00:53Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:55I'm Lorena Fon from the Telesurio Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:59We begin with the news.

01:18The government of Venezuela released an updated official report detailing the figures on the
01:24damage, losses and measures taken following the earthquakes that struck on June 24.
01:29According to the official report released on July 7, 2026, the death toll has risen to 3,685,
01:37while the number of injured remains at 16,740.
01:41Authorities also reported that 6,462 people have been rescued.
01:48And the report also indicates that 86,794 families have received assistance, while 17,907 families have lost their homes.
01:59In addition, 856 buildings have been damaged and 190 have collapsed.
02:05Release efforts have included the distribution of 9,603 medic tons of food and 8,130,036 liters of water,
02:15while 25,970 patients have received medical treatment.
02:20A total of 4,338 international rescue workers are assisting the country, alongside 29,576 deployed personnel and 28,362
02:33volunteers.
02:34Finally, authorities also reported the establishment of 87 temporary camps and the recording of 1,076 aftershocks.
02:50The acting president of Venezuela, Delsi Rodriguez, activated the Venezuela will rise again plan with the aim of rebuilding homes
02:57affected by the twin earthquakes that struck seven states in the country on June 24.
03:02The plan involves carrying out swift civil engineering works with priority given to Tula White State due to the significant
03:09structural damage it suffered in the initial disaster.
03:13The government has an initial fund of $200 million to finance the plan, which was set up just 12 hours
03:20after the earthquakes occurred.
03:21These resources have been unlocked by International Monetary Fund and other global financial entities.
03:35Venezuela's active president, Delsi Rodriguez, led a working session with national and international authorities to coordinate the debris clearance and
03:43removal phases of the recovery plan in the White State.
03:46The meeting focused on optimizing institutional logistics protocols ahead of deployments to the affected areas.
03:52In this context, technical assessments were based on a joint evaluation conducted with the United Nations Development Programme,
04:00which estimates the total volume of debris generated along the coastal region.
04:04The strategy includes controlled demolition methods and the safe processing of debris to help restore urban areas while ensuring the
04:11safety of local communities.
04:20On Tuesday, Venezuela's active president, Delsi Rodriguez, also held a working meeting with the United Nations and the Secretary General
04:27for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, following his arrival in the country after the seismic emergency caused by the recent earthquakes
04:35that affected seven states.
04:36During the meeting with Venezuelan authorities, the senior United Nations official praised the country's extensive, well-coordinated and practical humanitarian
04:45response.
04:46Fletcher said that the United Nations will maintain an ongoing joint working agenda with the Venezuelan government to review and
04:52coordinate crisis response efforts.
04:54For her part, the acting president reformed the government's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the multilateral system in support of
05:02ongoing civilian relief and recovery efforts.
05:12In Venezuela, the head of the Cuban medical brigade, Delsi Rodriguez, inspected Cuban medical facilities deployed in a wide state
05:19to provide care to those affected by the twin earthquakes that hit the country on June 24.
05:24In the face of the emergency, Cuban health personnel joint relief efforts from the very first moment.
05:30The Cuban doctor's response has focused on treating disaster-related conditions such as polytrauma fractures, open wounds and nervous crisis.
05:40The presence of the Cuban mission, which has teams in all 24 states of the country, represent a fundamental pillar
05:46in the wake of a high-magnitude natural disaster that left more than 13,000 injured.
05:57In Venezuela, 14 days after the devastating earthquakes on June 24, numerous buildings and apartments complexes in Tanahuarena neighborhood sustained
06:07severe damage and partial or complete collapses, leaving behind both victims and survivors.
06:15Rina was once an iconic residential area in the Laguara region.
06:20Today, that has changed.
06:21It is now a place marked by sorrow, with collapsed buildings and survivors who have not yet lost hope of
06:28finding their loved ones alive beneath the rubble.
06:30Working against the clock, international search and rescue teams, in coordination with personnel and agencies of the national government, continue
06:40their relentless efforts in the search for survivors, holding on to the hope of a miracle.
06:46The cooperation has been incredible.
06:49The cooperation has been incredible.
06:49We've worked in an organized, clean and respectful way.
