00:00In a statement on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Basasas said she visited the Plip Deco
00:06warehouse at Point Lices to observe the ongoing receipt and processing of humanitarian relief supplies for the people of Venezuela
00:12following the devastating earthquakes there on June 24th.
00:16The Prime Minister said she is deeply encouraged by the overwhelming generosity of the people and the corporate community of
00:23Trinidad and Tobago and that to date, more than 200 pallets of relief cargo along with over 500 mattresses, infant
00:30care items, water, beverages, pillows and other essential emergency supplies have been donated in support of this national humanitarian effort.
00:40At the Disaster Management Unit in Port of Spain, Rural Development and Local Government Minister Khadija Amin gave the media
00:47an update about the ongoing relief efforts in Trinidad and Tobago for Venezuela.
00:51From the moment the Prime Minister indicated that Trinidad and Tobago will send relief to Venezuela, I started getting calls
00:59from the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association, the Business Chamber, the Rotary Clubs.
01:04There were several ministers who, members of the business community, members of the public were reaching out to and I
01:11think that level of enthusiasm is positive.
01:13You also have a lot of groups who do social work with Venezuelan citizens who are in Trinidad and many
01:21of them have also reached out with concern because they have relatives there in Venezuela that they want to get
01:26items to.
01:27Minister Amin said that the Disaster Management Units at all of the regional corporations are serving as collection points for
01:34donations and that the staff at each of them are packaging the items for shipping and then distribution in Venezuela.
01:41Today, as you can see, we have boxes packed with canned foods, a lot of baby diapers, sanitary napkins, baby
01:51wipes and a lot of some medical things like bandages and plasters and gauze and so on and we also
01:58have cases of water.
02:00Minister Amin said over 1,000 buckets with items such as dried foods and powdered milk have been packaged in
02:07collaboration with Siwa TT.
02:10TV6 users sought for the details.
02:12How long will this exercise continue for persons to donate?
02:16Well, we would want to close off by Wednesday because we want to package everything.
02:21The items that we have now have been packaged.
02:23So any donations between today and Tuesday, Wednesday will be packaged on Wednesday to get down to Plip Deco so
02:33that they can go on the pallets and be ready for shipping on Friday.
02:36Minister of Works has indicated that the Galleance Passage will sail to Venezuela on Friday.
02:43So we want to ensure that all our corporations get their things into Plip Deco by Wednesday.
02:49The Galleance Passage services the inter-island sea route between Trinidad and Tobago.
02:53On X, Prime Minister Pusalbis has said these relief supplies are scheduled to depart aboard the Galleance Passage on Friday,
03:00July 10th, delivering much-needed assistance to our neighbors in Venezuela.
03:04The Prime Minister visited Plip Deco before she departed for St. Lucia to lead Trinidad and Tobago's delegation at a
03:11CARICOM Heads of Government meeting.
