00:06Hi everyone, my name is Jan Tysen, I'm Creative Director at King Art Games and Game Director of Dawn of
00:10War 4.
00:11And I'm Elliot Furbeest and I'm a Senior Game Designer on Dawn of War 4.
00:14Warhammer 11th Edition is here and we thought we'd celebrate this, but I'll give you an extended look at Dawn
00:18of War 4 multiplayer.
00:20First up, Space Marines vs. Orcs. Discipline firepower against pure battlefield chaos.
00:25So this matchup is all about map control, pressure and momentum.
00:28The Space Marines can dominate key engagements with smaller elite forces, but if the Orcs are allowed to build numbers
00:34and control the flow of the battlefield, things can spiral very quickly.
00:38This gameplay is captured directly from multiplayer and we want to give you some insights into scale, pacing, faction identity
00:45and Dawn of War 4.
00:46Alright, let's jump right into it.
00:48Okay, let's go. Yeah, this is a relatively small map.
00:52But as always, map control is very important and economy is very important, so early on you try to capture
00:59as many resource points as you can.
01:02I'm playing the Space Marines and the Blood Ravens in this case, but of course you can use the Army
01:06Painter to play any chapter you want.
01:09And Elliot is playing Orcs, so he will have a lot more unit than I have.
01:13But my units are stronger, so let's see how it goes.
01:18Indeed, indeed. And I am already going to go ahead and make a play because when it comes to Orcs,
01:22it's all about quantity over quality.
01:26So I know for a fact that Space Marines are relatively power hungry, so I'm going to go ahead and
01:30make a play for the center of the map already and see if I can capture and hold this power
01:35node.
01:35Because the more I can starve Yon of power, the better for me in the long term.
01:40Orcs are relatively snowball-y as a faction, so the longer that I can hold on and fight and become
01:47stronger, the better chances I have of winning.
01:51I'm stronger, or Space Marines are stronger one-on-one, so if I can catch one of his guys one
01:57-on-one, I will definitely attack them.
01:59But usually there might be more than one Orc, and so I might not be able to attack them.
02:03Generally speaking, I want to try and avoid fighting Yon's Space Marines one-to-one.
02:11So if I can try and outnumber him in a fight, that will definitely help me win engagements.
02:18And I see he's got a power node here, so I'm going to go and try and snap that while
02:23he's upgrading it.
02:24Because power nodes generally, when you capture them with infantry, you automatically gain all the power generators that are on
02:32them as well.
02:33So if you manage to steal them from under your opponent's nose, that means that you can just take a
02:39lot of power input from them right away.
02:42Right, and also these points cannot defend themselves.
02:46The requisition points, when you upgrade them, they become, you know, something that can shoot back and can fight back.
02:53But these guys cannot, so I need to go over there and recapture quickly, because power is really important for
03:01me as a Space Marine.
03:03And as you can see here, he's already taken out a few of my units, but maybe I can hold
03:07on for just a little bit longer.
03:08But I think this is looking pretty bad.
03:10So I'm going to go ahead and hit retreat on my shooter boy, so they run on back to the
03:16closest production building.
03:17Let's see if we can stop him.
03:19I don't know, I do get...
03:21I think he didn't realize that a second of my units joined the fights, and also I put one of
03:27my units, I gave them auto-reinforcements, which basically means that the unit heals automatically.
03:33Very expensive, costs a lot of resources, but, you know, it also makes them very hard to kill.
03:38And I'm going to go ahead and start building a base right over here.
03:43So one of the unique things about the orcs is that their infantry units, almost all of them, can build
03:49structures pretty much wherever they want on the map.
03:52Which, because structures are relatively cheap for the orcs as well, and they're all armed, lets me just spread out
03:58a whole bunch of bases across the map, essentially.
04:03It's effectively a way of, like, utilizing base crawling as a legitimate strategy.
04:08Right, and what I just did is, I did a little bit of research.
04:12Basically, depending on what you want to do in the game, you know, you want different things earlier or later,
04:17right?
04:18Because research in the game doesn't cost any resources, it just costs time.
04:22So it's all about the order in which you research something.
04:24And basically, you know, I could have researched, you know, that my units capture points faster or, you know, that
04:31I get more armor for certain unit types, stuff like that.
04:35And yeah, most of that is useful at the beginning.
04:38And so the question really is, okay, what is the current situation, right?
