are much more in tune with Shador Sanders fans than I am.
02:15Yes.
02:15Oh, yeah.
02:16There is...
02:17You are either public enemy number one or number two, depending on the day of the week.
02:21And it's made you very close with his fan base.
02:25And they were upset with Joe Flacco for making these jokes about the visor?
02:29Uh, they thought it was kind of a jerkish...
02:34They use a different term.
02:34But a jerkish move for him to criticize Shador's style and or...
02:42I don't even know.
02:42Is it...
02:43Does Shador do it for style?
02:44Or does he do it for...
02:46To protect...
02:47Did he wear a...
02:48He had a visor a couple times in college, didn't he?
02:51I don't know if he had a mirrored or cleared visor or anything like that.
02:54I'm not sure.
02:55I remember Greg Fry wore a visor years and years and years ago at Ohio State.
03:00Jim McMahon had a visor years ago.
03:03I think a couple of guys did it for, like, a little bit here and there back in the early
03:06days of the visors.
03:07You really don't see him a lot.
03:09Uh, but Joe Flacco's getting ripped for saying, uh, about Shador?
03:13Yeah.
03:13They just...
03:14They thought...
03:15Even though I thought he was just busting stones, I thought that was just...
03:17Sounded like he was.
03:18But busting stones and then also...
03:20Was Shador laughing during the clip?
03:21Yeah.
03:22He'd like it.
03:22I thought he took it all in stride.
03:24Um, I took that as the veteran also, yes, busting stones, but also trying to impart a
03:32little bit of wisdom on a young kid.
03:35And he was doing it by also throwing his own kids under the bus.
03:38Like, my kids also want to wear the visor.
03:40So I wonder if the Shador fans thought, oh, you are putting Shador in a box.
03:47Like, hey, you're the kid.
03:49Like, almost making him seem like he's not on his level, which I don't think he was doing
03:54that at all.
03:55I think he was just saying, hey, it's your quarterback.
03:57Don't wear visors.
03:59But doing it in the nicest possible way.
04:03All right.
04:03So, really, I just thought it was ball busting.
04:05Yeah.
04:06In so many ways.
04:07Okay.
04:08Because, I mean, camps are long.
04:09Yeah.
04:10You got to have a sense of humor and joke with each other.
04:12Almost a year ago.
04:14Yeah.
04:14Again, I didn't see it.
04:15You said Shador was very good-natured about him as well.
04:18He had a smile on his face.
04:19All right.
04:20Well, I mean, people are going to get worked up and upset about everything.
04:22I couldn't see his eyes because he had the visor on.
04:24Well, that's outstanding by you.
04:26There was something else going on, though, with the quarterbacks here.
04:29And Joe Flacco is no longer a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
04:31It doesn't seem like he ever will be again.
04:33And we wish Joe all the success in the world in the future here, unless he's playing against
04:36the Browns.
04:37However, Albert Breer yesterday was on afternoon drive.
04:40And, you know, they were talking about quarterbacks here, and there is a discussion to have about
04:44these two QBs.
04:45Not about who's better, because I told you earlier this week, no one's convincing anybody
04:50who's better when it's July 14th, now 15th, of anything.
04:54They're just going to have to go out there and play the game and practice, and we'll see
04:58who ends up being the winner out of all this.
04:59But there seems to be where they were having two separate passing camps between the two
05:05quarterbacks.
05:06Aaron Rodgers had a picture of him and Mason Rudolph and a bunch of other ones.
05:11Will Howard was left out.
05:12They made a big deal about it in Pittsburgh.
05:14Here, we have Shador Sanders and Deshaun Watson having different camps at different times with
05:20different wide receivers and things and such.
05:22And Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback was asked about that yesterday afternoon.
05:26Here's Albert's answer.
05:28If you have two quarterbacks with competing camps, and the receivers and the running backs
05:34and the tight ends have to pick which to go to, you've got bigger problems than scheduling.
05:40Like, if that's allowed to happen, and you've got drama over that, that's probably not great.
05:49You know, so I think, like, in a case like this, if one quarterback is going to put it together,
05:58then you would hope that he would let the other quarterbacks know what the plan was
06:03and invite them to be part of it.
06:05And I think generally it would be the guy who's the most veteran guy.
06:09The presumed starter, obviously, would be the preference.
06:12And when there isn't one, I would think it would be the older guy.
06:16I could understand that.
06:18I don't see it being the problem the way that a lot of others.
06:22I understand where Albert Breer's coming from here.
06:26This is a very odd quarterback, quote-unquote, controversy.
06:30Because I don't think that they see each other as real big cutthroat competition.
06:35I think the people around them might.
06:38But I don't think that they see each other that way.
06:40They were teammates, because they were teammates last year.
06:42Yeah, why do you think that is, if, like, especially because you'd think the stakes are pretty high
06:47for this quarterback competition.
