Victoria’s opposition leader Jess Wilson has promised to fill one million potholes across Victoria by increasing the state's road maintenance funding by 25 per cent. The Premier concedes there's more to do and says the Coalition would dig a bigger hole in government services.

00:02The opposition believes there's campaign mileage in the state of Victoria's roads.
00:07So how much would this cost?

00:11Jess Wilson is promising to boost funding to fix potholes and maintain roads by a billion dollars.
00:17To save the state's drivers from forking out for the damage they cause.
00:21When I was driving up the Hume last week there were literal craters in the middle of the road and
00:26cars were swerving to miss them.
00:28We're seeing dozens of jobs a week come into our shop and we have a lot of people comment how
00:35good that is for business,
00:36but for us we're just sick of being the bearer of bad news to a lot of families that just
00:40simply can't afford it.
00:41The opposition thinks it's on a winner, putting the state of Victoria's roads on the election map.
00:46I don't want to say that we want to reduce your business, but we're going to try.
00:49And it's a hard issue to avoid.
00:51I've seen the crews out there doing the works.
00:53The Premier spent the day in more comfortable campaign territory at the Frankston University Hospital.

01:00When it comes to roads the Premier says the government is already spending more than ever,
01:04but concedes there is more to do.
01:07As a regional person who travels the road network regularly,
01:12that's why I've made regional road maintenance funding a priority in the last three budgets.
01:17The opposition says it would increase spending by 25%, spread over four years,
01:23but is yet to explain where the money would come from.
01:26This is a preview of the bigger campaign to come.
01:29Labor is sticking with health, while the opposition focuses in on roads,
01:34a visible target that resonates, arguing the government has failed on this basic responsibility.
