00:00The heat's the big story, but we want to keep an eye on the severe risk, and we have four
00:03separate severe thunderstorm watches in effect right now, as issued by the Storm Prediction Center.
00:07And our team here at AccuWeather is also tracking storms in these areas.
00:11We've got Vermont and upstate New York until 11 p.m. under a severe thunderstorm watch.
00:15We've got areas from Atlanta to Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Huntsville until 9 Eastern, 8 Central, and until 10 o'clock
00:22Central Time, northern and central and western parts of Mississippi into northeastern Louisiana.
00:27And then the final watch out here into the western part of the plains, Borgia, Texas to Colby, Kansas.
00:32Dodge City's in there.
00:34That's under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m.
00:36Damaging wind will be the main concern.
00:38Large hail, all concerns up through the northern part of the Midwest.
00:41So that's one big storyline.
00:43Severe threats, we've got damaging wind and hail tonight.
00:46Some of this will carry deep into the night in the upper Midwest.
00:49And as we move forward in time, look out.
00:51We're going to see a lot more action here in the hours to come compared to where we've been.
00:54Then into the day on Thursday, another round of storms in the Dakotas, western Minnesota, upper parts of Iowa.
01:01Then into Friday, look at the noise on the map on July 3rd.
01:04Some of this will bring some cooling relief to the heat wave area, but also more storms into the area
01:10around South Dakota where flash flooding becomes an increasing concern.
01:13Thursday through Thursday night, more severe weather here into Bismarck, Aberdeen Pier, South Dakota, Sioux Falls.
01:19We're looking at damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and hail concerns in these areas Thursday and Thursday night.
01:25It's a moderate risk.
01:25Then Friday, a moderate risk.
01:27That's two out of four on the AccuWeather.
01:29Four-tiered severe threat index around Sioux Falls.
01:31Let's go to Sioux Falls here as it really is the only big city or town within our moderate risk
01:37area.
01:37And you'll notice we don't just have wind and hail, but we also have flash flooding at a moderate risk.
01:42Maybe not specifically in every county around Sioux Falls, but the risk is there because this will be day three
01:47or four in a row of significant downpours nearby.
01:51And look at all the storms on the map on Saturday.
01:53Here we have another moderate risk, Omaha, areas like St. Joseph down to Kansas City.
01:58And here we have so much heat and just off-the-charts amounts of humidity, the moisture content in the
02:06atmosphere extreme.
02:07And there is a moderately strong dip in the jet stream, so that's going to take us to a medium
02:11risk for severe weather Saturday and Saturday night.
