00:00:13down what you can expect who's going to play we got to marcus beasley the only american man to
00:00:19play in four world cups coming on the show we got questions from a third grader we got a lot
00:00:23to get to on today's show hank is going to join the show a bit later as well
00:00:27it all starts now on fs1
00:00:49what's happening y'all welcome in yeah cars we're going to present a united front today dude usa let's
00:00:55go we're all dressed up ready to roll you a full kit w word over there what a full kit
00:01:01full kit i don't want to say i can't say it full kit full kit w or i don't want
00:01:05to say the w
00:01:06i in case we're broadcasting on british television i would get oh but i just i just noticed the shorts
00:01:13are uh yeah look at yeah look at this dude look at these right here this is my uh this
00:01:19is my father's
00:01:20day gift for my wife it's unbelievable yeah i love it i love it it makes me so happy i
00:01:23can't wait to
00:01:24wear this for the rest of the world cup yeah i still want to get i still want to get
00:01:27a speaking of
00:01:28kits i want to get that also speaking of kits i'm i'm obsessed with norway's kits norway's kits are
00:01:34good i just are unreal i realized i bought i might have purchased the wrong jersey because i got the
00:01:38one that like they printed expecting to put a number right here have a number there i'm supposed
00:01:43to have a number right here because they sell jerseys without numbers where that's completed like
00:01:48that's filled in with the uh i think this might have just been the last one they had available
00:01:52so i was like yeah i'll buy this one i guess i just put whatever number i want but look
00:01:56that's
00:01:56the embodiment of tonight's game next man up you know what i'm saying nameless faceless right do your
00:02:04job pochettino was talking about it look nobody on a yellow is going to play they're going to arrest
00:02:10some other guys we can get into the details but he said the start 11 i put out there tonight
00:02:14i want to i want them to want to eat the grass at sofi i love that's how hungry he
00:02:21wants his team to
00:02:22be tonight despite the fact you've already won the group you're already onto the round of 32
00:02:25i love that eat the grass eat the grass i'll eat the grass i will eat the grass uh also
00:02:30happy
00:02:30birthday to mark tyson oh wow it is oh wow happy birthday mark tyson i didn't know that
00:02:38that's awesome man god you look really hot today too fantastic hair mustache really clean yeah i don't
00:02:46like clean it's all right really really i don't know i don't like it you know you get a haircut
00:02:50then you you know it takes a few days you get used to how you look in the mirror but
00:02:54that's okay
00:02:54i think we're here now i will say i'm curious how you guys feel about tonight's game because
00:02:58uh we are in an unfathomable spot as americans that we have a world cup game where we're saying
00:03:05it doesn't matter yeah that's this is insane that we're here and yet i feel like it still kind of
00:03:11matters it's still like we want to win like we can pretend all we want that like whatever happens
00:03:15tonight doesn't matter and yet if we lose i'll be disappointed and it'll it'll slow down the
00:03:20momentum we have and i i badly want to win tonight and yet i also the rational part of my
00:03:25brain is
00:03:26like we don't need this game it doesn't matter yeah i don't think we're we're not good enough to get
00:03:30into the rest versus rust right like it's it's all rust until proven otherwise yes and so we're not
00:03:35good enough to think because we won two games in a row that we can we can take a week
00:03:38off and then
00:03:39just we'll be able to flip the switch the u.s has never been a flip the switch kind of
00:03:42team like
00:03:43we'll just we'll turn it on when it matters yeah no i mean look i i i think you mentioned
00:03:48momentum
00:03:49and that's like exactly where my head is out like like look at mexico last night right they rest some
00:03:54of their starters the guys that are sitting on yellows it's very similar with uh uh the usa is
00:03:59going to do and but they go out and they win three nil and so now even though they haven't
00:04:04always
00:04:04looked great in these qualifying they have the confidence of a team that's sitting on nine points
00:04:08coming out undefeated home team all the momentum in the world the u.s i think it would be a
00:04:13very
00:04:14good feeling if they could come out and do that to me and look it's a chance to develop some
00:04:18depth
00:04:18get some guys some world cup action that haven't played yet and sort of prove that this this
00:04:25pochettino system really is the evolution of u.s soccer to where it is it there there's there's
00:04:33tactics and strategy and a shape that uh can transcend the player like pft's jersey yeah i'm
00:04:39hoping that we get the uh the matt flynn game for some guy on the u.s men's national team
00:04:43we all
00:04:44remember matt flynn coming in uh for the green bay packers in the last week of the season through six
00:04:49touchdowns gets a million dollar contract that's right lsu legend he's the one that he does he he
00:04:54shout out off the bench my old radio show he's the one that replaced me when i left wow i
00:04:59didn't know
00:04:59that yeah yeah flynn and hester down there the the the boys but yeah yeah let's get uh let's get
00:05:05peppy the matt flynn contract after tonight let's have him get a hat trick so okay so as far as
00:05:10the
00:05:10yellow cards uh right now chris richards anthony robinson tyler adams fuller and balligan they're
00:05:15all sitting on yellows pochettino said look they're not playing there's no point yeah in case you don't
00:05:19know if they were to get another yellow they'd have to miss the round of 32 game and he kind
00:05:23of talked
00:05:24about you know he doesn't want them out there playing like like timmy kind of aware of that fact and
00:05:28because you have these games in hand and you've already moved on okay you can afford that uh he
00:05:33did also mention malik tillman serginio dest and alex freeman as maybe some guys that could benefit
00:05:40from some rest maybe not a full game given how their uh club uh they're the kind of exertion that
00:05:46even the club level coming into this tournament pulisic however i don't think he's going to play 90
00:05:52but i think they want to get him in there you gotta yeah you gotta get you gotta get him
00:05:55in the mix
00:05:56get him running again yeah i'm going yeah i think uh yeah what about tim rehm is he going to
00:06:02get
00:06:02some rest i haven't read anything specifically about pochettino talking about give me some rest
00:06:06give me some rest he's like what 30 38 38 38 yeah 38 year old man like let him let
00:06:12him take a break
00:06:13for a little bit i promise you he'll be fine when he comes back i want to see how much
00:06:17geo is going
00:06:17to play tonight yeah that seems to be the number one in terms of guys that you're interested in
00:06:22watch get out there he's not a 90 minute guy he hasn't been he's been he's been banged up a
00:06:26little
00:06:26bit he's a good like impact sub type of guy uh let's let's just see how long he can play
00:06:31for
00:06:31until he has to put his hand up and be like coach i need one uh what about you tony
00:06:35is there anybody
00:06:36in in in maybe that that hasn't got a lot of run yet or or kind of one of the
00:06:41main elements that
00:06:41you're looking for yeah peppy's the guy it'd be peppy and and and geo like you said um but i
00:06:46agree
00:06:47with you i think geo reina is is perfect for an off the off the bench of shot in the
00:06:51arm type guy
00:06:52yeah so uh i don't know i don't i i don't expect him to play a full 90 but also
00:06:58who we got to put
00:06:59someone out there so i don't i don't know what i don't know what the lineup is going to look
00:07:02like
00:07:02tonight i'm fascinated by that but i also like i said earlier that i do think that this is a
00:07:06very
00:07:06important game not just for momentum in this world cup but i think like we've talked off air about
00:07:10it maybe with some of the guys we're having on today we'll talk to them about this hosting the world
00:07:14cup was such a massive deal in 1994 for soccer in the sport it launched the mls at all like
00:07:20soccer didn't exist in america before we hosted the world cup basically and then you know it's been a
00:07:24slow burn to get to where we're at now i do think i mean i'm overstating it a little bit
00:07:29but i do think
00:07:30that like winning tonight sweeping your group yeah makes a big difference in like the perception that
00:07:36the general casual fan has towards united states soccer i don't think it's going to make like all the
00:07:41difference in the world but i do think it's like an easier sell to the public that's like
00:07:44not to the hanks of the world yes the haters to be like listen i know you think that america
00:07:49sucks
00:07:49at soccer we we swept our group we dominated uh you know and there's a european team that we beat
00:07:55there's you know there's i mean we won two in a row for the first time since 1930 yeah and
00:08:00that's a
00:08:01tournament that in a lot of ways was just like we were able to do so well and because we
00:08:05could
00:08:05afford to travel uh across the atlantic and even get to the tournament so like yes winning three in a
00:08:10row i think i think it's a big deal and like trying to build like a soccer culture in this
00:08:14country if we win tonight um but at the end of the day it is you know like the rational
00:08:18part of my
00:08:19brain is like we we can afford to lose this there are some uh there's some vultures that are circling
00:08:23overhead oh yeah that it just waiting to swoop down at one sign of weakness like like mark said
00:08:28the hanks of the world you have one loss in the group stage when you're playing your backups you're
00:08:32like oh i thought we're supposed to be the best in the world in soccer right now the haters in
00:08:36the
00:08:36united states are they're they're perfectly delicately crafting their little straw men
00:08:40yep and they're like okay oh i heard somebody be optimistic that means that we're going to win
00:08:43the world cup oh i heard somebody celebrate a win against australia that means that our our our uh
00:08:48defense is the best in the world because we only conceded one goal and had a clean sheet against
00:08:52australia like they're making the straw man ready to destroy it we just have to give them uh no like
00:08:59baseball no room to breathe we gotta give them no bats no weapons to attack the straw man sounds like
00:09:03we're talking about tim howard step on their throat yeah okay yeah bad guy not a good guy
00:09:08i'll say well well let's let's play it can we can we go ahead and i know well i know
00:09:13we got a
00:09:13label just do it now maybe just reference it let's just dive in real quick can i just say for
00:09:17the
00:09:17record before we talk about tim like respectfully tim howard yes like really sure all due respect
00:09:23all has the single greatest performance in yeah goalkeeper history sure everything we say from
00:09:29this point forward is under the yeah it's not gonna be respectfully from my end it's fair all
00:09:37right here's tim howard on if the u.s could win the world cup the u.s cannot unequivocally win
00:09:43the
00:09:43world cup the u.s will have to play the greatest game they've ever played three times in a row
00:09:49sorry
00:09:49four games in a row round of 16 quarterfinals okay so uh a man who has has has all the
00:09:58rights
00:09:59and way more right than we will ever that i'll ever have to like make a take right absolutely
00:10:03jerry doesn't agree with that um that said i well first off i i disagree the four times in a
00:10:10row
00:10:10because you're getting bosnia hurts convenia in the round of 32 and with how you like the egypt or
00:10:15something like yeah and then you don't have to play perfect g winner and then and then maybe egypt
00:10:19around yeah so i i don't agree with that but i i guess i'm just a bit surprised that he's
00:10:24not
00:10:25sucked up yeah into the uh the the kind of uh euphoria of it all this all right so so
00:10:31i'll go
00:10:31all due respect first all due respect tim howard maybe the greatest american soccer player of all
00:10:35time um legendary performances in many world cups had a long career overseas this is kind of what tim
00:10:41howard does now he's one of us now he's kind of transformed to media guy he talks about soccer
