00:00:21point is it's going to be a fun show we got an nba draft we got rob stone's going to
00:00:25come by we're
00:00:25going to talk a ton of world cup throughout the show today we got connor griffin's grip ends in
00:00:29we got the baseball bonanza and we got brandon walker being an old curmudgeonly brewers fan
00:00:34what more could you want out of a single wake-up bar stool it all starts now on fs1
00:00:59like in this episode no way what's happening y'all welcome back to wake up bar stool hope you're
00:01:04having an excellent morning hope you got a fine steaming cup of coffee and caffeine running
00:01:10through your veins mine's quite cold all right we're just gonna do this all day guys just nobody's
00:01:15gonna be on the same page for the next two hours we're just gonna everybody's gonna be sniping and
00:01:19undercutting one another at every single turn i've been out of this the whole pre-show stuff i don't
00:01:24know what what i walked into talking so loud that is true am i loud i don't i don't think
00:01:28wayne's watching am i coming in hot in the mics but that is true you've been so out of it
00:01:33that
00:01:33brandon demeaned you before the show and you laughed and dapped him up i did he made a good
00:01:38roast about my shirt i had to give him props although yeah i think i gotta unbutton one button i
00:01:42think
00:01:43yeah yeah you gotta yeah let's let's let's pop a beasy next commercial break i'll pop a beasy for
00:01:47wheezy i like show up a little chest yeah wayne's watching i mean i don't know how the the show's
00:01:53so
00:01:53goofy and and and weird energy today because last night we were treated to one of the premier uh sports
00:01:59calendar days of the entire year and that is round one of the nba draft guys might be overstating it
00:02:07a tad hell yeah you're right because the only thing more exciting round two of the nba draft so
00:02:13tonight our a block is we're previewing round two yeah yeah who's your best available on the
00:02:19board right now t bob you know can i say there's a lot out there it's tough to say tough
00:02:25to say can
00:02:25i say something about the nba draft yes absolutely go ahead floor is yours first of all no real surprises
00:02:31i think it's a loaded draft of the first four kind of went like you thought it might except for
00:02:35maybe
00:02:35peterson and boozer if you thought boozer was going to be the safer pick there then the next four
00:02:40guards not a whole lot of surprises here not a whole lot but what happened to the nba draft i
00:02:45love man what happened to the crazy suits what happened to the uh the moms and girlfriends or the
00:02:51dads making it all about themselves what happened to the spectacle around the nba draft these guys were
00:02:56just sitting down there on the on the floor in their little green room just they'd get drafted
00:03:00they'd say okay just calmly walk up grab their hat go up to that alien adam silver and say hey
00:03:05man
00:03:05uh what's up good to see you what happened to the nba draft i love where's the where's the
00:03:10characters where's the histrionics where's the craziness it would have been it would have been
00:03:15a good opportunity for somebody to claim some real estate by bringing back the early 2000s big suits
00:03:20the big suits the hakeem olajuwon tuxedo you know something somebody do something a bit shocking that
00:03:25wasn't done actually because that's like the in fashion i was going to say it's kind of as we're
00:03:29kind of rebounding back that direction somebody should have gone full extreme into the spectrum no i mean
00:03:34look it's but then okay so the nba draft even and and and it's almost like if this one can't
00:03:40be
00:03:40exciting then which one can because there's so much uh premier talent in this one that said
00:03:46everybody right now is suffering from the black hole that is the world cup it it is sucking up all
00:03:54interest i and we're gonna get there in a second but but but real quick on the thoughts here um
00:03:58aj davanson goes one to the washington wizards wizard back i it's crazy man i
00:04:04it's a sad place to be as an nba fan where you have a team that you cheer for and
00:04:11you find
00:04:12yourself jealous of the washington wizards yep and yet that's how i sit here today feel your envy
00:04:18seething out of you i mean they they they've got it's going to be incredibly exciting anthony davis
00:04:24will at least give you like 36 badass games well trade young signs long term for 53 million dollars
00:04:31a year uh for a lot of money t-bob guys like us wizards fans like me we've been waiting
00:04:36long long
00:04:38time somewhere over a month and a half for this moment for for for this team to be back and
00:04:43it
00:04:43feels so good t-bob so debonta is is very very interesting he is both he both has a very
00:04:49high
00:04:49ceiling a high floor but at the same time i don't know that he has he's not lebron he's not
00:04:55he's not
00:04:55he's not he's not that type of number one pick but peterson behind him with the red flag like i
00:05:01think
00:05:01peterson's the best player in the draft potentially but he has the red flags and debonta is both safe
00:05:06and appealing at the same time like he's a weird mix of oh my god the ceiling could be this
00:05:10i also
00:05:11know he's very very safe yeah yeah his intangible like everything you read about demands before the
00:05:16draft is that teams were very impressed like his competitiveness intangibles leadership all that
00:05:20like he he wants to leave it all out there there's questions of peterson this is one of my favorite
00:05:25uh
00:05:26day after the draft traditions though which is reading who had the best draft and it's just a
00:05:30bunch of writers being like well i had this guy going here and he went here so that means that
00:05:35was
00:05:36an incredible draft a lot of that with darren peterson as like it was actually the jazz because i had
00:05:40peterson as the best overall i think he is the best uh the best potential nba player he has
00:05:46some shot making and some scoring that a lot of people don't have he's he's the best maybe scoring
00:05:50guard pure scoring guard since kobe like he's very very very good but then again could stay on the
00:05:55floor of kansas or wouldn't stay on the floor of kansas yeah so if the guy couldn't make it through
00:06:00a 30 game college season uh at a place like kansas if he couldn't be reliable there why do i
00:06:06think he's
