00:13Welcome to From the Field. This is Carlos Montero. 48 teams started, now only left 8.
00:24We are going to talk about the World Cup later, but we have to keep talking about Venezuela.
00:30Two weeks ago, during this program, the country shake. Two powerful earthquakes that almost killed more than 3,600 people
00:43who were going live.
00:45Our producer in Caracas, they were feeling that the building was shaking and they were saying, the producer Hillary was
00:54saying,
00:54stay calm, stay calm. We are going, we are live on television. Stay calm.
01:00At which point, they have to leave the building because it was for security and we went to black.
01:06Or solidarity with all the Venezuelan people and all those lives that they are lost.
01:12But let's go to see two weeks later, how is the situation right now?
01:16In communication with us is Hugo Presa. Hugo, good afternoon.
01:22How is the situation two weeks after those two powerful earthquakes hit Venezuela?
01:31Hello, Carlos. Good afternoon. It's a pleasure to be here from Caracas, Venezuela.
01:40As you were saying, 15 days since the earthquake that devastated a big part of this country.
01:48At this time of the afternoon, the death was striking, leaving important damages.
01:58What else can I say? In this zone that is one of the one that belongs to the category of
02:08disaster,
02:08authorities have performed different processes of remote trouble.
02:14In the middle time, hope of finding people alive continue here, at least in three zones of this sector in
02:27La Guayra.
02:28Precisely at the coast zone in this country, specifically at three collapsed buildings.
02:38People are being looked for, people that might be alive.
02:44Apparently, there is one building where there might be a child alive.
02:51And some other people might be trapped in Katia Lamar, where rescue and searching activities continue.
03:05Rescuers do not rest. Rescuers that have come from different countries of the world continue working.
03:13It's a tireless job from police officers, institutions of the state, civilian rescuers that are working on every single activity,
03:30from rescue to the remotion of robbers.
03:38There is an element of different activities looking to help people.
03:47The number of fatalities has aumented that we can count due to the remotion of robbers.
04:00The last figure reaches 3,685 deceased.
04:10During the last 12 hours, there are no rescued people.
04:16Families that are affected, 87,724.
04:20To this, we have to add that 17,907 people are living.
04:27A total of 856 buildings have been collapsed.
04:38And 86,794 families are receiving medical attention.
04:45The President yesterday had a meeting with a committee of assessment regarding the risk level of every single building in
04:59the zone.
04:59So they can start the activity of the reconstruction of houses.
05:16The temporary camps continue working, offering help and support to the affected people.

15:14Messi, Lionel Messi, with the goal who scored yesterday, he's ahead, eight.
15:19Then you have Kylian Mbappé with seven.
15:22Erling Haaland, he has seven.
15:24We have a graphic, too, if we can share that with the audience.
15:28It's going to help us to understand what's going on.
15:31Henry Kane has six goals, and Dembélé has four goals in that graphic.
15:40We can see that on the screen.
15:41The funny thing, there are two players from France who are in the top five.
15:46Who do you think is going to get the golden boot?
15:51Messi or Mbappé has a chance.
15:53All of them have a chance to keep scoring goals.
15:57Man, this is a very tough question.
16:00I mean, the top three in that race, Lina Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappé.
16:05I mean, these three are the pinnacle of footballing powers.
16:09You have Messi, despite being 39, is still showing that he's one of, if not the best in the world.
16:15Erling Haaland is, if you have to create a perfect striker in a lab, Erling Haaland would be that player.
16:21He is absolutely fantastic.
16:23He proved it in the Brazil game.
16:24He barely got any touches, but he's the type of player that he don't have to get any touches to
16:28destroy a back line.
16:30And that's why he has seven goals.
16:32And then Kylian Mbappé is what I call a complete player in terms of attacking sense.
16:37He could take you on.
16:38He has the dribble.
16:39He has the pace.
16:39He has the shooting.
16:40He has the awareness.
16:41He has all the athletic abilities that you would need to be a perfect forward.
16:46So this is a very hard question.
16:47I'm leaning a little more towards Kylian Mbappé simply because he has more help than I think Lionel Messi and
16:54Erling Haaland does.
16:55As great as they are, he has more help in terms of getting him the ball and breaking down defenses
17:01easier.
17:02So I think he's going to win the golden boot when it's all said and done.
17:06But, man, it'd be hard to bet against Lionel Messi.
17:09I mean, he's proving time and time again that age, father time is losing to this guy.
17:15And he's going to keep banging them in.
17:17And Erling Haaland, again, if they can get him more touches, he could probably score more goals.
17:21So it's really up in the air.
17:23But my money would be on Kylian Mbappé.
17:27Hamid, I have another tough question.
17:29And I want to share with your production team, prepare what they consider the best three goals of this World
17:37Cup so far.
