00:07It can really benefit by utilizing more technological advances,
00:11such as encouraging tourism through virtual reality to bring in more guests,
00:16endorsing our brand ambassador that really represents the true Tobago niches
00:21that we can represent here on the island,
00:24and just lowering our environmental impact.
00:28Representing Tobago on the regional stage is an opportunity Shania Phillips says
00:33she is embracing with pride,
00:35as she hopes to showcase the island's tourism potential while promoting sustainable tourism.
00:41I do see myself in future leadership roles that would help our economy grow and boost itself some more.
00:46Outside of tourism, Phillip is pursuing biology, physics and chemistry,
00:52with ambitions of becoming a pediatrician.
00:55She credits her passion for Tobago's tourism industry to her family,
01:00including her cousin dancer Kimmy Potts,
01:03whose work has inspired her appreciation for the island's culture.
01:07She's a confectionery maker.
01:10She makes local sweets like sugar cake and Benavolz,
01:14and she used to sell them at the A&R Robinson Airport,
01:17so she would actively communicate with other locals as well as international visitors.
01:22Signal Hill Secondary School has now captured the Junior Secretary of Tourism title for the third time,
01:30having previously won the competition in 2022 and 2023.