00:10:46on uh on the bbc talks about soccer on his podcast and he he has to give hot takes but
00:10:52to me this didn't
00:10:53seem like a hot take that this seemed like tim howard thinking like i actually know better than
00:10:58every other american soccer fan out there yeah and it's impossible for us to win first of all
00:11:02all the guys on the team right now they grew up watching tim howard he's a legend to them sure
00:11:06like
00:11:07they they respect they appreciate everything they did we don't need to be hearing that right now from
00:11:10tim howard we just tim just shut up and get behind the united states yeah just laugh
00:11:16yeah it might be next to impossible to beat you know we'll probably end up having to beat some
00:11:21combination of spain argentina uh england maybe uh maybe brazil who knows how it's going to shake
00:11:28out germany down the line and that's gonna be very hard to do it in in one game much less
00:11:32multiple
00:11:32games in a row we all know that but it's not impossible it's not it the unequivocally it is
00:11:38not impossible this is not impossible yeah that's actually that's actually unequivocally true i don't
00:11:42think tim knows what the word impossible means now he can take a victory lap if we end up losing
00:11:46two to one against germany in in the semifinals and be like see i told you yeah i almost said
00:11:51no
00:11:51s word i did not say yeah no duh tim germany's probably better than us okay that you're not
00:11:57going to take a victory lap on i'm i'm preventing you preemptively from taking that victory lap because
00:12:01yes it's going to be hard is it impossible absolutely not unequivocally but there's only
00:12:07one team that can win so i could yeah brazil unequivocally cannot win this world cup i'm gonna say
00:12:12that damn so when brazil does it when i'm gonna i'm gonna look like a genius i don't yeah jerry
00:12:16what do you want to say well i gotta say does does he have a world cup i don't know
00:12:20anything about
00:12:20soccer no no no no the u.s shouldn't be talking you shouldn't be talking you got no idea what
00:12:25it
00:12:25takes that's true yeah so he shouldn't be talking that's number one this is all due disrespect by the
00:12:30way uh just the most un-american thing you could possibly do and listen hand up i'm i'm i'm rooting
00:12:37for america at the same time rooting for columbia but i will i will say like i'm an american so
00:12:43i
00:12:43would love to see the u.s win this yeah he played for the team correct he did for many
00:12:48years yeah i
00:12:49mean he's our best player so how do you say that so i mean he was a very good goalie
00:12:54for us for a
00:12:54long time he represented like he played overseas in the top leagues okay like without a doubt probably
00:12:59the best goalie in the world at one point but yeah jerry to your point his he's never won a
00:13:04world cup
00:13:05no his claim to fame in the world cup was setting the all-time saves record what's the furthest he
00:13:09got what's the furthest he got uh that would be around 16 lost to belgium it's gonna kill him when
00:13:14they get past and the last memory we have of him was uh trinidad and tobago right wasn't that he
00:13:18was
00:13:18in goal for that game i think he probably i don't know the first i think he was probably yeah
00:13:22i'm pretty
00:13:22sure i mean to be fair there could be like an element of ptsd from howard here because in his
00:13:28like
00:13:28life experience like you said he was maybe the best goalie in the world and was trying to lift this
00:13:33team up with every fiber of his being and was kind of constantly let down yeah i'm gonna give
00:13:38him maybe but maybe like hanging out with landon the like the whole eeyore thing got into him a
00:13:43little bit he's like no we can't do it uh well look i i'm i and and i love those
00:13:48teams those are
00:13:49teams i grew up on i'm really excited to talk to demarcus beasley here in a little bit but coming
00:13:53up
00:13:53next sad day bad day or catastrophe
00:14:01all right welcome back to wake up barcelain we got demarcus beasley coming up next segment but
00:14:05right now it's time to travel around the world of sports and uh honor our guy jersey jerry as we're
00:14:12going to filter these stories through the lens of sad day bad day or catastrophe
00:14:26right we start i mean hilarious to everybody who knows what that video comes from
00:14:32the people that are watching this that just have no idea what that is yeah i i have no idea
00:14:37i mean
00:14:37you're sitting there in the shower go look it up go look up uh jersey jerry catastrophe train
00:14:43uh wait so okay so here we go this is a game you got one dog looking at another dog
00:14:50being hand fed
00:14:52loving life so taken care of this is tough just jealous that dog is turning into the joker
00:14:58destitute that dog is going to end up taking out an entire ballpark one day coming cynical uh this is
00:15:06sad very sad different families is that different families or the same family oh it might be like
00:15:11rich dad poor dad yeah yeah yeah i think it is so i would say this is a sad day
00:15:16in the moment
00:15:18but social media teams for all these uh uh clubs and and professional franchises and whatnot are very
00:15:24smart and apparently the marlins have tracked down the sad dog and they're treating them to a day of
00:15:31royalty at the park oh oh they're gonna make it right they're gonna make it right shout out to the
00:15:36marlins he's gonna end up on top yeah yeah that dog is it's a good dog it's sitting there it's
00:15:42obviously yeah it's going through something right now that dog's gonna get the freddie la seven
00:15:46treatment yeah cj watts on the phone right now let's get this dog to nasa can we send this dog
00:15:53up to
00:15:54the space station all right let's head to the w is freddie going to the white house is that what
00:15:58i
00:15:58said i think he's gonna be the president freddie la seven is gonna run our country yeah uh yeah he's
00:16:04getting hooked up everywhere but he has said no to some stuff dude is that right yeah there's
00:16:08there's been ceos trying to fly him out on private jets and whatnot and he's been saying no he wants
00:16:13to continue to experience the american countryside i remain team freddie i i i i i know it's kind of
00:16:20gone the opposite way all right uh caitlin clark punched in the throat and stepped on
00:16:25by elissa thomas dude look look at this right here dude uh there i don't know that we can call
00:16:32maybe not a punch it was a closed fist shove and then kicked a little bit on the ground uh
00:16:39she also
00:16:39slipped so i don't think she was pushed down i'd like to opt out of all caitlin clark discourse i
00:16:44don't
00:16:44know i think i'm done with the caitlin clark discourse here's she's made everybody lose their
00:16:50minds everything is a sign of one thing or another with her yeah she hasn't won anything can we be
00:16:55honest about caitlin clark she doesn't want anything it's fair we're talking about we're
00:16:59talking about tim howard i'm done with the caitlin clark discourse she doesn't want anything
00:17:05until she i'm opting out but i will say she's kind of a loser until she wins something i'm not
00:17:11going to make anything that happens to her have any impact on like society at large this is a this
00:17:18discussion we have with winners uh-huh stuff happens to winners yeah what does that mean for
00:17:22the country um i you know what i do blame her coach and i blame her teammates a little bit
00:17:27well you should have here's you should have some like charles oakley's on that bench
00:17:30getting up right ready to just jack people up on sophie's role right but here's coach stephanie
00:17:36white on caitlin clark's lack of a whistle and then number two you're coming in here aware of what
00:17:42happened two nights ago and that shit still happens absolutely unacceptable absolutely unacceptable we
00:17:51have a generational talent and a wnba superstar who had two cheap shots right there that weren't called
00:18:01and i just say again absolutely unacceptable
00:18:07i i like the coach standing up for you know her star player like that you got to to kind
00:18:12of get in
00:18:12the refs minds a little bit it remains a bit odd to me the the fact that she isn't more
00:18:17kind of
00:18:17pampered and taken care of especially when you look at how the the the nba works how friendly the
00:18:23whistle would be yeah her teammates didn't say anything i don't know i mean soby cunham generally is
00:18:29the one that is going to fight to to keep her safe but yeah okay maybe i'm with pf it
00:18:34seems like
00:18:34her teammates never have her back yeah i want i want somebody off her bench to come up and just
00:18:39like
00:18:39punch someone in the face every clip i see of her getting like fouled really like nobody does
00:18:43anything nobody comes to her rescue if you want to be the the caitlin clark protector on your team
00:18:48if if there's a role for that just know that that person is going to be rewarded with endless praise
00:18:54on social media yeah endless opportunities for like ad deals and stuff that is a that's a prime
00:18:59spot that is just waiting for somebody grab i know sophie cunningham i've seen tiktok edits of
00:19:04sophie just doing this exact thing you've seen you've seen the edit but if she's going to be that
00:19:08person she's got to be that person every day every day yeah like that's got to be you got to
00:19:12be
00:19:12like i said charles oakley like following her around she goes to the casino you go to the casino
00:19:18uh so here's pca he's been on fire lately and this is a bit odd he gets called out for
00:19:25stealing
00:19:25second uh after a walk is so he was on first yeah so i don't i gotta be i don't
00:19:35fully understand all
00:19:35right so what happened i think was he stole second yeah all four which is fine he could have walked
00:19:40to
00:19:40second base and be fine but then his hand came up off the base as he was in the act
00:19:45of sliding so
00:19:45the second he touches the base the free base sees it well it's not a dead ball on a walk
00:19:52so
00:19:53technically he touched the base and then i guess so somebody was yeah and when he left the base he
00:19:58was tagged yeah so if somebody were to to get walked normally and you walked a second if they
00:20:02step off and get tagged you're out yes oh god never knew that dude yes and so the purists are
00:20:06like
00:20:07it's a black and white rule that's that's one of the the joys of baseball for for the purists for
00:20:11the
00:20:11the people that uh you know love rules would say that this is clear as day is if you're on
00:20:16the base
00:20:16you're safe if you're off the base you're out this isn't there's no middle ground like you watch an
00:20:20nba play and it's like did he initiate contact you know and you got to kind of like suss that
00:20:25out
00:20:25baseball rules are pretty black and white having said that this is insane this is this is actually
00:20:30insane this is insane that this is you know like something needs to be done about this make the
00:20:35bases bigger they're not big enough yet yeah make the bases even bigger i think it's like common
00:20:41sense like i i i love that the umpires in these situations are just like we're powerless man we
00:20:45have no authority yeah that's that's literally their job is like enforce these rules but the rules
00:20:50but the rules are black and white there though we don't need umpires i don't think pca with a couple
00:20:55of very odd base running stories during this run of dominance that he's been on am i wrong to say
00:21:00like this could only happen to pca no this is a pca it's a it's a pca exception to the
00:21:05rule yeah
00:21:06i there should be a rule i i agree to this because like this happens a lot when guys slide
00:21:10into bases
00:21:10they they touch and then they pop up and there's like a a split second that their body's not in
00:21:15contact but that's been happening in baseball for the last 100 years where that's how you slide
00:21:20into a base i don't know if the rule can be like if you're in the act of like you're
00:21:24still going
00:21:24towards the base and the natural act of like following through and standing up that doesn't count if
00:21:29somebody like keeps a hand on you um because i know that there could be some people that swipe
00:21:33at the base and then they come off that should still be an out but that's why i think pop
00:21:37up
00:21:37like that in the same motion i think that should that should count as be still being safe no dude