17:37I want to broadcast the segment, and then I would like to know which one you think it was the
17:45best goal.
17:49Okay, so I think the best goal in the tournament so far has been the one against Argentina, the Cape
17:56Verde game.
17:57Sydney, the young left back who is 23 years old playing for Benfica.
18:02I did not know this.
18:03Now that I know this, and I'm a big Arsenal fan, I want Arsenal to sign them.
18:06I think that was the goal of the tournament by far.
18:09I mean, he'll probably never strike a ball that perfect again in his life.
18:13He almost did in that same game in the free kick.
18:16He almost replicated on the opposite side.
18:19But, man, I think that was by far the goal of the tournament.
18:24Hamid, now let's see the three biggest controversies.
18:28The last one was yesterday with the Egyptian coach, Hossam Hassan.
18:32But we have a segment, it's recorded with an audio.
18:37Let's listen to that segment, and then you tell me what you think the biggest controversy in this World Cup.
18:45Starting at number three, Miguel Almiron's red card left fans completely confused.
18:49The Paraguayan captain was sent off after covering his mouth while speaking to Turkey A's right back during a Group
18:54D match.
18:55Many believed the punishment was far too harsh, and the incident quickly became one of the most debated refereeing decisions
19:01of the tournament.
19:03At number two is Croatia's disallowed goal.
19:05They all found the back of the net.
19:07But after a review, the goal was ruled out because the tournament's ball sensor detected an infringement in the build
19:12-up.
19:13The decision sparked a huge debate over whether technology should have that much influence on crucial World Cup moments.
19:19Taking the top spot is Folarin Balogun's overturned red card.
19:22The U.S. striker was sent off during the match against Bosnia after a foul, meaning he was set to
19:27miss the crucial knockout game against Belgium.
19:30But just before the match, FIFA overturned the suspension, allowing Balogun to play.
19:34The controversy grew even bigger when U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he personally called FIFA President Gianni Infantino
19:42to ask for the decision to be reviewed,
19:44rising questions over political influence in FIFA's disciplinary process and making it the biggest controversy of the tournament.
19:53My vote goes to Balogun's, Trump getting involved, Gianni Infantino has to have said what he said.
20:01What do you think of those three? Which one was the biggest controversy, Hamid?
20:06Yeah, I agree with you. I think the Balogun one is definitely the biggest controversy.
20:11Now, it would have been worse if USA beat Belgium.
20:14Then we would be talking about it more that the politics influenced the result of the game.
20:21Luckily for us, it hasn't come to that.
20:24Belgium put away USA very comfortably, and the Balogun situation became null and void.
20:29But that was definitely the biggest controversy in my lifetime.
20:33I can't remember someone getting a straight red card and then a team or a nation appealing it, and then
20:39the player gets to play it again.
20:41I don't remember in recent memory that ever happening ever.
20:45So that was definitely the biggest controversy, but it had no effect on the game because Belgium showed that there's
20:50levels to this,
20:51and USA is not there yet.
20:54Everyone believed the hype.
20:55They were beating Paraguay and people in their group, even though they lost to Turkey in their last group stage.
21:00They beat Bosnia, again, ranked 64, I believe, in the world.
21:03Bosnia is not a superpower in terms of footballing power.
21:06So Belgium really humbled America.
21:09As for the Paraguay one, that's straightforward.
21:11After the incident with Vinny Jr. and the Benfica player, players cannot cover their mouth and say anything to another
21:18player
21:18because it can be deemed as something offensive.
21:21Even if it wasn't, the fact that you're covering your mouth deems that you don't want the cameras to do
21:26or say,
21:26and so automatic red card.
21:27And the Croatia one, it's really just unlucky.
21:31I've watched that replay maybe a million times.
21:34It probably grazed the hair of the Portuguese player.
21:39It took away a magic moment that could have been for Croatia.
21:42In the end, I think the call was right.
21:44But you just think if VAR wasn't a thing, it's taken away some of the special moments we could have
21:49with football without video replay.
21:50But definitely the ball game one is by far the biggest controversy in the World Cup so far.
21:58I don't agree with you, Hamid, about Baloghan.
22:01You said the red card, they say no.
22:05I mean, he can play.
22:07I think affected on the match because I was really surprised the USA team, a home team co-host,
22:13who beat Paraguay 4-1.
22:16They were losing that match.
22:17I mean, they were not energy.
22:19They were slow.
22:20Don't you think that all that situation, all that controversy could affect the USA,
22:25that the USA was better than the team that played against Belgium?
22:31I don't think it affected USA.
22:33I think it affected Belgium because Belgium came there with a point to make.
22:38They basically came there saying, okay, all right, it's your home soil.
22:41We're on America.
