00:00Smoke from many recent wildfires in the interior southwest and also in southern California have been leading to very smoky
00:06and hazy skies across the southwest.
00:09Now strong high pressure is anchored over the Four Corners region and it will only strengthen before eventually drifting farther
00:16to the northeast.
00:17So all week long and through the weekend we're going to be dealing with areas of smoke and haze generally
00:22just trapped near the ground with poor air quality.
00:25So those with respiratory illnesses will be facing some challenges.
00:28Fire danger still relatively high in the Four Corners region, not necessarily because of wind, but more the persistent dryness,
00:35a lot of heat.
00:36Without adding any extra moisture, you're going to have very low relative humidity.
00:40So it's going to be heating up in a big way across the southwest, but with this sprawling, sinking air
00:45mass under a strong ridge, we're dealing with an inversion, a layer of warmer air aloft that acts like a
00:51lid, trapping smoke and pollutants near the ground.
00:53So these are not going to be going anywhere anytime soon.
00:56Poor air quality for the Great Basin through the rest of the week and right through the weekend.
