00:00What they did was to cut defence spending.
00:03When they came into power, defence spending was 2.5%.
00:07What did they do? They cut it to 2.3%, a cut.
00:12But on welfare, what did they do? They put it up by £88 billion.
00:16So we'll take no lectures from them about either welfare or defence.
00:20This is £15 billion of new investment for defence,
00:23delivered outside of a budget, outside of a spending review.
00:27We will be able to explain exactly where every penny is coming from,
00:30but we will do that in the budget.
00:33That was the former Health Secretary, then the Chancellor.
00:36When they published their integrated defence review in 2020,
00:39what did they do? They said, the funding at the next spending review.
00:43So let's drop the faux outrage, focus on what matters,
00:46the biggest sustained increase for 40 years,
00:49the biggest increase for 45 years,
00:52providing what is needed to keep the country safe.