00:21:41we got carried away with hating refs and um so much that we've taken all the power from them and
00:21:45i
00:21:46know it's insane to say but i kind of want to give them a little bit more power for them
00:21:49to just be
00:21:49like nah listen i know he's off the base but like no i like that yeah no that was stupid
00:21:53he's safe yeah
00:21:54nice try yeah nice try i know i know what you think happened and i know it did happen but
00:21:59i'm still getting with the base yeah uh brian kelly last year when he was coaching lsu he's the
00:22:05winning at winningest active coach in all of college football this season gonna be calling
00:22:11college football games for cbs sports he's gonna be part of a three-man booth called mountain west
00:22:15games good for brian hell yeah good for coach hell yeah got a hundred million dollars from lsu
00:22:22this is fully guaranteed you like you know you love tuning in when you watch guys you're like they
00:22:27just look like they're having a good time together in the booth i think that's that's the epitome of
00:22:31brian that's brian kelly the boys are just gonna be having some fun vibing yeah uh no this is a
00:22:37great look i it's a great thing is it a great thing it's good that coaches that have golden parachutes
00:22:43can get other jobs no no no it's not a great thing i'm trying to i'm trying to decide if
00:22:48i really
00:22:48believe this take because who likes brian kelly at this point so that's that's kind of what i'm wrestling
00:22:52with that's that's what i'm wrestling with is that as a fan just a complete and utter shocking
00:22:59disappointment right yeah i thought he was gonna be several was was was not at all he doesn't even
00:23:05purely interpersonal level working there he was kind of pleasant to work with is all which i know
00:23:12that's against the odd like that's not what a lot of people say i don't know if it's because he
00:23:16had
00:23:16his golden parachute and maybe he had like relaxed from how he used to act in the past maybe he
00:23:21just knew
00:23:22like sucking up the local media was like a good thing to do i i don't know i don't know
00:23:26i'm kind
00:23:27of wrestling in my own head i'm gonna do windy fingers right now now why why would he take a
00:23:31job
00:23:31with a mountain west there's some really good golf in mountain west yeah there's some outstanding
00:23:37golf i think he's just looking forward to spending weeks in these towns and hitting the links there's
00:23:43nothing that the tv booth loves more than the friday afternoon golf rounds yeah after they arrive
00:23:48in town their families are at home yep no one can bug him they gotta you know next day they're
00:23:53prepping for the next day no they're just playing golf we're a couple weeks away from hank announcing
00:23:57that he's calling mountain west yeah i absolutely love that all right demarcus beasley joining the
00:24:03show next more wake up barstool
00:24:14the fifa world cup on fox rolls on the usa has topped the group it's cured their place in the
00:24:20knockout
00:24:21round now they'll look to go three and oh in the group stage for the first time ever they face
00:24:26turkey
00:24:27a tonight coverage begins at 9 p.m eastern only on fox uh again guys it seems like i say
00:24:35it almost
00:24:35daily here but this show affords us so many kind of bucket list interviews talking to heroes that i
00:24:41grew up watching that i never thought i'd get to interview and this man is right there in that crew
00:24:46and that's the u.s legend the only u.s man to ever play in four different world cups hall
00:24:50of favor
00:24:50demarcus beasley demarcus what's up man how we doing this morning i'm good man how you guys doing
00:24:55uh fantastic we're we're we're we're all y'all look y'all look fantastic yeah we're ready to go
00:25:01i see it's game day look at these shorts they're way too short but look you don't have to show
00:25:05your
00:25:05butt on tv every month you got a lot of thigh gold yeah i got my scarf on i'm still
00:25:10not entirely sure
00:25:11what the scarf does or what the purpose of it but i love it it looks great i love putting
00:25:15the scarf
00:25:15i love the old school jersey as well i love oh yeah yeah yeah this is a from your era
00:25:20you know
00:25:20uh okay speaking of kind of your era demarcus and and we get in memories one not but but but
00:25:26i got
00:25:27to ask you about what you've seen out of this u.s side these first uh couple of games because
00:25:33in terms
00:25:34of controlling the game in terms of kind of the form and the attack and what pochettino's put into
00:25:38this team it's it's it's really been two of the more fantastic uh performances that we've ever seen
00:25:45you know this game inside and out what is it about this team that has allowed them to
00:25:52control the game in ways that uh we we haven't seen too often on this stage yeah um first thing
00:25:59i'll say is they've been really impressive i mean we've all been we've all been saying the same thing
00:26:04about about this group and just watching them play and seeing how together they are on obviously off the
00:26:10field as well but i think if i had to pick one thing that i'm really enjoying not so much
00:26:16it
00:26:16surprised me how they're playing but their ability to win the ball back as quickly as possible in the
00:26:23defensive half is is is incredible and not a lot of teams can do that and they can do it
00:26:28at a high
00:26:28level but the u.s team in both matches against uh paraguay and and australia they've done that
00:26:34incredibly well so i think if i had to pick out one thing because look we all know how talented
00:26:38they
00:26:39are attacking wise we can go into they haven't really been um they haven't had too much struggle
00:26:45in the in the defensive end as of yet but i'll tell you that part of the that part of
00:26:51the field
00:26:51when they're winning the ball and they're on the front foot and winning the ball back at a very very
00:26:56high level and the the defenders defenders have that has been really impressive for me well and and
00:27:01it's been demoralizing for the opponent but my question to you to follow up on that is is that
00:27:05talent based or is that scheme based no that's that's all mentality man that is all mentality
00:27:10because you you can't teach you know effort you know no coach in any sport can teach effort and
00:27:16that's all about effort wanting to win the mentality that pochettino has has given this squad and you
00:27:22know to be honest we haven't seen that in the last year and a half you know there's been they've
00:27:25been
00:27:25up and down it's been a roller coaster you know throughout these last couple years uh before
00:27:30pochettino took over the group and now with him so now in the world cup we are seeing uh not
00:27:36just
00:27:36how talented they are going forward but the mentality the the effort the uh when you talk about
00:27:44winning world cup matches and what it takes to win matches you have to win ugly sometimes and
00:27:48they're willing to do the dirty work and that's really really uh great to see yeah demarcus i was a
00:27:53big fan of yours watched you for for decades it feels like playing playing for this side um how much
00:27:59fun
00:27:59would you have had playing in this system given your strengths and being like that wing back that
00:28:04making the overlapping runs the outside this feels like it would be a tailor-made system for you
00:28:08yeah man i'm jealous i i hear stew holding saying that all the time and i'm i agree um being
00:28:14able to
00:28:15play in a world cup on home soil for one is something that we all we all dreamed about and
00:28:20you
00:28:20know we never thought it would happen so for these guys to be able to play in front of their
00:28:24family and
00:28:24friends uh and in front of the american fans is is truly remarkable but then playing in his system
00:28:31man um for me because i like i like both sides of the ball to be honest you know i
00:28:36started my career
00:28:37uh playing in the midfield playing a winger but then obviously towards the end of my career uh playing
00:28:42left back and kind of that wing back especially when i was in uh mexico with puebla but uh yeah
00:28:47uh just
00:28:47seeing anthony robinson and serginio des and and those and those roles and how they get up and get
00:28:53and uh get up and get back being able to have the freedom to go forward uh be an attacking
00:28:58threat
00:28:58especially on the left side or even the right side uh yeah i would have loved to play in his
00:29:03system and
00:29:04you know i've been fortunate to be able to speak to pochettino one to be one um sometimes in the
00:29:11friendly matches and i would love to have played for pochettino he's a he's a great person a great
00:29:16coach a great manager and i think he has the boys right where he wants them yeah you can't say
00:29:21that
00:29:21word though you can't say the f word pochettino no more no more friendly we don't use the
00:29:27word yeah they'll get you for that um but yeah it's been it's been so much fun watching this team
00:29:32i really do think that on it from what we've seen so far granted it's it has not been against
00:29:36you know a top 10 team in the world just yet but what we've seen it seems like that style
00:29:42of play
00:29:42should carry on and should transfer i feel like we could beat or be competitive with any team in
00:29:48the world on any given day uh not to say that we can do it back to back to back
00:29:53necessarily with
00:29:54confidence but i do think that this team and this style of play and this coaching staff i feel like
00:29:59we could potentially beat any team given the day do you do you agree or do you think that's that's
00:30:04crazy for me to say that no no 100 agree i think the way the team has been playing uh
00:30:10we can
00:30:11compete with anybody in the world uh at this world cup and i don't say that i don't say that
00:30:16lightly
00:30:16i mean we've all seen brazil germany spain all the big boys france all the teams that are arguably the
00:30:25the favorites to win the world cup and you look at that against our our team and our squad and
00:30:30how
00:30:30we've been playing i think we can compete with all those teams now you just said you hit the nail
00:30:35on
00:30:35the head can we do that back to back to back because that's what it's going to take for for
00:30:40the u.s team to
00:30:41to win the world cup and and do well and go far and go far so it remains to be
00:30:45seen i think that
00:30:47the team is playing really well um i think that we can surprise a lot of people but at the
00:30:54same time
00:30:54i think we've opened a lot of eyes in this in this in this world cup because i don't think
00:31:01a lot of
00:31:01countries thought that we were going to be uh playing as well you know right off the gate so
00:31:07right out the gate so i'm excited to see how what this team can do but yeah we can compete
00:31:11with
00:31:11anybody yeah brains of france brazil we can compete with anybody but the thing is can we do that three
00:31:17times in a row and that remains to be seen piggybacking on what you just said about opening
00:31:21up eyes we were talking earlier about like 94 world cup was kind of the introduction to a lot of
00:31:27americans of soccer like like mls you got i see you got the mls polo on the mls exists basically
00:31:32because of the 94 world cup you know and so my question to you demarcus is what is what will
00:31:37it
00:31:37take moving forward for this team like how much success does this team need to have a similar type
00:31:43feeling where like you feel like soccer in this country takes like a massive jump forward uh kind
00:31:48of like what happened in 94 yeah it's a good question man um i think we're on the right path
00:31:53i think a lot of it depends on the results of this of this group and right now you got
00:32:00the whole
00:32:00the whole country buzzing you got the whole country on on on the team's back supporting
00:32:05loving what they're doing um you see some of the some of the uh this the the um the things
00:32:12they're
00:32:12doing off the field as well you kind of get a sense of the players their personality and their
00:32:16characters and how they are and how they operate as well but then when you get to the games you
00:32:21see
00:32:21how much how much they care and how much um you know passion they have for the sport for the
00:32:26for
00:32:27their country for our country and it's great uh but i i do think that we we have to have
00:32:34we have to