06:52As you can see, this street was completely filled until just a short while ago.
06:57We started removing more rubble, but we already had heavy machinery clearing it away and trucks hauling away the debris.
07:04This is what we've removed today.
07:06Everyone here has worked with respect.
07:09Every minute counts in the search for survivors, trapped beneath tons of concrete and steel.
07:15Despite the extensive structural damage and the ongoing risk of further collapses, as aftershocks continue to strike without warning, rescue
07:24teams remain focused on their mission.
07:27As long as we stay united, we can accomplish any task. Their strength and unity.
07:33What has stood out the most is the teamwork and the respect shown throughout this operation.
07:38We owe them a great deal of gratitude.
07:40Above all, they've shown tremendous compassion and have treated everyone with respect at all times.
07:45That's truly admirable.
07:48With these images, from Tanaguarina, one message is clear.
07:52La Guayra is facing some of its most difficult challenges due to the loss of human lives and widespread material
07:59damage.
08:00The destruction is immeasurable.
08:03But the true value of this moment lies in every life that has been saved and in those who continue
08:10the tireless monumental effort to rescue survivors from beneath the rubble.
08:17While some survivors are trying to retrieve from their apartments some essential items so they can spend the night outside
08:23or in temporary camps.
08:28And now we have a short break coming up.
08:30But first, remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English, where you will find us in different formats,
08:35news updates, and more.
08:37We'll be right back. Stay with us.
09:01Welcome back to From the South.
09:02Cuba Express is gratitude for the support of the 136 countries that voted against the criminal and genocidal actions of
09:09the United States against the island.
09:11On the social media platform, ex-Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said,
09:16We thank the 136 countries that voted in favor of the UN General Assembly session calling for an end to
09:23the blockade, the energy blockade, secondary sanctions, and threats of United States military aggression against Cuba.
09:30Our deepest gratitude goes to the representatives of the member states who also spoke.
09:36We appreciate their condemnation of the rehumanitarian consequences imposed on the Cuban people by the measures of the U.S.
09:43government amid the unprecedented pressures exerted by the United States.
09:47The firm stance of these nations in defense of peace, multilateralism, the United Nations, and international law is crucial.
09:55Cuba is another threat. The blockade is.
10:12The death toll from a devastating landslide in northwestern China has risen to 21 following the conclusion of urgent emergency
10:19rescue operations.
10:20On Tuesday morning, 3343 more workers were trapped by the sudden shallow soil slide in the village of Renzang, which
10:28buried an area of over 5,000 square meters under 10 meters of unstable debris.
10:33Local officials attribute the disaster to steep terrain and localized erosion. Experts warned the hill slide remains heavily unstable, with
10:43secondary slides threatening recovery zones.
10:45While a massive risk control perimeter remains strictly enforced by local police, authorities confirm no local residents live within the
10:54impacted danger zone.
11:02In the United States, an investigation is underway in Houston after a federal immigration officer shot and killed a Mexican
11:10national during a targeted enforcement operation.
11:13The Department of Homeland Security State's 45-year-old resident Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot after allegedly attempting to ram
11:21an agent with his vehicle.
11:23However, his son claims his father was a hard-working construction laborer, merely picking up crew members.
11:29The FBI has launched an investigation into the incident, which marks at least the eighth death that tried two federal
11:36immigration encounters during the current administration's intensified mass deportation campaign.
11:43Democratic representatives Sylvia Garcia and immigrants' rights groups are now demanding an immediate independent review of all available federal footage.
11:57The United States President Donald Trump has reignited the diplomatic tensions with Denmark, as said once again that the United
12:05States should take control of Greenland.
12:07Speaking to reporters ahead of bilateral attacks at the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump's claimed Copenhagen fails to financially support
12:15the self-governing territory, declaring Greenland an essential strategic peace for Washington.
12:20The remarks drew immediately sharp condemnation from Danish officials.
12:25Tension had previously cooled in January when Trump ruled out the use of military force to secure the island.
12:34Escalating his stance, Trump tied the issue to the broader United States military presence in Europe, threatening a total troop
12:41withdrawal while warning that current immigration and energy policies threatened continental stability.