22:43You know, your president is calling the FIFA president to overturn.
22:47So they had something to prove and to fight for.
22:50I think it affected more Belgium than America, and then obviously Belgium teasing America
22:56by doing the Trump dance after they put away America.
23:00But I don't think it affected the game per se in terms of what America was going to do.
23:05For some reason, and I predict America to go to the quarterfinals and play Spain
23:10because I thought they looked pretty good under Pochettino,
23:13and I thought they were good collectively enough to be aging and, to be honest,
23:18not the best Belgium squad.
23:20But on paper, these Belgian players are better quality than the American national players,
23:26and they proved that, and they had something to prove as well
23:30because everything seemed to be against them with all the politics being involved in the sport.
23:36So I don't think it affected the game, to be honest.
23:39But if it did affect anything, it was definitely for the Belgian players
23:42than the American players.
23:45Hamid Mark, thank you very much.
23:47I'm looking forward to talk with you about the final, semifinal, and the final.
23:52By the way, I love your jacket or your shirt you are wearing right now.
23:56Very beautiful.
23:57Thank you, Hamid.
23:58Hamid Mark, he's in Florida, Florida.
24:01Let's see.
24:02Let's go with Charlie.
24:03Charlie Montero went to the street of Mexico City asking about prediction.
24:07What do you think?
24:08Who is going to do better in the quarterfinal?
24:11Let's see what fans have to tell Charlie.
24:16Hey, Carlos.
24:17How are you?
24:18One month and 95 games later, we have finally made it to the quarterfinals.
24:25There are eight teams left of this 48-team tournament.
24:28And to start off with, we have a rematch of the 2022 Qatar World Cup semifinal,
24:35France versus Morocco.
24:36Four years ago, France won two to zero.
24:40But I know this year, the African side is going to want to change the story.
24:45Later on, we'll have Spain versus Belgium.
24:49Belgium had a very rough start in this tournament, but they are going to try to show the world
24:55it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
24:59Later on, we have Norway versus England.
25:05The first time, we have two Golden Boot contenders facing off against each other.
25:11Holland has seven goals and Harry Kane has six.
25:16Each one will try to eliminate the other to be able to get until the semifinals
25:20and also get the Golden Boot Award.
25:24Speaking of the Golden Boot Award, there's another contender.
25:29Lionel Messi, his team will play against Switzerland after the European side
25:35knocked out Colombia in penalties.
25:39The Switzerland team already had a taste for South American victory,
25:44so they're going to try to repeat it against the world champions.
25:48I don't know what's going to happen.
25:50You don't know what's going to happen.
25:51But I had the chance to ask some fans here in Mexico City who they think will win each game.
25:58This is what they had to say.
26:00France or Morocco?
26:01France. Obviously, France.
26:03France will win the World Cup.
26:06I think French.
26:09France.
26:10France.
26:12France.
26:13France.
26:13I hope Morocco, but I think it's going to be France.
26:16Belgium or Spain?
26:17Spain.
26:18Spain.
26:19I think Spain, but 1-0, you know.
26:28Spain.
26:29Spain.
26:30Oh, yeah.
26:32No lo sé.
26:35Oh, corta, corta.
26:42What do you know?
26:43Spain.
26:44I think it's Spain, yeah.
26:45England or Norway?
26:47I think it's tough, but I will be with England.
26:51But I think England.
26:54Norway.
26:56I think it's the best game, this game, but Norway.
27:01England.
27:02Norway.
27:03And that's why Argentina or Switzerland?
27:05Switzerland, yes.
27:08Argentina.
27:08Messi, campeón del mundo.
27:11Yeah.
27:17I think it's going to be Argentina, yeah.
27:21Well, there you have it.
27:22The only answer that really surprised me was that some people said that Switzerland would
27:26be Argentina, but honestly, in this World Cup, anything can happen.
27:31My predictions are, I think that Morocco will get revenge on France.
27:35They will win 1-0.
27:37I think that Spain will beat Belgium 2-0.
27:40I don't imagine it being a very tough game.
27:43I would like Norway to beat England, but I'm not sure if Holland by himself is enough to
27:50beat Harry Kane and all his teammates.
27:52They have a very complete team.
27:53I think England will end up winning 2-1.
27:57And finally, I think Argentina will beat Switzerland 2-0.
28:02I said the same thing against Egypt.
28:04Who knows?
28:05We will see soon enough.
28:08Back to you, Carlos.
28:10Thank you, Charlie.
28:12Who knows?
28:12But I would like to see a semifinal between Spain against France and Argentina against England.
28:20I would love to see those two matches.
28:21That's all for today.
28:23Thank you very much.
28:24See you tomorrow.
28:25This is From the Field.
28:26Bye-bye.
28:32This is From the Field.