00:32:35keep this momentum going we have to we have to do well we have to get obviously we've made um
00:32:41to the
00:32:41round of 13 sorry 32 now can we get to the quarterfinals now can we get to the semifinals and
00:32:46i think
00:32:47if we can do that i think we'll get not saying not so much bandwagon fans but i think we'll
00:32:53get some
00:32:53fans that really stick around and help this this sport grow in this country well and and and i want
00:32:57to get into kind of your impact on helping this sport grow and watching these players nowadays but
00:33:03uh when you're talking about tonight's match against turkey a again no functional stakes in terms of
00:33:10seeding or anything like that but we keep talking about things like momentum and the fact that
00:33:14you're garnering eyeballs uh how do you approach the strategy for tonight obviously nobody in yellow is
00:33:20going to play but like how important do you believe this match to be despite the fact that it's not
00:33:25going to determine anything in the group standings yeah man every every game is important in a world
00:33:30cup and you always want to put your best foot forward you always want to especially now they've
00:33:35gotten two two two matches two wins so you want to keep that confidence high throughout the whole group
00:33:39not just the the players that have played the the last two matches so look i i'm i'm sitting here
00:33:45talking to you guys because i'm not a coach but but my i mean my two cents my opinion i
00:33:50i would change
00:33:51the whole the whole squad um except maybe the goalkeeper i think matt free should should stay
00:33:57um you know changing your goalkeeper is is is a tough one uh in my opinion those are things or
00:34:04questions you can ask you know some of the more experienced uh goalkeepers um for that one but
00:34:10field players i think you should change everyone and i know people are going to talk about christian
00:34:15and you know how how he should be used if he's fit if he's not fit i think if he's
00:34:20100 fit uh he has
00:34:22to play some part yeah again uh if that plan i'm 45 from the start i don't know what that
00:34:28looks like
00:34:28because we don't know from uh the camp inside the camping what what how much he's done from the
00:34:34training side of things but if he comes on for 20 30 minutes at the end of the end of
00:34:38the match
00:34:39regardless if we're winning if we're losing i think that's a huge boost for the for the group
00:34:44and you know and and for the fans you know everybody wants to see christian play and yeah
00:34:49we we want to see him play we want to see him back we want to see him healthy but
00:34:52he only plays if he's
00:34:54100 fit and there's no risk uh risk of him getting injured again but in my opinion you don't risk
00:35:01you
00:35:01change everybody because and i think landon made this point maybe a couple days ago i mean if you if
00:35:08god forbid someone gets injured and some of the players that haven't played i mean they haven't
00:35:13probably played a match since the it's a good point we say friendly match but the game the send
00:35:18off games in the beginning of june beginning of this month they wouldn't they wouldn't have played
00:35:22so you need to get them some rhythm some game some confidence as well so i think that that's a
00:35:27good
00:35:28point that to make as well so if it was my if it was me and uh i was a
00:35:33coach which i'm not but
00:35:35yeah i would change all 10 field players for sure i i tend to agree with you and as a
00:35:39former goalkeeper
00:35:40myself herndon high school varsity no big deal uh one year i would say make the defense almost as
00:35:49bad as possible get free some touches like we need to we need to get him some practice because we
00:35:54haven't had him he's done nothing back there he made it he made it one good save against australia and
00:36:00he seemed confident coming off his line making having good decision making uh but that's the
00:36:05kind of thing that you you do want him to get more experience at or not experience because he's played
00:36:09a lot of soccer obviously but like okay let me let me ask you this as a goalkeeper don't you
00:36:13want less
00:36:15less action to do yes that means your defense is playing well obviously the whole team is playing
00:36:19well because you start the defensive line with your number nine so everyone as a group is playing well
00:36:25defending well so i would think as a goalkeeper you wouldn't want much to do ideally yeah you're
00:36:31right i like me personally as a goalie i would want to be as lazy as possible and not do
00:36:36anything
00:36:37but ultimately like we're going to play teams that are able to to possess the ball and are attacking
00:36:42third and put together combinations and and and send dangerous crosses across the goal line for me it's
00:36:48less about like facing dangerous shots and like making spectacular diving saves as it is staying in that
00:36:54rhythm of the decision making when to come out when to punch a ball when to catch a ball that
00:36:58sort of
00:36:58thing that's the only thing that you really stay sharp at if you get to experience it under the
00:37:03pressure of live play so i would be i would be fine i agree with you i think that we
00:37:06should rest as many
00:37:07guys as possible and uh because i think they're going to have that same mentality like you talked
00:37:11about earlier when it comes to the counter press and just putting you know endless amount of
00:37:15pressure on the other team they're going to have that mentality that the rest of the guys that are
00:37:19starting have if not more because they're backups and they're like hey we want to prove something out
00:37:22here yeah for sure and you know they they want to play as well you know they even though i
00:37:27think in
00:37:28this group and they're a very close-knit group they want to play you're still competing for a spot
00:37:32you have you have one goal in mind and that is for them is to win the world cup and
00:37:38they're all
00:37:38marching to that same beat but in in those those training days and um when you're in when you're on
00:37:45the on the pitch you want to play as a player it doesn't matter if you're the 24th man 25th
00:37:52man
00:37:52on the roster you want to play so every day you're trying to get pochettino to say you know what
00:37:59this
00:37:59guy needs to this guy needs to be on the field so it's still a competitiveness throughout the squad
00:38:04which it should be because that was that is what makes a better team you have competitiveness
00:38:09inside the squad when you're training so and it should make pochettino's job more difficult
00:38:14you know for him for him to be able to say okay i don't know about this guy these both
00:38:19these guys are
00:38:19playing well who do i go with so you want and i'm sure pochettino wants that problem yep yeah it's
00:38:24a good problem to have um demarcus talk about kind of your impact on this current generation really
00:38:30soccer in the u.s in general but but i mean you got the mls crest on i see the
00:38:34book behind you rise
00:38:35in major league soccer uh when you look around this world cup right now 17 different mls clubs
00:38:40represented 29 active mls players seeing action thus far what kind of impact do you think our
00:38:46domestic league has had on this worldwide tournament thus far huge huge i mean one thing
00:38:52obviously it's in the united states so that brings a lot more eyes um to the league to our league
00:38:58in
00:38:58this country you have arguably and sorry i don't want to say arguably we have the best player that's
00:39:06ever played football in in the history playing in mls and he just turned 39 he's not slowing down
00:39:13and he's the leading scorer in the world cup yeah so um yeah the league i think is it is
00:39:18in a really
00:39:19good place um you've seen and you touched on it before you know how this league has grown from
00:39:24the world cup in 94 um on u.s oil and to kind of springboard and help springboard the league
00:39:32to get
00:39:32it started and now where it is where it is today and you look at the players you look at
00:39:37the clubs you
00:39:38look at the facilities you look at the infrastructure you look at the academies you know that's a big
00:39:43thing that i love about uh mls and some of these players that you know you look at brendan aaronson
00:39:48you know philadelphia academy um same with um mark mckenzie as well trusty they all came from that one
00:39:55that one academy in in philadelphia and now they're on the world stage you know they're all in different
00:39:59clubs and playing in europe but that is what that 94 group that that group and what they did that
00:40:06is what
00:40:07has helped the league grow and getting some of the players you know uh great academy minutes and
00:40:12then hopefully springboarding them and to the national team into the world cup so um it's great
00:40:18man it's great to see you know so many different players in our league getting a chance and getting
00:40:23opportunity to play um at a high level for their country and it just shows you the strengths of mls
00:40:29yep uh demarcus i look we unfortunately we're up against the clock but we got to have you back on
00:40:34we're
00:40:34very u.s heavy obviously game day so much fun but i want to pick your brain about this term
00:40:39as a
00:40:40whole it's been fantastic you've been fantastic again thank you for all the great memories man
00:40:44and uh yeah you have an excellent day hey man you as well enjoy your match tonight uh i can't
00:40:49wait
00:40:49thanks man legend demarcus yeah state of indiana by the way i know 49 states he's just demarcus
00:40:55feasibly yeah all right indiana is just the sports state i think so i love it it's the everything
00:41:03state what's happening y'all welcome back to wake up barstool here on fs1 hank will be joining us in
00:41:09a couple of minutes he's playing the mountain west courses yep all right it's all right now to be
00:41:15i want to be completely fair to hank here because he'll say uh blah blah blah blah a pft was
00:41:20being
00:41:21very mean to me um hank yeah hank did that does sound like he did agree to come on the
00:41:27show this
00:41:28morning almost at the last minute yesterday i texted him i was like hey if you wouldn't mind
00:41:32coming on uh wake up barstool because jerry's leaving and big t's on his honeymoon um hank was
00:41:37like yeah i'll do it and then big cat was like but hank you're supposed to be the fourth in
00:41:41our golf
00:41:41tomorrow morning and hank was like you know what when duty calls i got to show up for work so
00:41:46hank did
00:41:47say no to playing golf this morning let's go to come on the show i feel like that's just as
00:41:51good
00:41:51as him being well you've got to give credit where credit is yeah that was huge hank yeah to do
00:41:55that
00:41:56uh appreciate appreciate thanks so much man yeah uh all right so we we still are going to talk
00:42:01plenty of footy this hour we haven't even gotten to yesterday's action which granted there's not a lot
00:42:08of like like like super big headline news i mean vinnie jr continuing to score for brazil i think is
00:42:14pretty interesting and uh they kind of the early onset soccer withdrawals that i'm already feeling
00:42:19now that the group stage is closing out is maybe something to get to but also right now the nba
00:42:25has
00:42:25taken center stage a couple of blockbuster trades that i want to dive into and we have the number one
00:42:32washington wizards fan on any major television show so we got to get wizarded here in a second
00:42:38before that though janice goes to the heat um this is a deal where many have kind of been like
00:42:46well i
00:42:46don't understand what the point for the heat is somewhat but then we're still talking about how
00:42:50good the price was titus where do you fall on uh the fallout from the honest trade i think if
00:42:56the
00:42:57heat are done which they can't be done because they have like four players on the roster right now yeah
00:43:00but uh as it stands right now i'm not excited yet like it is a blockbuster trade but it's like
00:43:05i don't
00:43:05think this shakes up the east in any way shape or form but you know assuming the heat are gonna
00:43:10make
00:43:10some moves and add some pieces um yeah janice is is a top what's the what do you want to
00:43:15say five
00:43:16maybe maybe better than that like i think yeah five is five feels five feels right player in the nba
00:43:21um and and the heat are a great organization it's funny that like i trust the heat so much