06:48If it's Deshaun Watson and he can't win this against the player who, you know,
06:54really struggled last year as a fifth-round pick, that's it for Watson.
06:58And if Shador, in turn, can't win this, now where is he getting the opportunity?
07:03Great question.
07:03I'm not trying to rationalize something that's uncomfortable.
07:06It is an uncomfortable thing.
07:07I mean, you've got two guys.
07:08One guy is fighting for his NFL life, but he has $230 million in the bank.
07:13The other guy is fighting for his NFL life, but he's obviously a major star.
07:17And if he plays football or if he doesn't play football, I think he's going to be in media
07:22some way, somehow.
07:23Okay?
07:24That being put out there, I think it's the people around them.
07:26I think it's the fans that make a big deal about this.
07:28I don't think that they make a big deal about it because, again, we saw the articles.
07:32I mean, Mary Kay wrote it.
07:33Everybody wrote it that they were on friendly terms, teammates, even where Deshaun Watson
07:39was helping Shador Sanders with playbooks and things like that and understanding last
07:44year.
07:44I don't think they see each other the way that the fans see each other when it comes
07:48to Deshaun Watson versus Shador Sanders.
07:50I want Shador, obviously, to play this year.
07:53I don't want to see Deshaun Watson play for the Cleveland Browns again.
07:57He reminds me of bad things.
07:59And what could have been for this football team?
08:03It tends to, because I'm a loud mouth with a microphone in front of me, it tends to make
08:08it an adversarial thing.
08:09And I still have to remember, I know what I saw last year.
08:13I know what I read last year.
08:14And even though it's a competition, I don't think they see each other that way.
08:19So this is just a very weird thing where fan bases and even inner circles might be going
08:25after each other.
08:26But I don't think the two quarterbacks are.
08:27So if you're Todd Munkin, what do you want to see from your quarterbacks?
08:31Do you want to see two guys that win at all costs, do whatever it takes, show that you're
08:38the alpha, that you don't see competition in that room because you're the guy?
08:43No, because you have to be a leader, you have to be a teammate.
08:44Or do you?
08:45But that's what I'm saying.
08:46Like, could you see, in totally different situations, but like Tom Brady, could you ever
08:51see him be in anything but cutthroat?
08:54I cannot.
08:55I can.
08:56And I think he was that way.
08:57If he thought his job was in jeopardy.
08:59Not at the end.
09:00Can I tell you a difference when we come back?
09:02Okay.
09:02Do you think that this should be a cutthroat competition or should they be together on
09:05this?
09:06Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders.
09:08I don't think that it should be cutthroat.
09:10And you asked me between the two guys, should it be a cutthroat competition?
09:13Because yeah, I asked you, what do you think Todd Munkin prefers from his quarterbacks?
09:18Does he want them to be nice and helpful?
09:22Or does he want them, when they come out and they're trying to name a starting quarterback
09:27this year, does he want them to be, you know, not mortal enemies?
09:32I think it's a very tough thing to ask because you want everybody to compete every single
09:38rep, every single day.
09:39No, you don't want anybody to feel like they're safe unless they're like Tom Brady, how you
09:43brought it up.
09:44Right.
09:46But I know it's probably not like that with these guys.
09:49Like I'd be surprised if we had some Mary Kay expose later on in the year where these
09:54two were at each other's throats throughout the, I'm like, what?
09:58Not according to what I read last year.
10:00I can only go based on what I've read and what I've seen.
10:03I've seen them be certainly cordial with each other and get along.
10:07I do think that there are certain camps around the players who have, I'm willing to say, have
10:13tried to plant things and how people may feel.
10:17I will say that.
10:18I think that it's much more cutthroat between their fans and their hangers on than between
10:23the two players.
10:24Now you asked me, do you think Tom Brady would do something like this?
10:28Tom Brady is a vicious competitor.
10:32But I also am reminded of, I don't know if he was like that at the beginning of his career
10:37when he was trying to make his way up.
10:38I think he had a lot of confidence in himself, but you also have to do it the right way.
10:41And he clearly did it the right way.
10:43You have to be a supportive teammate.
10:45You have to be able to see that throughout everything.
10:47You can't just be a jerk because if you're willing to cast off a teammate right to the
10:52side and take over your team, yeah, I think that there's a moment where whoever wins this
10:56job should take a moment for themselves.
10:59Either Deshaun Watson should say to himself, I'm back.
11:02Or Shador Sanders can look at himself and go, now we take off and now I'm the guy.
11:09They can do that privately.
11:11But you know, publicly and in the locker room, you got to remain supportive because we haven't
11:16even started this season yet and neither of you guys are out of the woods for your career.
11:20Just because you're named the start of the Browns doesn't mean that it's all going to
11:23be sunshine and roses after this.
11:25So they're going to have to be respectful of each other.