04:42So, for example, if this would be, like, a bigger map with more points, and there would be more points
04:47to capture, you know, then maybe I would have picked the capture points faster ability.
04:52But since I already have all the points that I probably can have, at least for the foreseeable future, you
04:59know, I basically picked more fighty stuff.
05:03Okay, looks like you're making a move for the center power node here.
05:07So I'm going to try and do something about that.
05:10Yeah, that was maybe a little bit ambitious.
05:12So let me actually...
05:14That's right, come back another time.
05:16Put some defenses up here.
05:18That's an excellent idea.
05:19Let me go ahead and do that myself.
05:21I'm going to go ahead and build a bomb squig pen here.
05:24One of the more hardier fortifications that the orcs have.
05:28They automatically generate bomb squigs and send those out to any enemies in range.
05:33Right, and we can have a look at the different upgrades.
05:36So I can equip them with auto-bolt rifles, with swords, for example, and with grenade launchers.
05:44In the early game, you know, I don't need the stuff that's good against vehicles and structures.
05:48I more need stuff that is good against infantry.
05:51So I equip that for now.
05:53Oh, he's attacking me.
05:55That's not...
05:55There we go.
05:56We've gotten the power node here, and we've taken over all the generators.
05:59That's going to be a nice power boost for me.
06:02Maybe what I'll go ahead and do is I'm going to put a mech gun here.
06:06See how you like that.
06:10Nice try, but I think you're in trouble.
06:14Uh-oh, pincer maneuver.
06:17Yeah, I'm out of here.
06:19Forget about it.
06:22All right, let's run back to base.
06:23Let's see if we can get a couple.
06:25So I've got myself a scrap heap here.
06:28Get some vehicles out for myself.
06:31Hopefully that will give me some armor against you.
06:35Yeah, these are the bomb squigs from this bomb squig pen.
06:38They are nasty.
06:38If they reach you, they can actually deal a lot of damage, even for space marines.
06:41Ah, what's this, trying to sneak past me here?
06:45I don't think so.
06:48Got some Def Coptas here to try and take you down while you make your way over.
06:53I think I'm just going to go ahead and take that point, if that's all right with you.
06:57You can try, you can try.
07:00Actually, now I have enough resources.
07:05The Hammerfell bunker coming down.
07:09Okay, that's not looking great for me.
07:11Let's get out of here.
07:13That's a little bit too fortified.
07:15So that's definitely one of the strengths that the space marines have, is that they can
07:18just spontaneously drop a defense or two onto a position, and you have to be able to respond
07:25to that fairly quickly.
07:26Also, one thing we can do is we can produce stuff in reserve, which basically means that
07:32it's not going to be on the battlefield, but instead in orbit.
07:36And then I can drop it any way I want.
07:38So let's do that for a little bit of a surprise.
07:43That's a little bit more range than I expected.
07:45I'm going to pull back out of this, but I think we managed to deal a little bit more damage
07:50to you this time.
07:55There we go.
07:59We're going to hang on back here for a minute.
08:01I think I'm going to go see if I can build a couple more faster-moving units to try and
08:07get
08:07an eye on what you're up to and see if there's any points that I can capture here.
08:13I mean, there are three energy points on the map and I only have one, so it would be really
08:17great if I could capture another energy point, but I think he might have something against
08:22that.
08:25Okay, never mind.
08:26I'm going to just demolish that building under construction.
08:30That should refund the resources for that.
08:34It doesn't work for fully built structures, but in this particular case, I think that's
08:37necessary.
08:39Actually, let's come down and also let's add a little bit of a stratagem here.
08:46Uh-oh.
08:48Yep.
08:49That space means for you, baby.
08:55Okay, now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, so I'm going to go ahead and see if
09:01I can create a corridor to get my units out of here.
09:05Oh, okay.
09:05That's looking like a pretty sizable army you've got going on there, so I'm not exactly sure
09:10how I'm going to capture that point, but maybe I can take a look to see where else I
09:16can take some resources off of you.
09:18So that was a successful result, I would say.
09:22Okay, shock and awe tactics.
09:24Now I have two energy points, which should really help me out, because all the big stuff
09:28I want to build costs energy.
09:30And now I can build a vehicle production.
09:34I'm building my chaplain on bike next.
09:36Here it still says Ezreal, but in the final game, the commanders will be generic in the
09:40skirmish on multiplayer matches.
