This time last week the state's ski slopes were covered with more grass than snow. But that's all changed with conditions improving just in time for the school holidays, giving visitors and businesses a lift.

00:01A picture-perfect day in the snowy mountains.
00:05Sunlight, great shadows, lots of snow and it's not too cold.
00:09With Perishal looking like a winter wonderland.
00:12Feels so sick, the base is really good at the moment, sticks so well.
00:16It's a very late snow, so it's a very good day, thank God.
00:21Just a week ago these slopes were spotted with grass,
00:24following one of the worst starts to the season in decades.
00:27I'm not going to say grim but everyone was working really hard
00:31to keep everybody entertained and occupied.
00:33A lot of people wanted to leave because they weren't certain if the snow was going to come.
00:38But thanks to a snowstorm, Perishal saw almost 40 centimetres fall
00:41just in time for the school holiday crowds to get some turns in.
00:45Now look at them, you know, they're here, the sun's out, the snow's here,
00:49the snowmaking's going fantastic at night time.
00:52The snow's been amazing, it's definitely picked up.
00:55But there are still long queues for the ski lifts,
00:57with resorts needing a lot more snow to open up all parts of the mountain.
01:02Yeah, pretty slow, there could be a bit more snow but...
01:06The snow's actually pretty compact.
01:08Yeah, it's not very soft at the moment so stacks are going to hurt.
01:11Good snow.
01:12Good snow, I think I wish more.
01:14I'm having my fingers crossed, we just want to get more.
01:17Cold conditions are forecast for a while yet, giving more people the chance to carve it up.
01:23Let's go.
01:25Let's go.
01:25Start a new one.
01:29I don't know.
01:30And we'll see if I can't see you around the mountain.
01:30Let's go.
01:30You can't squeeze it again, that's crazy.
01:31All right.
01:31We'll see you in the morning.
01:31I'm so scared.