00:43:26and i'm not really sure why maybe it is just because eric spolster and pat riley have
00:43:30have proven that they can win championships um but yeah like if if yannis if this exact same
00:43:35trade happened and yannis was like going to the clippers or going to the nets i'd be like okay
00:43:38so i'll never hear from yannis again like this this feels like a move that you've seen where like
00:43:42the nets load up on a superstar like this or the clip but for some reason i trust the heat
00:43:46even
00:43:47though right now you look at their roster and you're like that's just not enough well i mean you look
00:43:51at like i mean i think about like like max streus duncan robinson like uh maybe i don't know if
00:43:57you
00:43:57thought tyler hero in that grouping or not but it it does seem like because of heat culture which i
00:44:03think
00:44:03sometimes get overblown like they have found a way of developing guys and finding role players
00:44:10that far exceed uh their performance exceeds expectation right so like that's i think where
00:44:14that hope comes from yeah is that now you've got the superstar and you're kind of banking on spolster
00:44:19and riley being able to fill in uh pieces that may not have a lot of name recognition but can
00:44:24make
00:44:24this team better and and and let's be honest sort of this isn't like an immediate thing like this year
00:44:30they're not going to win the championship yeah they're they're not going to be there this year
00:44:33but yeah i mean i would i would be hesitant to bet against the miami heat like three years from
00:44:39now
00:44:39you know like i trust that they're going to figure out a way to to have a contender down there
00:44:44i think
00:44:44ultimately heat culture just means that they have a front office and a team that like actually cares
00:44:50deeply about winning yeah that's really the only thing that they truly care about is winning
00:44:54basketball games and a lot of other teams that yeah they they in theory would like to win but
00:44:58there's other stuff that goes on there too with the heat it's like we want we are a basketball team
00:45:03because we need to win and so they're going to and they know how to also with with spolster and
00:45:07riley they're going to end up putting nice pieces around them but right now they don't have anybody
00:45:10that can shoot what i can i say i find it interesting the narratives of the two conferences
00:45:15that before the nba finals happened and the spurs are playing the thunder it was believed by by many
00:45:20of the the nba experts that that was the de facto nba finals whoever went between spurs thunder because
00:45:26the west is just so much better now that the nicks have won the finals a lot of the takes
00:45:31about yannis going to the heat center around how good the east how good the east is how deep the
00:45:37east
00:45:37is how like let's not forget about the pacers the haliburton oh yeah coming back and the sixers listen
00:45:43i know the sixers are the sixers and the sixers are always gonna you know trip up in the playoffs
00:45:47but they're still a good basketball they got a good roster and the nicks and you know just on and
00:45:50on
00:45:51and the celdics yes like maybe last year they they flamed out but like boy these boston celdics and
00:45:56the pistons are coming and suddenly the wizards are looking good yeah and now all of a sudden like
00:46:00the way people are talking about is like every single team in the east east is too crowded loaded
00:46:04let's just east is too crowded for the hornets either the hornets they're a fun young team magic
00:46:08showed us something in the playoffs this year that we didn't know what was there underneath uh yeah
00:46:13no that's a it's a good point by mark tice watch out for the for the east uh watch out
00:46:17for the
00:46:18wizards how about it trey young signing the deal yeah all the all the hand wringing over oh why is
00:46:23he opting out you were right he was he was he was committed to dc long term i just like
00:46:27the same
00:46:28people that were very upset about trey young opting out to have that same energy now that
00:46:32trey young has come back be like oh thank god he's back instead i've noticed that a lot of those
00:46:37same
00:46:37people are like oh well you wouldn't overpay you overpaid for trey young just like two days ago
00:46:42you were like you were like ah ha ha trey young left what a clown franchise ah keep that same
00:46:47energy
00:46:47that's all i'm saying now trey young locked in anthony davis when you got him yeah he's still
00:46:53great if healthy you get like half a season maybe but he's great when he's out there and now you
00:46:59add
00:46:59aj number one overall pick i mean pft how are we feeling dude i put the young core up against
00:47:04anyone's
00:47:05young core are you even even charlotte i mean you just mentioned our young core our young core is
00:47:09better than anyone's young core people are forgetting are you putting ad in the young core they're
00:47:14forget yeah he's in the young core is it like with the amount of minutes that he's played recently
00:47:18oh yeah yeah okay yeah fresh legs his body is is younger than you think it would be uh i
00:47:24i love our
00:47:24young core and i think that we finally have something that resembles like an actually well
00:47:28constructed basketball team when you look at our bench we've got nice uh people coming off the bench
00:47:32too will riley we got trey johnson there he is hang just in time we're talking about the wizards
00:47:38oh nice yeah okay yeah yeah yeah look if nothing else it's exciting to be a wizards fan and that's
00:47:46that's even a win yeah like regardless of what ends up happening you have an off season now where
00:47:50you can actually like talk about things and think about things and be happy about them the wizards
00:47:55will be relevant i don't know if they'll be good but they will be a team that i think will
00:47:58be talked
00:47:59about in some capacity yeah next season that's more than you could say for well i mean look you know
00:48:04now
00:48:05for a long time you put me in the awkward position of being jealous of the wizards which is just
00:48:10a
00:48:10place that nobody wants to be as a pelicans fan it's where i find myself it's truly shocking uh from
00:48:16one end of the spectrum to the other though hank the celtics yes jalen brown yes disaster no what's
00:48:24going on dude brad steven's like no we didn't really want to trade you are we cool are we not
00:48:28what are
00:48:28they going to do with jalen brown i think they're going to keep jalen brown uh i think you know
00:48:32people
00:48:32are saying that they brad stevens and jalen brown are on the same page and they basically
00:48:38used him as bait to have the heat give up everything to tank the heat ah so they were both
00:48:45in on it the
00:48:45whole time now hey what does i what does i love cats mean that's what jalen tweeted out yesterday
00:48:50i think he's a big fan of cats he just likes cats some guys some guys are dogs some guys
00:48:54are cats
00:48:55the the musical i think just the animal no the live action movie not actually yeah the live
00:49:01action movie so um so jalen brown he was this is all part of the plan yeah which has worked
00:49:06perfectly
00:49:07they didn't want to upset deuce who just wants to go get ice queen is that is that the belief
00:49:13young kids that's all you see that fan fiction yeah you see you saw the tweet yeah the fan fiction
00:49:18the fan fiction of like what it's going to be like when they have to tell deuce yeah that jalen
00:49:23brown
00:49:23has been traded it's one of my favorite probably the worst tweet of all time one of my favorite
00:49:26things i've ever read on the internet yeah it was good but yeah congratulations hank the uh we're
00:49:30just talking about how loaded the east is yeah it's gonna be a fun year hmm sure will sure will
00:49:37so you okay just let's go to break uh look at this though now that now that hank has the
00:49:44jersey on
00:49:45we are to a man looking ready for tonight's game coming up next questions from a third grader
00:49:50so jalen brown staying in boston you heard of your first probably gonna trade later today
00:49:56more wake up barcelona on the other side
00:50:00welcome back to wake up barcelona on fs1 it's game day everybody's kitted up ready to go but right now
00:50:08it's time to tap in with the youth the kids pft keeps a stable of well-fed and taken care
00:50:16of
00:50:16children that love sports and every single week they write us questions what do the third graders
00:50:22have for us today pft handwritten notes let's see question number one uh this is from jalen in
00:50:27roxbury massachusetts i told my girlfriend i was breaking up with her and she said good
00:50:32i want to break up with you too do you think we should get back together oh that's a good
00:50:36point
00:50:37that's a good question from jalen um it actually kind of reminds me of the jalen brown story a little
00:50:42not related going on with the celtics right hank what do you think what do you think jalen should
00:50:46do they both want to break up i think they should get back together listen sometimes it takes
00:50:49getting to the edge to realize like you don't want to go over the edge you want to stay where
00:50:54you are
00:50:54and and you know that the trade rumors i think is just going to make the celtics a stronger team
00:50:58again i think uh it's about third grader oh right right right right right right i think it's
00:51:04going to make it a stronger relationship okay okay i think seeing like thinking about the
00:51:09possibilities of being broken up maybe it's good in your mind but once you get like oh i'm going to
00:51:14be single and i'm not to do this with someone else i'd much rather do with you we can work
00:51:19through
00:51:19this we're going to get stronger and we're going to get i'm going to give you more rings that's what
00:51:23that's that's what that's what's going to come from this really maybe you see some people out there
00:51:27that are currently playing the field and you're like that doesn't look so great being single yeah i
00:51:32don't want to be with them i want to be but what is you what if what if you don't
00:51:36have to be
00:51:36single what if you could break up and find excuse me like someone better immediately yeah like or i
00:51:42don't think there's anything better out there i don't know i don't know i don't know what the
00:51:44options jalen this jalen is working with um what if you get yeah you think you think edging is the
00:51:51key to a solid relationship yeah getting out there to the edge is what hank said yeah
00:51:56interesting at the edge yeah i always thought i i thought that might be kind of a flaw in the
00:52:01real
00:52:01i don't know look at the abyss just stare into the abyss and and and think about how bad it
00:52:05could be
00:52:06you know what hank wise people say if you love something set it free
00:52:11if it comes back then it was always meant to be if it doesn't then it ever was right it's
00:52:16true
00:52:17and i think jalen is he wanted it again actually i think they should just release him yeah
00:52:25where he wants to go yep well i'll be yeah i'll be look i i'll be in order to see
00:52:29if they end up
00:52:30getting back together and who knows what happens to jalen brown i don't know keep us posted jill
00:52:34uh okay what do we got next here next up uh dear oh this is a question for the commanders
00:52:40dear
00:52:40commanders i don't pass a single day without loving you i don't pass a single night without
00:52:45clasping you in my arms from brandon from santa clara california this sounds like it might be from
00:52:52brandon iuke bigger commanders fan than you apparently i think the biggest i think he's
00:52:57obsessed with the command what do you say best league in the world best sport in the world best
00:53:01team in the world like chill out chill out dude like i used to think that i wanted brandon iuke
00:53:06on the commanders he's love bombing us this is a red flag major red flag this is not going to
00:53:12be a
00:53:12good relationship like he's you're coming on too strong brandon uh just chill out just chill out
00:53:16for a second we don't want to be homewreckers hey are they gonna like are are the niners what have
00:53:22they said is there any chance that they release him to just be rid of this or are they just
00:53:25gonna
00:53:26maintain his contract so he can't go help anybody else i don't think that they have to do
00:53:29anything that's the thing is like i think i think brandon iuke is is running an nba playbook