11:28They're going to have to be complimentary of each other.
11:30Tom Brady was at a different point of his career.
11:32Brett Favre was at a different point of his career.
11:34You know, they're holding on to something and it's hard to let that go.
11:37And that's why I go back to that quarterback episode because Joe Flacco talks about that
11:42in the quarterback episode, episode one, and how awkward it was when they took Lamar Jackson.
11:48And Joe's like, yeah, I would have liked to play 20 years in Baltimore, but the writing
11:52was on the wall right there when they took Lamar Jackson.
11:54Like, he's like, I can't be stupid about this.
11:56And for Deshaun Watson, Deshaun Watson can't be stupid about it.
12:00They're going to have to remain complimentary of each other because facts are, especially if
12:04Deshaun Watson ends up getting the starting job week one, when do you, when do you, when
12:08do you really expect to see Shador Sanders by October?
12:13Yeah.
12:13Oh yeah.
12:13Okay.
12:14So you're only making things worse for yourself.
12:17You gotta, you gotta be able to get guys to follow you and lead.
12:21And that includes your backups.
12:24And that would include Shador, but you can't turn into this jerk and then go out there and
12:31suck up the room because then no one's going to pay attention to you because clearly you
12:34were in it for yourself.
12:36Well, it's, I don't think they're like that with each other.
12:37Yeah.
12:38It's, it's interesting because, you know, when we have defined roles, which we don't
12:42have on this team with the quarterbacks, when you have defined roles, you know what the
12:46starting quarterback is and then what the expectation is for a backup.
12:50It, it leads people to say things.
12:54I know you don't like this at all.
12:55Uh, and I've agreed with you, believe it or not that, you know, Oh, Shador couldn't possibly
13:00be a backup.
13:01He's too popular.
13:03That's too much for a head coach.
13:04I've been like, I think Shador has been his fan base is a different story, but Shador seems
13:09like he would be nothing but helpful.
13:11Some get it confused.
13:12I don't think that it's when they say that and they just want him cut.
13:16I go, no.
13:17What?
13:17Why?
13:17I don't need him cut.
13:18He showed that he could be a backup last year.
13:19Hell, he could show he could be a fourth quarter, a fourth quarterback and have a better attitude
13:23than a lot of other people about it.
13:24Why can't he be a backup to start the year?
13:26It's not better for him to be a backup to start the year, but I think it is an acceptable
13:30outcome if it has to go that way.
13:32Yeah.
13:32I, and you know, the Brian Hoyer talks about this a lot with the, whatever it was with
13:37Johnny Manziel and you know, it was portrayed by some, even in the media and people close
13:42to the Browns that Hoyer's being a jerk.
13:45And it was like, no, Hoyer was just really competitive and was going to show every which
13:51way he could, that he knew the playbook better than Johnny, that he was putting in the work
13:55more than Johnny.
13:57And I don't know, you know, Hoyer's talked a little about this.
14:00Brian respects professionalism and Johnny was anything, but that's the problem that happened
14:04between those two.
14:04But you know, what was said at the time from, um, some of the Johnny supporters, the, um,
14:11I know it, the extremists and then even some people with the Browns, like Brian's being
14:16a bad teammate.
14:17And I was like, I don't know, ask the head coach, ask head coach what he's looking for.
14:22Cause I guarantee you the head coach at the time was Mike Pettin, right?
14:25Uh, at the time and Kyle Shanahan, they wanted somebody who was going to demonstrate that
14:32they knew what the hell they were doing.
14:34Yeah.
14:34Even if that looked like they weren't being necessarily the most helpful of teammates,
14:37but you know, you bring up the great, you bring up the greatest point.
14:41Cause there was a lot of things that were said that were flatly untrue during that time,
14:45that year one with Johnny and with Brian.
14:47And I saw leadership qualities out of Brian that I didn't see out of Johnny.
14:51And I was too young and stupid and naive and, and wanted Johnny to be a star to really see
14:56it myself, to be frank.
14:58And Brian, when we started to see the wheels getting wobbly, which was really early in the,
15:02in the process with Johnny, cause you were more than welcome to show me or more than willing
15:06to show me that stuff.
15:08It just became a point where no, Brian's not a bad teammate.
15:11He's just not going to respect immaturity and unprofessionalism.
15:15Uh, he, he's been around the NFL.
15:17He stays around the NFL because he's a professional guys become career backups because they can
15:22be good teammates and they can continue to be professional.
15:25Now for either of these guys, you know, I don't know what Shudor's future is.
15:29If he were to be cut by the Browns, I got, I can't, I don't know.
15:32Cause there's a lot of people who seem to just want nothing to do with the guy.
15:35If he can't be a starter with Deshaun Watson, that's obviously a totally different bowl
15:40of wax.
15:41Can you be a backup in the league if it doesn't work out with the Browns?