12:53In this regard, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has issued a firm diplomatic rebuttal regarding continuous U.S. threats over
13:02Greenland.
13:04The U.S. position is unfortunately very clear on this topic, and our position is as clear as it has
13:12been all through.
13:13Greenland is of course not for sale.
13:18We hope that all, including all allies, will respect the Greenland people's rights for self-determination.
13:29And we are a sovereign state, and we need everybody to respect our territorial integrity and our sovereignty.
13:57Iran states that the United States escalation renders key parts of the Memorandum of Understanding that ended the war null
14:04and void, and warns that it will respond in accordance with the right to self-defense.
14:09The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the U.S. military attacks constitute a flagrant violation of the peace agreement that
14:15ended hostilities between the two countries.
14:18Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the agreement with Iran had ended and revoked the license, allowing the
14:25sale of oil to Tehran.
14:26In response, the Iranian government stated that Washington has become ineffective and will, therefore, face dangerous consequences in light of
14:34its continuous attacks against the region.
14:44In this regard, China called on the United States and Iran to implement the agreements reached in the Memorandum of
14:49Understanding and to resolve their differences throughout dialogue.
14:52It also noted that resuming the conflict is not the interest of the mediators since military actions do not help
14:58resolve the fundamental problems in the region.
15:01Military tensions between Tehran and Washington are on the rise after the Sionist regime continue its military operations in the
15:08Middle East.
15:14On Wednesday, Israeli fighter jets launched a series of attacks against areas in southern Lebanon in yet another violation of
15:21the ceasefire and ahead of an oncoming round of talks between Tel Aviv and Beirut in Rome.
15:27The first strike targeted the Arah Ali al-Tahir area on the outskirts of Nabati al-Fakwa, following intermittent artillery
15:35attacks on the area.
15:37Authorities confirmed that the Israeli aircraft carried out three more strikes against the area between the towns of Beit Yahoun,
15:44Guonin and Barashit in the Bin-Jibel district.
15:47In this context, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that the death toll from the Israeli attacks on Lebanon has
15:55risen to 4,320 since March 2.
16:04On the information, Zimbabwe's President Emerson Nangawa extended his term until 2030 by enacting Constitutional Amendment No. 3.
16:12The constitutional reform changes the presidential election system, eliminating direct voting by citizens and delegating the appointment of the head
16:22of state to Parliament.
16:23With this measure, the ruling party, which holds a legislative majority, will be able to confirm the president.
16:30Emerson Nangawa, 83, who has held the office since Roberto Mugabe's departure, was scheduled to complete his second term in
16:372028.
16:38This change has been questioned by sectors of the opposition.
16:46It's a pleasure.
16:51We are now with our special segment on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
16:56Beyond the game, the ball stays pure.
16:59Go ahead.
16:59It's a pleasure to share the set with you.
17:02We are going to have more information, Lore, about this World Cup, which is entering the final stages after the
17:08break.
17:30Welcome to Beyond the Game. The ball stays pure. Argentina staged a thrilling comeback against Egypt to book its place
17:36in the quarter-finals.
17:37Atlanta Stadium hosted one of the most dramatic and electrifying matches of the tournament so far, as Argentina defeated Brazil
17:44in Egypt 3-2 in the round of 16.
17:46Leonel Scaloni's side was pushed to the limit to keep its title defence alive.
17:50The Ferros stunned the defending champions twice, with Jazza Ibrahim opening the score in the 15th minute before Mustafa Zico
17:57extended Egypt's lead in the 67th, putting Argentina on the brink of elimination.
18:01But the comeback began in the 79th minute, when Cristiano Romero pulled one back.
18:06Just four minutes later, Lionel Messi leveled the match at 2-2, and Enzo Fernandes completed a dramatic turnaround with
18:12the winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time.
18:15With the victory, Albi Celeste advances to the quarter-finals, where he will face Switzerland.
18:19The match was known without controversy. The third goal was announced for Egypt after a VAR review in an extremely
18:26similar play that led to Argentina's third goal.
18:29For one side, the VAR intervened. For the other, it remained silent. The Egyptian Federation filed a complaint before FIFA.