00:53:35in the nfl and you don't have the same leverage you don't have the pad at all uh but yeah
00:53:42this is
00:53:43i went from at the start of the summer being like or you know even last year in the fall
00:53:47being like
00:53:47this is crazy brandon iuke is a really good player and he he's like outwardly dropping hints that he
00:53:52wants to be on the commanders to this offseason it's like it's too much it's like him taking pictures
00:53:58of himself wearing commander's gear like dropping pins on maps in front royal virginia
00:54:04it it's too much like i i do feel like you're the girl at the bar and there's there's a
00:54:09creep
00:54:09sitting next to you coming on too strong i got a question that pft can't answer it's for you too
00:54:14why why does he love the commander so much i was actually that was my question as well
00:54:18i have no idea why jayden daniels probably jayden daniels right i mean it is yeah they play they
00:54:26played together for like a year at arizona state oh that's that's they just just loves their snack
00:54:33yeah just loves the kid i don't know i think uh yeah i don't know maybe like brandon if you
00:54:40really
00:54:40want to end up there to pft's point maybe just neg him a little bit yeah you know it's time
00:54:44to make
00:54:44them feel a bit insecure unsure of their worth yeah then then maybe you're going to bring washington
00:54:49back into the fold a bit how in all seriousness nobody has messed up a bag maybe outside of like
00:54:54mel tucker worse than brandon iuke has here how close is brandon iuke to uh antonio brown yeah yeah
00:55:02like on the on the diva scale on the crazy crazy scale because that video yesterday was that's that
00:55:08was the first time i was like oh he this this is reminding me of like peak peak crazy antonio
00:55:13brown
00:55:13i don't i don't want to make like any judgments about uh mental health but i will say that it
00:55:18is
00:55:18it's concerning i am i'm i'm a concerned fan yeah anyone that doesn't show up to work and
00:55:26like and it's getting paid a lot of money to do so it should could should concern you
00:55:29avoided nearly like 30 million dollars last year like you you could you could even like go and join
00:55:36the team fake an injury give zero effort but you would at least be checking the boxes to get paid
00:55:4230 million bucks yes it's and yesterday's video reminds me a lot of antonio brown when he got
00:55:46the call that he was being released and then he runs all around the hot air balloon into training camp
00:55:51yeah i mean you see some similarities there i just think that the uh the gm of uh the commanders
00:55:56adam
00:55:56peters he comes from san francisco if anybody's got great information about this situation it's probably
00:56:03him so i i highly doubt that we're ever going to sign brandon iuke and then i'm worried about like
00:56:08what he's going to do to us when we reject his advances do you want to sign brandon iuke no
00:56:15not at all like i'm telling you this offseason has been like it's it's too much there's this is
00:56:21making me uncomfortable good place to be though you know when you can just pass up on iuke even
00:56:26though the nfc east is going to be absolutely insane i'm looking at stefan diggs and i'm like i just
00:56:31need a stable relationship come on come on stefan uh all right who's this from kaden this is yeah
00:56:39uh kaden from durham north carolina uh my identical twin just got drafted and i went back to college
00:56:46should we trade uniforms every few nights so i can get some reps under my belt in the nba
00:56:50and he can keep our team competitive in the acc oh this is a this is a great idea from
00:56:55kaden from
00:56:55durham uh whoever his identical twin might be that just got drafted um my dumb ass thought that
00:57:01kaden was declared for the draft also so i kept like refreshing seeing where he was waiting for him
00:57:06to get drafted yeah he'll be there soon yeah yeah soon he's got he's got unfinished business yeah that's
00:57:11true uh i don't know did you see the way duke's season ended i did i did yeah it was
00:57:17tough do you
00:57:18think that um you think they get caught if they tried to do this would anybody notice yeah okay
00:57:24that's a the one the one brother that's like five inches shorter yeah that's like the morris twins
00:57:30might have been able to pull this off like there's there's some twins where that's close enough but
00:57:34they're they're twins just by name i have a question about cam boozer i saw that he is going to
00:57:40be
00:57:40wearing number 27 for the memphis grizzlies cam boozer is a guy who i believe is the most nba ready
00:57:46prospect like he's he's the most like finished product that of all the like top guys in this draft
00:57:52you know exactly what you're going to get out of him i love the idea of him in the nba
00:57:56the second i
00:57:57saw he was going to wear number 27 i was like i'm out on him yeah i was out on
00:58:00him i think he's
00:58:01going to wear 27 for the grizzlies yeah it doesn't feel like uh that doesn't feel like a build your
00:58:07franchise around this guy i think the number seven itself is a good basketball number any other number
00:58:11like 17 27 37 they're just not basketball lucas 77 just yeah 77 77 that's a double seven 77 is
00:58:20clean
00:58:20yeah it's like a slot machine uh 47 when carolinko ak 47 was a pretty cool nickname but yeah i
00:58:27uh i don't
00:58:28yeah i agree with you mark i don't think that 27 everything i thought i knew about cam boozer in
00:58:32a
00:58:32way when i saw you who is the best 27 we've ever seen mike trout football player okay 27 completely
00:58:39irrelevant carlton fisk i'm going to say i'm out on mike trout ever talking about anything mike
00:58:45trout because he hasn't won a championship yeah he hasn't won a championship i'm never until he
00:58:50proves he can win i'm not talking about mike trout opting out of the disc oh eddie george okay
00:58:54eddie george there's a good there's a good 27 was it was arian 27 you should arian might have been
00:58:5927 at some point uh i'll say arian foster he probably wore that jersey number at some point
00:59:06uh vlad guerrero senior i think arian foster was 23 i'm hearing um all right thank you third
00:59:10graders and yeah maybe the boozers should should try this out i can i just say something i'm gonna
00:59:15be sad we're gonna lose these kids uh we're gonna get a new crop next year it's it's summertime you
00:59:19know yeah all these so thank you to all the third graders i wrote oh because they're gonna be in
00:59:22fourth grade they're gonna be in fourth grade t-box yeah good luck yeah what do you so i i
00:59:25i'm sad we're
00:59:26gonna lose these guys do you do you just let them go back to their families absolutely they're free to
00:59:31go
00:59:31they've served their they've served their time honorably what's the recruitment process on
00:59:35second graders like have you been scouting them out i do not scout i do not take part and i
00:59:39think
00:59:39they they all opt in see i don't know i mean it seems like they all they want to watch
00:59:43sports and
00:59:44they want to opt in and they want to ask questions about sports so uh parents if you're out there
00:59:48listening you have a rising third grader uh you want to put them in a boarding school of sorts get
00:59:53in
00:59:53touch and wake up barstool hashtag ask wub on twitter they ask really good questions yeah this class is
00:59:57gonna be hard to beat i'll say that it's been a great class yeah we're gonna miss them just like
01:00:01eddie's gonna miss this most recent crop of duke boys uh they were a good group of boys too uh
01:00:07okay
01:00:07we got a couple new contracts that i want to ask you all about and in different sports and and
01:00:11talk
01:00:11about what if they're worth it one of my absolute favorite players to talk about who actually all jokes
01:00:17aside ended up being pretty damn good last year kyle pitts of the atlanta falcons three years
01:00:2654 million dollars to stay as an atlanta falcon also i'm heard that we have breaking news we're
01:00:31about to get to oh oh hey hey we got wait is that true guy this is true hey to
01:00:36the breaking moves
01:00:43okay this is actually kind of crazy guys yeah lamello ball to the tea wolves oh lamello ball
01:00:50leaving the hornet whoa nas reed to get get do we do i guess we don't have a graphic made
01:00:56yet
01:00:56and a bunch of pigs will get there lamello ball wait what i i don't how can we not have
01:01:01a lamello
01:01:02ball traded to the timberwolves crack we have to we have to have that prepared just in case that's
01:01:06absurd we're supposed to be this is supposed to be world-class live television i don't know that
01:01:11i know how to process this i thought we were just talking about the hornets and how young
01:01:16they came online dude and like are the team blew it up are the team blowing it up or not
01:01:23is my
01:01:23question we don't know i don't really know they get rid of julius randall you're bringing in lamello
01:01:27ball who is talented there's no question but also he's lamello ball and i i don't know i i genuinely
01:01:34have no idea what their thought process is do you make this move if dante does not tear his acl
01:01:39last
01:01:40year achilles was it achilles or achilles yeah um yeah i mean i guess the timber the timberwolves
01:01:47have been like in a position where they are ostensibly i don't know if that's the right word
01:01:51but it just felt right uh they are a team that can win the championship it feels like that feels
01:01:56like
01:01:56every every fun uh every playoff and they just keep hitting the brick wall and they're not getting
01:02:00over the hump so i guess they're just at a point where they're like we have to do something
01:02:03if there's a guy shake it up in some way yeah if there's a guy that will prevent you from
01:02:08driving
01:02:08straight into brick walls it's yeah the melo the melo gotcha um i do think they're getting rid of all
01:02:14their size too like no no it feels like nas reed is the better fit for kind of anthony edwards
01:02:21and
01:02:21they were all excited right like moving into the starting lineup they already kind of had this
01:02:24thought like getting rid of towns for randall are they gonna get rid of randall they already did
01:02:29yeah i mean uh are they gonna get rid of edwards i don't know if they're truly committed to blowing
01:02:34it up but i don't i don't think like they're not there's only one there's only one ball yeah but
01:02:39you bring lamello in well now there's two there's a ball in and lamello but you bring you bring lamello
01:02:43in to try to show your fans that you're trying to get over the hump but yeah i just how
01:02:50do him
01:02:51and anthony edwards pair together i i have a i'm gonna do double wendy's first time ever double wendy's
01:02:58a-rod is involved heavily with the uh with the timberwolves right now that's right yeah this
01:03:03feels like a-rod like you know what the kids want and what the kids want to see they want
01:03:08to see
01:03:08balls let's sell some jerseys guys i don't i don't think so you don't think you don't think a-rod
01:03:14you think a-rod watched like four tiktoks he is a percentage owner but i don't think it's a
01:03:19percentage enough to heavily influence that's why i did the windy fingers because you never because
01:03:25let's let's just you never know he is we're talking about this though from the timberwolves
01:03:29perspective right because like they're the more playoff as mark said they've kind of been knocking
01:03:32on the door here but i i really all the momentum with the hornets was that they were so excited
01:03:38about where this team was going build around knipple yeah that's the plan just see uh the
01:03:44mellow ball exchange with nazare to first round pick three four sheesh yeah i mean this this is not
01:03:50the timberwolves are not blowing it up they're they're that's this isn't a blow it up move but this isn't
01:03:54also this also isn't a make them obviously better moves yeah i like nazaree like nazaree is a very
01:04:04important piece for them he's like a great role player that you can have yeah um and so yeah i
01:04:09don't i don't necessarily love it it'll be fun now i think it's just you gotta shake it up you're
01:04:15staring at the snow globe long enough yeah it's like we gotta just kind of shake it and set it
01:04:19back
01:04:19down do you think the hornets get better now with knipple miller nazaree like i don't i i say that
