00:00I'm Paul Rasmussen. PennDOT is making final preparations ahead of this weekend's closure of the Parkway East.
00:06NewsRadio KDK's Tamara Rush has details from the newsroom.
00:10Paul, as crews prepare for the Parkway East closure, PennDOT is making changes to detour routes to keep traffic moving.
00:16That includes adjusting lanes on Ardmore Boulevard in Wilkinsburg and retiming signals along the detour through Wilkinsburg, Point Breeze and
00:24Oakland.
00:25Officials say they'll continue monitoring traffic and making adjustments once the closure begins.
00:30PennDOT is also working with Pittsburgh Regional Transit and Pittsburgh Water to clear construction impacts along the route ahead of
00:37the Commercial Street Bridge replacement project.
00:39The 25-day Parkway East closure between the Edgewood-Swissville interchange and the Squirrel Hill tunnel runs from July 10th
00:46through August 3rd.

00:51An 18-wheeler carrying hazardous materials overturned last night on the 62nd Street Bridge in what's being called a large
00:58-scale incident.

01:02We just learned from the officer who responded first here on the scene that that tractor-trailer that tipped over
01:07was actually carrying peroxides.
01:09This happened around 9.30 on the Sharpsburg side of the 62nd Street Bridge.
01:14Crews from Allegheny County Emergency Services, the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, the Cherry City Fire Department worked quickly
01:22together to stop the leak from going into the drainage systems here.
01:26The Cherry City Fire Department says the hazardous materials have been taken care of.
01:29For now, the bridge will remain closed until the truck is removed.
01:33Marsboro and Adams Township were a step closer to a merger.
01:36On Monday, Mars Council voted 6-1 to approve a merger agreement with Adams Township.
01:42Mars resident Robert Bresko shared his reaction with KDKA-TV.
01:47I'm very happy because it's going to benefit everybody in Mars, especially us senior citizens on a fixed income.
01:53Our taxes are going to drop down from 25.33 to 3.75 mils.
01:59That's a big jump.
02:00If a majority of voters in both Adams and Mars approved police, public works and other departments would be consolidated
02:07and the combined communities would be called Mars Township, the referendum will be on the November ballot.
