00:00The Customs Department has seized advanced artificial intelligence chips worth 52.9 million ringgit at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
00:10KLIA Customs Director Zulkifle Mohamad said officers discovered 72 server units containing AI chips during an inspection on June 5.
00:22He said the servers were falsely declared as computer components and were meant to be re-exported to another Asian
00:29country without a permit under the Strategic Trade Act.
00:35Authorities confiscated the servers and called in a Malaysian company involved in the shipment to assist investigations.
00:44Zulkifle declined to reveal further details, citing an ongoing probe.
00:50Last year, Malaysia had imposed export controls on high-performance US-origin chips following pressure from Washington to curb flows
00:59to China.
01:01Malaysia had investigated reports last year that a Chinese company in the country was using servers equipped with NVIDIA chips
01:09for AI development,
01:10but found no evidence of illicit trade in advanced semiconductors.