01:04:26maybe lamella balls like too much to deal with yeah i mean respect to lamella balls talent um i don't
01:04:32necessarily think this changes the hornet's trajectory okay in a bad way like i i think
01:04:36they're fine i think i think the trajectory they're on is still good and they should you should still be
01:04:39excited i i do understand like if you're if you're a nine-year-old troublemaker from charlotte
01:04:45you're heartbroken by this because you know if you're a nine-year-old who uh steals his older
01:04:51brother's cigarettes and you know likes to cause mischief in the town you know you're probably
01:04:57heartbroken that you're losing like your favorite player of all time but i don't think this makes
01:05:01the hornets like that much worse to be honest yeah you're right you're absolutely right mark this is
01:05:05a tough day for fourth graders that sprint through the hallways at school yeah that's right really hard
01:05:10day for that but also i think i think this also is good for charlotte as a whole and maybe
01:05:18the east
01:05:18just got better mark the east just the east just keeps getting better yeah it's crazy now if if i
01:05:23just kind of remove any thoughts of like fit and the only one ball thing lamella and anthony edwards
01:05:31is about as powerful of a personality duo yeah as you as you could combine in the nba right like
01:05:38if
01:05:39there's been a lot of nwo talk here in the offices that has sort of a an nwo scott hall
01:05:45kevin nash sort
01:05:46of feel potentially here mcdaniels too well i got i got it that is uh can i just say i
01:05:52got to get my
01:05:52guy conley out of minnesota i mike mike wants year 20 badly i know like if he plays one more
01:05:57season
01:05:57it's year 20 and that's a that's something he wants badly i he can't i we got to get him
01:06:02out of
01:06:02minnesota he's gonna i know but that's the point is like they're gonna turn to him and be like
01:06:08all right you take these two and uh yeah you gotta teach him your ways that he doesn't want
01:06:13that having an old dog and you get two like six month six month old puppies right and you're like
01:06:18okay we i want you to teach him how to be good he doesn't want that he just wants to
01:06:21chill i just
01:06:22want to lay in the sun all day that's all he wants yeah uh the first round pick in this
01:06:26deal is from
01:06:282033 so uh look forward to that uh-huh hornets fans uh you get you can lock in for the
01:06:332033 draft
01:06:34you're gonna have an extra first round pick to play with uh crazy news never would have thought
01:06:39i had no idea this was coming do we have the graphic ready for that yet we gotta get the
01:06:42graph i mean what the hell is connor's incredible on the graphics he'll he'll he'll he'll we need a
01:06:47graphic by the end of the show he'll get there guys we'll get our yeah can we get a uh
01:06:50we need
01:06:51a photoshop of of lamello in a in a t-wolves uniform next to ant all right coming up next
01:06:57we got
01:06:57doug magintyre usmnt insider gonna uh give us some insight into what he's hearing out of camp of
01:07:04pochettino's thinking from a lineup perspective today plenty more to get to here on wake up barstool
01:07:19the fifa world cup continues today on fox ecuador germany at 4 p.m eastern japan sweden at seven
01:07:28in the usa looks to go three and oh in group play against turkey at 10 and it's all today
01:07:34on fox hank what's that thing called above the year umlaut pretty good umlaut yeah the umlaut
01:07:41so look guys uh six more games today happening simultaneously groups being decided it's gonna
01:07:49be all day on fox all day on fs1 it was overwhelmingly fantastic yesterday will be so
01:07:55again today oh another day of footy ahead of us can we do a new segment we have we have
01:08:00hank on the
01:08:00show yeah and he's a big footy fan yeah can we do uh hank sockwood s-o-c-c-w
01:08:07-o-o-d okay so hank soccer
01:08:10thoughts so i'm being told right now we already have doug magintyre on the zoom so hank start to prep
01:08:15your thoughts because coming to be in the show we're going to go to you for some uh hanky sockwood
01:08:20uh football strategy all right i need you to explain marisa pochettino's football guy uh kind of form
01:08:28and and and what formations we can expect tonight and kind of the key behind the success thus far
01:08:33uh but we'll get there we'll get there right now let's welcome back our good friend fox soccer
01:08:38reporter us mnt insider doug mcintyre once again doug great to see you i mean we talked to you before
01:08:45australia everything was so excited and then the boys went out there and and and they built on all of
01:08:52that promise and now we arrive at turkey a a game which you don't have to win but uh take
01:08:58us inside
01:08:59that clubhouse right now how are they approaching this game from a mentality standpoint they don't
01:09:05have to win they don't even have to tie i mean they could lose this they could literally lose this
01:09:09game 50 to nothing and they still won the group so it's a it's a dead rubber game in a
01:09:13world cup
01:09:13which hardly ever happens um but i think what you're going to see is a bunch of the guys a
01:09:20lot of the
01:09:20guys that didn't play some guys that didn't play a minute in the first two games are going to get
01:09:25their opportunity and for those players i'll paraphrase mauricio pochettino he was like this
01:09:31is their world cup final yeah right because like these guys have been waiting their entire lives
01:09:37to play in a world cup it's what you drew every soccer player in the world no matter where you're
01:09:41from dreams about as a kid represent representing your country on the biggest stage there is there's
01:09:4726 players on the roster mauricio pochettino used the same 11 for the first two games with
01:09:53the exception of christian pulisic who started the first game got injured didn't start the second
01:09:56game um you could see up to you know nine changes wouldn't surprise me in this game and there's eight
01:10:03players on the roster that haven't played a minute so this might be the only chance in their lives that
01:10:08they ever get to play in a world cup game um they're gonna you know they're gonna ball out as
01:10:12as best they can um and try to win and it is important to to win to keep that momentum
01:10:19that
01:10:19you guys are talking about going going into the do or die games and that's you know the next one
01:10:24on
01:10:24on excuse me on july 1st so yeah doug give me the names because that that sort of thing like
01:10:31people
01:10:31want to know right like because anybody who's on a yellow is not going to play tonight right and so
01:10:35if you're new to this team everybody that you start to get excited about you're going to see a lot
01:10:39of new names tonight uh who should people be on the lookout for i think you'll see max arfsten
01:10:46come in for uh anthony jedi robinson he's on a yellow card um sebastian berhalter who has played
01:10:52a little bit i think probably comes in for tyler adams who's also on a yellow card i think a
01:10:57lot of
01:10:57u.s fans certainly folks in seattle would love to see christian roldon he's the captain of seattle
01:11:02sounders he hasn't gotten on the field i thought maybe he'd get a few minutes at the end of the
01:11:06last
01:11:06game the crowd would have loved it um but that didn't happen and then he got injured in training
01:11:10this week so you know it's it's unfortunate he was on the last world cup team in 2022 he didn't
01:11:16play a minute in that tournament um and it's really tough guys to be on on two world cup rosters
01:11:20four
01:11:21years apart and not play at all so i'm i'm hoping he's able to play even a little bit in
01:11:26this game i
01:11:27think you'll see some changes at center back as well mark mckenzie um potentially miles robinson because
01:11:32chris richards also on a yellow card um and then we'll see about up top um haji wright came on
01:11:38i
01:11:38think for the final minute in the match against australia uh fuller and balligan who's been the
01:11:43player of the game in each of the first two for the u.s he's the other player on a
01:11:48yellow card he's
01:11:49not going to play pochettino said he's not starting any of these guys it would be crazy to risk playing
01:11:54any of them right because things things can happen and pochettino said it yesterday you can get a
01:11:59yellow card you don't deserve and then you have to sit out you know the game the game that really
01:12:04counts which again is around the 32 so um a lot of different faces but again i don't think the
01:12:09intensity or the way they approach it will be any different than than the main guys did in the first
01:12:13game first two games talk to me about the other side doug because when we had you on to preview
01:12:17the
01:12:17australia game you you were you you hit the nail right on the head uh and talking about australia style
01:12:22that this is going to be a physical game they're going to play rugby that's kind of exactly what we
01:12:25saw
01:12:25uh they were obviously outclassed we're way better than them and and they knew it and so they they got
01:12:30a little dirty are we worried about that with turkey at all that that they are kind of a national
01:12:36embarrassment they were i believe the the thought for them coming into this world cup was they thought
01:12:41they were going to win the group they thought they could beat us yeah and they haven't even scored
01:12:45a goal is that correct they've gone goalless in their first two games are you worried that like
01:12:49we might be in jeopardy of some of their frustrations bubbling over and they're going to take it out on
01:12:54us
01:12:54in some way i i don't think so first of all they're not they're not a super physical team
01:12:59australia is and even paraguay to you know to to a large degree turkey's more of a skillful team they
01:13:05have a guy that plays at real madrid guler they have a guy that plays at juventus yieldis um they
01:13:11didn't play well in the first two games like they they did not play up to their talent level they're
01:13:15a
01:13:16good team again the last time turkey was in a world cup they went to a semi-final um you
01:13:21know back in
01:13:212002 so i think we expected more from them and for whatever reason they just couldn't put it
01:13:26together but there is a danger there because i think with nothing left to play for they're already
01:13:31eliminated you can see their reserves realize a childhood dream and get to play in this game and
01:13:38they can play free and they can also play a little pissed off because they didn't get to start in
01:13:42the
01:13:42first uh the first two matches and they're going to want to show their friends their family
01:13:47their coach that didn't play them um what they're all about that they're a good team and they want
01:13:52to try to leave the tournament with something so it's a it's a really it's sometimes it's a tricky
01:13:56thing playing a team that has nothing to play for i mean they they really don't they're going home
01:14:01no matter what the u.s is preparing for another game um so i think that's where the danger lies
01:14:06with
01:14:06this this team from turkey so with a pulisic injury right now if there was a meaningful game this
01:14:11week is he 100 like would he start yes that's good to hear okay now do you think they should
01:14:18play him at all tonight under the idea of like get him you know some conditioning keep him in shape
01:14:23let him just get out there and run around for a little bit and stay locked in or or do
01:14:27you think
01:14:28they're going to keep him just on the bench firmly and say save it up for the knockout stage that's
01:14:32a
01:14:32great question you can make the argument on both sides um pulisic yesterday said something that i
01:14:38thought was interesting you know he was asked how much fitness do you lose how much sharpness do
01:14:43you lose when you haven't played for you know 10 days or whatever it is and he kind of laughed
01:14:48i
01:14:48think almost two weeks at this point right so he laughed and said like i haven't been sitting around
01:14:53doing nothing like i've been working out i've been in the gym every day he's working on his fitness and
01:14:57he said i have been touching the ball so you don't really lose much sharpness the sharpness is there
01:15:02i don't know if i was mauricio pochettino that i would risk my best player in a game that doesn't
01:15:07matter right like so i don't think there's any chance he starts i can see maybe bringing him