09:42Oh.
09:42Whoa.
09:43I didn't see that.
09:44Ah, now I don't have enough resources to drop a hammerfall, so this point is probably gone.
09:50Yeah, very good.
09:51I was hoping that you would have let that one relatively undefended, because then I can get
09:55away with taking that point, because I've got a pretty big requisition cost right now
10:00that I need to take care of.
10:03There's Ezreal.
10:06There we go.
10:07Now I've got my own commander out as well.
10:09We've got Guzcutta here.
10:12Hmm.
10:13Okay, I see here what you've got.
10:16Let's see if we can tackle your blade guards over here.
10:19Ah!
10:21If that ain't Ezreal, well, let's see if we can take him on, then.
10:28Let's attach.
10:29Bring it.
10:29Come on.
10:30All right, let's dance.
10:34Let's use an ability here.
10:40Oh, okay, that was a little bit much.
10:43So, let's do a quick retreat.
10:46Darn eradicators.
10:48But I'm not out of the woods just yet.
10:51Can I maybe put that down here?
11:00Uh-oh.
11:01The unique thing about the orcs is that once I have reached maximum Waw here, we are able
11:08to unlock everything that the orc arsenal has to offer.
11:13And then I think I've got enough for a Gorkonaut.
11:16There we go.
11:17Oh, okay.
11:18Let's see if we can put that together as fast as we can.
11:21And we're just going to hold the line.
11:25We also have our final ultimate stratagem here.
11:30And that should hopefully give us a bit of an edge in the fights to come.
11:34Uh, yeah, let's try big attack here.
11:36I placed some units in reserve and in the Thunderhawk relay.
11:41So, hopefully that is going to be a nasty surprise.
11:45Okay.
11:45Okay, I think I might have just a thing to deal with this, though.
11:49Bring it on.
11:50Oh, big boys.
11:53Okay, then let's do a bombing run, definitely.
12:00Okay.
12:02Okay.
12:03Yeah.
12:05I think I might have this when it comes to the vehicle capabilities.
12:12There are cavalleries here.
12:16Thunderhawk.
12:17A bunch of units.
12:20Some drop pots.
12:27Oh, big boys.
12:30Ooh.
12:31Okay, I think I'm going to have to pull back from this.
12:34Got to find another solution.
12:36I'm just going to make sure that I can fortify myself as best as I can.
12:41And I think it's time to start putting these Gorkonauts together.
12:46Yeah, then maybe it's time for me for an Orbital Bombardment, which is my strongest stratagem.
12:54Ooh, yikes.
12:55It deals a ton of damage.
12:58Ah, but it also deals damage to your own units.
13:00And that seems to have cost you.
13:03Yeah, but I think it costs you more, so I'm okay with that.
13:07Not great, but okay.
13:10Okay, looks like the Gorkonaut made the difference in this particular fight right now.
13:16Let's see if we can take care of your eradicators.
13:19I think you might have not seen the real danger here.
13:24I don't know.
13:25Is it a danger?
13:26I will come check up on that later when I can.
13:31Right now, I'm just going to make sure to fortify this position here.
13:35Oh, no.
13:36He has a second HQ.
13:37Ah-ha.
13:38Ah-ha.
13:38No, this is orc stuff.
13:40This is bad.
13:42Okay, let's see where it is.
13:44Exactly.
13:45Orcs can build everywhere, and I'm going to make use of that.
13:48Okay.
13:49It's not over yet.
13:50This is going to be tough, though.
13:52Not looking great for me.
13:54Let's finish these constructions first, if we can.
13:58Okay, this is looking pretty rough for me.
14:00I think I may have overplayed my hand here.
14:05I have a little bit more coming.
14:09There's not much I can do here, so I think that this is going to conclude this particular
14:14match.
14:15So, well played indeed, yum.
14:18Yeah, thanks.
14:19I mean, this was definitely one of the smaller maps, so this was also pretty quick, maybe
14:2320 minutes or so.
14:24Of course, we have much larger maps, and you can also play two versus two or three versus
14:29three.
14:29Matches can take up to an hour if you play something really big.
14:33Especially with free-for-all, right?
14:35Yeah, but this was like, you know, a nice 20 minutes or 24 minutes, so that's nice.
14:41Okay, cool.
14:42Yeah, I hope you liked it, and see you guys soon.
14:45Bye.
