00:00Générique
00:30on grass and once on clay.
00:32How did you tactically adapt your game
00:34to playing someone as tricky as Sasha on grass?
00:38I think a lot of the matchups we played in the past,
00:45it was a while ago,
00:46so I think both of us are completely different players.
00:49I'd say only within the last two years,
00:55the matchups that we had, I really remember well.
00:57And I'd say the biggest difference just on grass
01:01is the way I return.
01:03I return a lot differently on grass.
01:05And for me, in Stuttgart and here,
01:11I felt like I had just pretty good reads on some of the serves,
01:16and I was getting good hits on his first serve
01:23and starting points in really good spots.
01:26And I mean, it's always just going to come down in the end
01:29to big points here and there.
01:33I remember we played in Paris.
01:33He beat me.
01:34It was just a super close first set tiebreaker.
01:36Like, you know, anytime you have two big servers,
01:40it's the margins are very small.
01:43And that's what I did best today was when I got my opportunities,
01:48I took them.
01:50And when he had some chances on my serve,
01:53I did really well to get out of it.
01:55All right, the back.
01:56Hello, Taylor.
01:57I just wanted to, I know you've had some frustration
01:59the last year or so with the injuries
02:00and not being able to really get it going.
02:03When did your last feel this good on a tennis court?
02:12Probably, you're talking more about just like my body, right?
02:16Both physically and in terms of your game,
02:17because obviously you're into the quarters.
02:19It seems like things are going well.
02:21I mean, my game, I felt great.
02:22I felt good about my game at World Tour Finals last year,
02:26but I wasn't, my body wasn't there.
02:29I'd say the last time I felt good about my body
02:33would have been like Tokyo, probably.
02:38Like after like US Open, Labor Cup, Tokyo
02:40was like the last time I'd say I remember kind of playing
02:43and like not thinking about knee pain or whatever
02:46when I was playing.
02:47So yeah, it's great to be back at that again.
02:50Why is that?
02:51Hi Taylor.
02:52Will you be watching any of the Zverev LaHechka match coming up?
02:55And I was talking to a few of the players
02:57about how they analyze matches.
02:59I know you're quite technical and you like looking at that.
03:03Will you sit down with your team
03:04and actually put together quite a detailed plan?
03:07And how much do you enjoy that as well?
03:09I mean, I wouldn't, I wouldn't call it like detailed.
03:12I like to just watch and just pick up on, you know,
03:18on certain things.
03:20I don't, I'm not like breaking down all the, all the statistics
03:22and stuff like that.
03:23I think there's too much, you know, I like to go off of just what I,
03:27what I see and feel.
03:29And I, and when I'm watching people play, I feel like I can,
03:31even if someone misses a shot, I can say, oh, I feel like they hit that
03:34with a lot of confidence and so on.
03:36So I'll watch just because it'll be, it'll be on when I'm like doing treatment.
03:42I typically don't.
03:43And then I like to watch through a different lens though,
03:49once I know who I'm playing, because then I can be more specific
03:54about what I'm paying attention to.
03:55It's, it's different when I'm watching a match of two players.
03:58I can't really like focus that hard on, on one of them.
04:02and we're just kind of watching for the enjoyment of it.
04:05Would it be patterns of play?
04:07Like what are you actually personally looking out for?
04:11I mean, yeah, certain patterns, certain, certain just shot.
04:16I mean, it's hard to explain.
04:17I, I just like watch it.
04:19I just, I, when I watch it and I actually focus really hard when I'm watching,
04:22then I just, I don't know, I absorb it.
04:27Just two things.
04:28One was if you could, can you explain what the difference is between,
04:33or your return on grass?
04:35And then also just what is the treatment like to maintain the knees health?
04:40Cause obviously it's been working this week.
04:43Yeah.
04:44I mean, the way I return is, I mean, I just stand like extremely close.
04:49I use my, just my first step and my, and my reach to just cover as much of the, the
04:57quarter as I can.
04:58And I'm, I look to, I hit the backhand chip, the forehand, I change it in certain matchups.
05:05Um, but you know, there's times that I'll hit over and I'll, and I'll back up.
05:10And I did some of that in, in Holly and I did some of it here last year, but you
05:17know, I, I love my, my chip forehand.
05:19I think it works.
05:20It works on grass because the serve is always going to shoot through more, you know, on other services,
05:26the service is going to come up a bit more.
05:27So you're going to have less pace to work with on the return.
05:32And then when I do hit a chip as well, it's going to just sit there a bit more on
05:36the other side of the court.
05:37So they're going to be able to do a bit more with it, but, and then I'm going to get
05:41punished for being so far up in the court, returning on the baseline,
05:45because I'm not going to be able to defend when I'm that close to the, to the baseline.
05:49Um, and then they get to just attack off of a, you know, a chip that kind of sits there,
05:53but on grass, um, you know, the serve comes through more,
05:57it gives me more pace to work with my chip stays low. It comes through the court. I feel like,
06:02um, it makes it, you know,
06:06it just gets on the person very fast and it makes it tough for them to attack me on the
06:12first ball.
