Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Thai counterpart Anutin Charnvirakul resolved a fisheries trade dispute at talks in Putrajaya on Thursday (July 9), with the fix taking effect within a week.

The leaders also agreed to develop a special border economic zone and ease immigration and customs procedures.

00:17In May, Thailand restricted imports of Malaysian sea bass over concerns about chemical residues.
00:23Malaysia responded last month with a temporary ban on some Thai shrimp varieties,
00:27citing food safety controls.
00:30And we have resolved this issue of outstanding issues of fisheries with both ministers' commitment
00:39and they wanted the memorandum to continue and be affected in one and a half month
00:45and we agreed it should be affected in one week.
00:49Anutin is on a two-day visit to Malaysia aimed at strengthening economic ties
00:53and resolving long-standing border issues between the two Southeast Asian neighbours.
00:57The two leaders also agreed to move forward on developing a special border economic zone
01:02and to ease immigration and customs procedures between the countries.