01:15:12off the bench the last 20 minutes against the tired defense you know let him get a goal he hasn't
01:15:17scored
01:15:17a goal in this world cup um let him start feeling it a little bit but personally i i wouldn't
01:15:23do that
01:15:23i think i i think you save you know you keep your power to dry for again from now on
01:15:29after this game
01:15:29is over everything is must win and again in soccer a lot of things can happen red card early you
01:15:37know
01:15:37mistake goals change games i don't think you take any chances christian pulisic is vital for the
01:15:44americans hopes if they want to make a deep run um i would i would bubble wrap him make sure
01:15:49he's
01:15:49absolutely ready to go for the games that matter most if there's any chance that he's not i don't
01:15:54think you take that risk it's not worth it i would agree and and matt free is the uh the
01:15:57goalkeeper so
01:15:58he is uh he hasn't seen a lot i think he's made just like a handful of saves um do
01:16:04you think that
01:16:04they keep him in the we we stick with him maybe he gets some more touches maybe you know with
01:16:09the
01:16:09the backups playing in the defensive line maybe they'll they'll let a few more balls through he'll
01:16:13get some more experience get more comfortable or do you see them making a change and getting matt
01:16:18turner out there for a little bit you said the word experience matt freeze doesn't have a lot of
01:16:22it i mean this guy had not played an international game 13 months ago which is absolutely crazy
01:16:27to think so he needs the reps i agree he needs the shots if you want to have any continuity
01:16:34at all
01:16:34i think that's the guy that you keep in matt turner has experience in a world cup he started all
01:16:40four
01:16:41games for the u.s four years ago played really well like he didn't make a mistake in that tournament
01:16:45he's played in the premier league he's played you know in european competitions for various clubs in
01:16:50england but i think freeze is the guy you have to you know he's your number one he's your starter
01:16:55you want to get his confidence going he's coming off a shutout or a clean sheet as we call it
01:17:00in
01:17:00soccer in the last game you want to reward that you want to let him play i think he's he
01:17:05would be
01:17:05the one guy i would pick to to continue the the other one would be alex freeman um he's not
01:17:11on a
01:17:12yellow card again he doesn't have a lot of experience either like he he had not played an international
01:17:17game just over a year ago and he started just about every game since and he's getting better every
01:17:22single time he gets on the field and because of that i think you know he scored in the last
01:17:25game
01:17:26it stood up as the game winner you know you want to let him continue to get better and he's
01:17:32an absolute
01:17:32physical specimen we know his you know we know who his dad is yeah um and it's a it's a
01:17:38world cup
01:17:38right so like you know these guys want to play every one of them even the guys on the yellow
01:17:43cards
01:17:43they want to play they're like this is a world cup there's not many games and you never know if
01:17:48you're going to be back um so freeze i think we'll continue for sure and we'll see about freeman
01:17:53but if it was me i would keep freeman in there as well and i would change everybody else doug
01:17:57we're
01:17:57going to be locked in tonight no matter what but as you mentioned earlier u.s could lose 50 to
01:18:01nothing
01:18:01we're still through we're still on to the knockout round uh the the coaching coaches in every sport
01:18:06love to say we don't look ahead players say we don't look ahead none of us are coaches or players
01:18:10we are just fans of the team i want to look ahead um who should we be worried about who
01:18:15are we
01:18:15hoping we get like it looks like we're going to get bosnia probably yeah in the round of 32 um
01:18:20as
01:18:20we're looking at like potential matchups beyond that um what like what other as we're looking as
01:18:26we're in that mode as u.s fans trying to like figure out what this bracket like might look like
01:18:30who do we want to avoid who do we want to play um have you done any of that uh
01:18:34sort of projection
01:18:35yourself not not too much because there's so many ways this could go there's so many different teams
01:18:41you you you could get but bosnia i mean i'm not looking past bosnia personally because that's a
01:18:46really really dangerous team they knocked italy out four-time world cup champion prevented them
01:18:52from getting to the world cup and they have some really good players uh including esmer baratarovic who
01:18:58was born and raised in the milwaukee area so there's a an interesting story there they have you know
01:19:03eden djekko uh you know he's on the older side now but played for manchester city in the
01:19:08premier league he can score he's the best player in their history um they're gonna play free it's a
01:19:13it's of all the teams they could have gotten it's a that's a dangerous one every time you play a
01:19:17european team they're battle tested they these guys play at the highest level they're not going to be
01:19:21afraid um i think they relish the underdog role so yeah bosnia is you know that's a little bit of
01:19:28a
01:19:28trap game but you know if the u.s plays as well as they if that's who they get and
01:19:32they play as well
01:19:33as they can and you have the home crowd behind them up in santa clara that's a game you should
01:19:38win but again things get crazy in the knockout rounds and then after that guys you know you're
01:19:44not gonna there's there's no easy games after that not that bosnia is easy but like you're gonna start
01:19:49to get some of the bigger teams some of the better teams and that's gonna test this american squad in
01:19:54a way that they haven't been yet so this this turkey game is not a throwaway game tonight at all
01:19:59guys i think you're gonna see like it it matters for what things are gonna look like going forward
01:20:03especially if some of you know the the guys that play tonight are you know they come off late and
01:20:09then
01:20:09a few of the starters from the first two games that aren't on yellow cards come in get a few
01:20:14minutes
01:20:14um you know how they react how they respond and getting the win again i think is really important
01:20:20to set them up well going into the bosnia game you don't want to drop this one going into into
01:20:25the
01:20:26first knockout game no matter who it's against you know what i'm glad you brought that let's win
01:20:29this one for italy let's beat bosnia for italy we'll take that on our shoulders yeah like this
01:20:34is a we'll do everything we can for the italians don't worry the u.s has come to save you
01:20:38once again
01:20:38we got your back guys you know we teamed up during the world baseball classic we got your back again
01:20:43here
01:20:43uh doug thank you so much man always giving us excellent insight into this team uh enjoy the match
01:20:49tonight and we'll be checking in with you again soon thanks guys you're ready to go i see everyone's
01:20:54yeah we're locked in we're locked in enjoy locked in thanks doug yeah look at the amount of thigh
01:20:58here oh damn you forgot to ask questions this entire show it looks like i don't have any pants on
01:21:04because that's pretty standard for you yeah oh you're saving it for sockwood i forgot we're doing
01:21:08the yeah we're gonna have hank's hank's breakdown in tonight's game this is we were talking about it
01:21:13in one of the other breaks it's gonna be a very funny visual to look back on six months in
01:21:16football
01:21:18all right close down the show next ask love on twitter
01:21:24welcome back wake up our stool closing the show here only a couple minutes left everybody lock in
01:21:30for tonight guys u.s men's national team back in action turkey a and who better to talk to than
01:21:36our
01:21:36own hank sockwood hank we've talked a lot about this team and how one of the strengths this team
01:21:42has been guys like dest and robinson from the defense able to push up on the edge provide some
01:21:47spades some width to the game so i just want to get your opinion on on what to expect tonight
01:21:52uh from
01:21:52pochettino and the boys yeah i mean my biggest question going into this game is is baligan on
01:21:57yellow and and what that's going to mean for this team and and how it's going to what that means
01:22:02play
01:22:02going forward uh that's that's really what i'm going to be focusing on tonight and i i i'm wondering
01:22:07if they're going to try and play you know whatever strategy they're going to use against bosnia if
01:22:12they're going to try and and and like put that in place tonight if they're going to be playing
01:22:17treating tonight like they're playing bosnia as basically like a scrimmage yeah yeah your classic
01:22:23look ahead like try some things out that you maybe want to use for now do you want to put
01:22:26a trick play
01:22:26on film to give bosnia something to think about yeah maybe save the trick play for bosnia and surprise
01:22:31them yeah maybe you know you play the whole game in zone they don't know and then bosnia you come
01:22:35out man-to-man something like that i like a good point maybe you treat turkey like their scout team
01:22:40bosnia yeah and yeah you you just go into tonight and you you treat it no differently than when you
01:22:45say baligan on yellow what do you mean by that i that's what i want to know and that's what
01:22:48i'm
01:22:48going to be keyed in on for this game tonight and and how it's going to affect this team i
01:22:53also think
01:22:54you know he's doug said it you guys said it we could lose this game 50 to nothing yeah if
01:22:58we lose we
01:22:59cannot lose this game 50 to nothing right yes we if you want to win in the the knockout stage
01:23:04you can't
01:23:05just give up in your third game winning is now does it gotta win does it do anything for you
01:23:09that
01:23:10it's been very publicly stated multiple times that baligan's not going to play tonight because
01:23:14he's on a yellow yeah but i'm just i'm interested to see how you know how how the team reacts
01:23:20to that
01:23:20that's a good point yeah he exits who fills in what's his attitude on the sideline like team
01:23:26chemistry and maybe he's not on yellow oh okay you never know
01:23:32we might be playing possible this whole time uh actually have a yellow car uh so it is a bummer
01:23:37i i just want to say hey because i at the start of the show we talked about hank is
01:23:42carefully
01:23:42constructing his straw man that he's ready to attack at the first sign of weakness for the
01:23:47united states like the first the first time we lose or we look we look shaky hank you're ready to
01:23:52be like see i told you u.s soccer wasn't good i don't want you to do that tonight if
01:23:56it's like a
01:23:57close game against turkey because turkey is a good team they've played poorly at the world cup but
01:24:01they're a very good team nothing matters till the knockout stage and i if if they can oh great
01:24:07question cory i do not hate the usa i will be rooting for the usa i'm kitted up right now
01:24:12i believe
01:24:13i believe uh i don't think we do that i love the usa uh i love this team i love
01:24:20this team as well but
01:24:20are you gonna i mean is pft right are you waiting in the wings here to attack no i think
01:24:26i think the
01:24:27the game against bosnia is is the game to key in on that's the one we we we have to
01:24:32win that game
01:24:33if we don't win that game i'll be very disappointed and just in shocked at how much passion there was
01:24:41for
01:24:41a team that could not advance that you're going to love that you're going to love reminding us about
01:24:46how much we wanted this team to win if we lose that game no i because i love this country
01:24:50and i
01:24:50love this team and i want us to win so that's the game did we ever get the the lamello
01:24:55photo we never
01:24:56got the lamello we'll get on we'll get it by the day's end oh but there it is hank sockwood
01:25:01some very salient points maybe the most of which that round of 32 game that's a must win and baligan
01:25:09on yellow yeah well we're going to monitor he might not be yeah so we're going to monitor the
01:25:13situation they're going to have a little photoshop on first things first they have to well coming up
01:25:17next figure it out yeah first things first coming up thank you hank thank you mark thank you pft
01:25:22love you love you
01:25:24usa