06:14That's about center court scheduling here is, uh, Madison keys.
06:18Who's played here a long time. I said, played for the first time this year on center court,
06:21her previous match, just a little place on for the first time in her career tomorrow.
06:25So a lot, even like a lot of veterans don't get that many looks at playing on that court.
06:29And you've been on there a handful of times. I'm just curious, sort of how it, if challenge, if anything,
06:34it poses for you.
06:36I think I said the other day, I actually, I actually get court one and center, like mixed up quite
06:40a bit.
06:40Like when I look back, you've been on center a few times when you played Rafa, certainly in your semi
06:45here.
06:46That makes sense.
06:47I mean, like I would, I can, I can check which times you were on there.
06:49Yeah. I get lost sometimes. I just don't know some, like earlier in my career.
06:52I don't know sometimes if the matches I played were court one or center court, but yeah, I'm not sure.
06:56Does it make a difference for you?
06:57Like if you're playing a tournament and you might not get on center till the semis, let's say,
07:01does that make it, and maybe the guy you've played has played on center the whole time.
07:04And is that, that, is it all a challenge?
07:06Like, how do you think of sort of, maybe it's not an issue for you if you can't tell the
07:09difference, but yeah,
07:10I mean, in general at other tournaments, like in general, I would say it's a, it's a, always going to
07:18be a slight advantage to just be doing the same thing.
07:22Over again. Maybe that's just me. I'm superstitious like that. I like to do the same thing over and over
07:27again.
07:27I do think, yeah, if you're playing on the same court every day, like you get a good feel for
07:31it. It feels nice.
07:32Like I was thinking about that going into this match. Like I just played a match.
07:36I played my last two matches on court two, but we just played right around the same time on the
07:43same court against Francis.
07:44So I thought, you know, that's maybe slight helps, helps a little bit. I don't, you know, I couldn't tell
07:50you how much it helps,
07:51but I feel like little, little margins can make a difference sometimes.
07:55It wouldn't make a difference to you if you were, had to adjust to center late in tournament.
07:59You could have to at some point, you know, it kind of just is what it is.
08:02And, and at the end of the day, like the highest ranked players have, have earned that right to, to
08:06be on center and to be playing there the whole tournament.
08:08So it kind of just is what it is.
08:10Taylor?
08:11Yeah.
08:12Taylor, just on another topic, just wanted your thoughts about Balogun's red card and, and Trump asking FIFA to, to,
08:20to, to change the situation.
08:22Yeah.
08:23I mean, I think, I think obviously it's not something that happens a lot where they overturn a red card,
08:28but I think everyone can agree that it shouldn't have been a red card.
08:32He shouldn't be out.
08:34So it's, it's great to have him back.
08:35I thought I posted on my store at the, me, it was pretty funny of the, the ref giving a
08:40red card.
08:40Then he was holding up like an Uno reverse card back to the ref.
08:43I thought that was pretty funny, but yeah.
08:45I'm happy, happy that he's going to be playing.
08:48Taylor, you, you said in terms of your body last year, you started to feel your, your knee more, but
08:53can you compare your form and your ball striking this year to last year?
08:58And secondly, also, um, what do you know about Arthur Ferry?
09:03I mean, I'll start with that.
09:04I know, I know a good, good bit about Arthur.
09:06I went to, to London, um, before the 2024 world tour finals.
09:14And I did a training week there prior to Turin and I practiced with him most of the week.
09:21Um, he was there and he was, I was, I was, I was playing well.
09:24I made finals of Turin the next, the next week.
09:26I was pretty good about my game, but he was, he was beating me like every day.
09:31He's kind of, he was, I was like, yeah, like this guy's, this guy's really good.
09:36This guy can play a good forehand for his size.
09:39Unbelievable serve.
09:40Um, like I said, we were playing sets, baseline games.
09:44He was kind of, he was cooking me pretty consistently for the week.
09:47And, and I knew that I was, I was playing good tennis.
09:49So it's not, not surprising to me that, you know, he's, he's having results and also taking advantage of a
09:56draw that's like opened up a bit.
09:58I feel like it doesn't surprise me at all that he's, that he's winning.
10:01I know that he's, I've known since, since then that he can play.
10:05Did you run across him in California at all?
10:07Was it?
10:07When he was at Stanford?
10:08No, not at all.
10:09I know just literally just, uh, at the end of that, that 2024 season.
10:15And then, so what was the other, the other form this year versus last year?
10:19I feel good.
10:20I think it's, it's slightly different.
10:21Um, just because I've played the last two matches I've played have been really like serve, like dominated by like
10:31both players.
10:32So there hasn't been a lot of like baseline play.
10:36I feel like last year, I mean, the first two rounds were like that, but I, I felt like there
10:42was more playing from the back of the court last year.
10:46So my matches, like when I played Fokina, I think that was around a six, I think that was around
10:51a 32 or 16.
10:52I can't remember, but, um, yeah, there's been less rhythm in my matches.
10:57So it's tough to tell, but I, I'm feeling just as good.
