00:00This is the annual Kent County Show. Three-day event full of your favourite
00:04barnyard animals, classic cars, live music and yes, even reptiles. The event is
00:11expected to see about a hundred thousand people in attendance over the three days.
00:15That's a lot of people. Everyone here to celebrate what makes Kent, Kent. Whether
00:20it's locally produced food, products or even just a day-to-day life. What do those
00:25people enjoy about Kent County Show? Well, let's have a look.
00:28It's been fantastic. The weather's been great. I've been performing up on the
00:32music stage today with my band so yeah, it's been a wonderful, wonderful day.
00:36Brought the kids as well today so it's all good, all good. It's just got a really
00:40nice family feel about it today. It's been lovely just seeing everybody out just
00:45enjoying themselves. Oh, fabulous, fabulous show. It's so much bigger than we were
00:51expecting. Lots of shops, it's really good. Ice cream. Everyone's friendly and happy.
00:58Weather's great. What's not to like? It's been quite great. I've got to see a lot of
01:02different animals speak to a lot of people that breed the animals so it's really good
01:08to learn about things. So yeah, everyone's been a really good day.
01:12The weekend was full of fun and games but one message ran clear throughout. The importance
01:18of keeping produce local. It's supporting our farmers, it's supporting the local economy
01:23and we produce some fantastic crops from strawberries, cherries, apricots, apples. There's
01:29no end of crops which are producing. So we're obviously with the issues in farming at the moment
01:34it's important to, about British farming, I expect the word. It sort of helps to keep money
01:39within the county. It showcases what we're good at. We are the Garden of England. At the moment,
01:43we're buying wholesale from wholesalers and farmers around Kent as well. But the goal
01:48is to have our own farm and then grow our own produce.
01:52Every place in the world should source their own food. Whether it's the raw material, whether
01:58it's a grown item, whether it's a manufactured item, it's important that people can find things
02:04locally. And it was also an opportunity for charities to raise awareness of the work they
02:08do. This is our biggest fundraising opportunity of the year. To not only raise money for maintaining
02:17the animals and making their lives better, but also for educating people.
02:25For some, coming to the Kent County Show is a yearly tradition. But for others, like me,
02:31this may be their first time. But what's clear is that this was a celebration of all the things
02:36that make the county. And as an animal lover, I had a great time, though I didn't quite
02:41get to hold a snake like I wanted. So maybe next year will be the year for me.