18:42I felt like many Argentines must have felt with a bit of anguish after the second goal.
18:48But we know Argentina has grip, has resilience, and Argentina's heart is there and...
18:56Well, we asked the Virgin of Lujan for that goal to come, for all the other goals that came right
19:01after.
19:02The truth is, it was very emotional.
19:08We never gave up, but we were very nervous. I kept thinking, no, no, no, and then...
19:13My voice is like this because of the second goal.
19:17I always know we're going to win. I suffered a lot, but we're going for the fourth one.
19:23And now, Saturday, I don't know, chaos for sure. Party from now until Saturday. Party, and then we'll see.
19:31And Switzerland also advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Colombia in a dramatic penalty
19:38shot-out.
19:39The round of 16 clash at Vancouver Stadium was defined by disciplined defending and very few clear-cut scoring opportunities,
19:46with neither side able to break the deadlock over 120 minutes, sending the match to penalties.
19:50Switzerland proved more clinical from the spot, as Granit Xhaka, Zeki Amuni, Cedric Eaton, and Ruben Vargas all converted,
19:58overcoming Manuel Akanji's missed attempt.
20:00Colombia responded through Juan Quintero, Hamilton Campas, and Luis Diaz.
20:04But misses from Davinson Sanchez and Juan Camilo Hernandez handed the Swiss a 4-3 shot-out victory.
20:11The result sends Switzerland into the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in 72 years.
20:30Anagif and Flans applauded their team's World Cup campaign despite a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Lionel Messi's Argentina in
20:37the last 16 in Atlanta.
20:42We did the impossible, and the impossible wasn't enough. Today our players were heroes. They did more than their part,
20:50honestly.
20:50We were equal, and they had the spirit of warriors. Thank God we played a great match that we couldn't
20:56even have dreamed of.
20:57We came very close to winning, but it wasn't meant to be.
21:02Did many good things. The team was exhausted, but the important thing is that we are happy.
21:08We are happy to have these players. They played good football and showed great determination.
21:14I want to tell the players, you have honored us. We are truly proud of every single one of you,
21:20and of the entire coaching staff, especially the coach, Hasan Hasan.
21:24It's the first time the national team has achieved something historic.
21:29We are extremely happy with your performance this year, and hopefully the future will be even better. Hard luck.
21:41And Colombian fans expressed their pride at their team after playing with everything they had.
21:52We thought we would go as far as possible. It wasn't to be, but I know we gave it our
21:57all. It just wasn't our day.
22:00We gave it our all. It was a very tough match. We weren't up against just any team, and it
22:06was a great game.
22:07We kept believing until the very last moment. This is as far as we got, but I'm proud that the
22:13whole world got to see what Colombia and Colombians are all about.
22:19And following the racist remarks made by a Paraguayan senator against France's captain, Kylian Mbappe,
22:25French defender Dayot Upamecano has publicly expressed his support for his teammate condemning these comments as completely unacceptable.
22:37He remains very focused on the match, even though such comments are unacceptable.
22:45We are all behind him. We must continue to fight against racism. As I said, we are all with him.
22:56I hope this person will face consequences.
23:02And the Croatian Football Federation announced that national team head coach Lato Dalic will step down following Croatia's elimination against
23:09Portugal at the World Cup.
23:11Dalic officially informed Croatian Football Federation President Marijan Kustik that his tenure will come to an end after the conclusion
23:18of the 2026 World Cup.
23:19He lives as the most successful and longest serving coach in the history of Croatian football, after nearly nine years
23:25in charge.
23:26The veteran managed to describe the decision as the most difficult of his career, saying that leading his country has
23:32been the greatest honor of its life.
23:35Dalic highlighted historical victories, including wins over England and Brazil, as well as the three medals Croatia captured under his
23:41leadership.
23:42Achievements, he said, exceeded all of his initial expectations. He added that the national team still has a very promising
23:48future ahead.
23:54Well, this is all for this edition of Beyond the Game, the Bolsa is pure. We'll be back with more
23:58information on stories shaping this World Cup. We'll go back to you, Lore.
24:02Thank you so much, Lizzie, for keeping us posted on today's updates in the world of football.