15:44So they're not in the same situation as those guys, but I think that they can remain cordial
15:48and supportive of each other and not have an ulterior motive.
15:51Everybody wants to play.
15:53Everybody wants to start, including the quarterback and the quarterbacks who want to do it mostly,
15:56but you are not setting yourself up for success for yourself or for your teammates.
16:01If you were to go in your shell and not be a good supportive teammate, if you don't get
16:06that job.
16:06And I don't think that either one of those guys are with or like that with each other.
16:10I think there's definitely been situations like that before and situations like that
16:14before with the Cleveland Browns, but in, in their case, I don't think it is that way.
16:202-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92 Maurice in the Bay area.
16:24You're first up in the fan.
16:25Hello.
16:26What's up, Ken?
16:27What's up, Tom?
16:28Hello, Maurice.
16:29Go right on ahead, friend.
16:31Why you sound so down?
16:32But is it possible if I could add some context to this?
16:36So I think, honestly, I don't think that people think that Shador should get cut and think
16:42that he shouldn't be a backup.
16:44I don't think fans do at all.
16:46I think there's a minority of media who thinks he should be cut, and I totally disagree with
16:50them.
16:50I'm not wasting my time and my breath just to see him get cut at the end of all this.
16:54No.
16:55And it's, it's not his fans.
16:56So I think that they're, look, they, they understand context is, is that I heard you
17:02say this the other day, Tom, I was going to call, but you don't think that we should
17:06be able to add context to Shador's stats and this, that, and the third, but at the same
17:11time, I mean, what we got to understand now is that Munkin is the coach, right?
17:15And so Munkin used to be a quarterback himself.
17:19So yeah, I heard the videos of Deshaun Watson saying he's going to step on people's necks and
17:23they're, they're starting to get competitive.
17:25And I think it's at the right time.
17:27So if you think about when they had the little Deshaun coming out to speak to the media for
17:32the first time, they let Shador go first, knowing he's kind of like the darling of the
17:37situation.
17:38He kind of like, they're going to be good teammates.
17:41And I think again, Shador is going to be the starter, but I'm saying the Browns are protecting
17:46the situation so that Deshaun can be the bridge quarterback that they said a couple months ago.
17:53So there goes some context.
17:56Munkin is a quarterback himself.
17:58So again, Shador is going to play well.
18:00And so, so you guys are going to be happy at the end of the day.
18:03Well, I want him, I clearly want you to, and Maurice, thank you for the call.
18:07I appreciate it.
18:08And Maurice is listening on the free Odyssey app.
18:10Get it, especially if you're headed out of the area at some point here, because we got
18:13the LeBron stuff and camp is starting next week with the rookies.
18:16So there's a lot to get to.
18:17And the second half of the guardian season is there and they're right there in the thick
18:20of things in the AL central.
18:21So there's a lot to get to pick up the free Odyssey app.
18:23It's absolutely free.
18:24And you could use the leave a message, which is the coming in hot button, which you could take
18:2830 seconds.
18:28If you can't make a call, all that being pointed out there about the station, but getting back to
18:32the, to the tax of things here, when it comes to these two QBs, I just don't think it's
18:37going to be dramatic the way we want to.
18:39I think we're going to hear things from people, but I don't know how true they are.
18:42And that's what bothers me.
18:44Cause I think there's been some half truths and some, I'm not going to accuse people of
18:47lying.
18:48I think there's been some half truths and some stretches of things that have been put out
18:53there already this summer that I don't like that has come from neither of these two men.
18:56Yeah, I would agree.
18:57I do think, um, it's just, again, it's the fan bases are the ones that are most invested
19:02and I'm not even talking about Browns fans.
19:04We we've gotten to this.
19:06This is, this is no longer going to be unique to these guys.
19:08You're going to see it forever now that these players come in and they have fan bases that
19:13the only thing they care about is the player first before the team.
19:17Yeah.
19:17They might, they might adopt the team over time.
19:20If their quarterback has a role with that team, but so much of the noise from when we
19:26got Watson and now when we drafted Shador came from outside of Cleveland.
19:31Yes, it was, it was these, these fans that had dug in and that made it their identity
19:37to follow that player.
19:38That's what I mean.
19:39Maurice said, Oh no, we don't, you know, Shador fans don't all want him gone.
19:43If he doesn't win the starting job, uh, there is a, maybe it's a minority, but it is a vocal
19:47minority that they're ready to throw the Browns in the trash the minute they don't name him
19:52the starting quarterback.
19:52If they don't.
19:53And the Browns history is blamed right on him.
19:55So I can't really look sideways at those fine folks who were just dropping in on being Browns
19:59fans all of a sudden here.
20:00Cause their history would say that, yeah, they've been right more than they've been wrong about
20:03it.
20:03The fans, not the Browns.