00:06:06now all of a sudden going to be reliable in an 82 game season that gets tougher competition playing 40
00:06:10games a year at altitude yeah it's it's it's it's it's a worthy question but i if i'm the jazz
00:06:16all
00:06:16of a sudden by the way the jazz got a lot of young exciting talent but but like if i'm
00:06:21the jazz i think
00:06:22i do take the risk i do take the swing just know the swing could end up costing them in
00:06:26the long run
00:06:27i i and and you know to to kind of make fun of myself here and how smooth he is
00:06:31do a bit of a thing
00:06:33that i was just kind of uh tongue-in-cheek making fun of the writers for doing if i'm a
00:06:37memphis
00:06:37grizzlies fan and i'm about to move john morant we're exiting that era which started off so full
00:06:43of excitement and hope and promise and ended in just like a like a car with the wheels falling off
00:06:49a bit disastrous it has to feel fantastic to get boozer through yeah because i mean again and i know
00:06:55this has been the tagline here but these are guys in like camp boozer peterson who would be number one
00:07:01in a majority of drafts so you're telling me you come away at three with him and then caleb wilson
00:07:07as well so like yeah big winners there uh for both the the grizzlies at three and as you said
00:07:13the the
00:07:14bulls at four they're getting wilson where it went sideways and i don't think it went sideways i
00:07:17shouldn't say it like that but i did i was interested in the middle of the draft the first four
00:07:22went like
00:07:22the first four was always going to go then you get to five and keaton wogler goes ahead of guys
00:07:27like
00:07:28a cuff ahead of guys like flemings i had of uh who went six oh i got it right here
00:07:32uh yeah mikhail
00:07:34brown jr so you go what this this group of guards right there wogler brown a cuff flemings you know
00:07:39i'm just using my eyes and what i saw in college basketball i think a cuff has the highest ceiling
00:07:45there i think a cuff is the guy you put the ball in his hands it's the most exciting but
00:07:49they went
00:07:50wogler number five and then mikhail brown before him so that was interesting to me the way that
00:07:54foursome shook out also brown way more inconsistent this year than a cuff was had a back injury
00:08:00whereas it does seem like a cuff the run that he went on especially in march like was insane but
00:08:06if
00:08:07you're the kings you got to be super happy that he fell all the way well didn't what wasn't a
00:08:11cuff
00:08:11like actively out there campaigning to go to sacramento as well yeah the one player in draft
00:08:16history we've seen that's ever been like i want i need that was a mutual sacramento don't sleep on
00:08:22the bucks here at 10 a day after trading yannis and and you know kind of starting over they get
00:08:27a
00:08:27guy i mean i think the mavs did them a huge favor by taking more as johnson jr and not
00:08:31taking
00:08:32brayton berries there i think um i mean darius acup jr is going to win rookie of the year too
00:08:37right
00:08:38playing in sacramento he's going to have the ball constantly i mean tyree kevin's did it there back
00:08:42in the day i mean debons is getting right into that rotation is going to be a key piece immediately
00:08:47peterson you got to think if you're drafting it too you're just saying hey we believe in you go out
00:08:51and
00:08:51score 20 a game so i i i think there's going to be a lot and and boozer is immediately
00:08:56the
00:08:56cornerstone of that organization so i i think there's going to be a lot of players here and then
00:09:01by the way at 12 at 12 you got the thunder yeah i know i don't even want to ask
00:09:06about that and they
00:09:07a day tomorrow falls to them then they get uh the the third guard starts like he's going to be
00:09:12the
00:09:12most hateable guy in the league now that he's on the thunder like there's there's just the good teams
00:09:17know how to draft like the spurs got um terris reed jr late last night right yeah like they get
00:09:22these winning teams draft winners and they keep winning how do you let morris slip all the way to
00:09:28the thunder i mean like because you knew that they wanted him but i also wonder from the the thunder
00:09:33perspective specifically specifically pardon me from the the holmgren perspective like this is a guy who
00:09:41who shrunk in the big moment against wemby and now he's going into this off season where you have
00:09:47all these people questioning his chet holmgren actually is advertised and then his own team now
00:09:52goes out and gets another player who's his height and i don't know exactly yeah but they got but he's
00:09:57a back he's gonna be no i know i don't think oklahoma city has any questions about chet holmgren
00:10:02correct but it does hopefully you know maybe this is a little bit of a kick in the arse maybe
00:10:07like yeah
00:10:08i gotta be add another navi what did you say yeah he said what you said we're on national
00:10:13we're on national television why'd you say arse kicking the arse i don't know if i could say the
00:10:17other word um is it soccer is that an english term is it soccer is that more is that not
00:10:21canadian
00:10:23what's all right that's british british arse yeah um i i i noticed something um no jalen's drafted in
00:10:30the top 10 the nba has a lot of jalen's wow jalen's um three juniors drafted in in the top
00:10:3510 there
00:10:35oh wow bloodlines i think they're freshmen yeah there you go huh i'm curious what is the nba the
00:10:41most junior heavy league along as the uh with the most jalen heavy league jalen i would say possibly
00:10:48yes it's it's gotta be there's there's a lot every porter a lot of juniors in baseball but per capita
00:10:55i guess basketball yeah i've got good news for you you can bump that juniors up from three to four
00:10:59because the j and aj is for junior wow yeah the the government name last night huh
00:11:05i think everyone was taking a back they didn't tell us that was coming what's that well adam silver
00:11:10announced the number one pick it was anise davansa oh yeah i mean look i don't yeah i don't know
00:11:16did
00:11:16you did you watch hell no okay all right i mean what are you talking about he's a night
00:11:21two guy that's what i'm saying dude it's world cup you'll watch it's world cup time yeah i told you
00:11:28witch doctor curse england and and and and recap the ronaldo uzbekistan game as ronaldo finally
00:11:36entering the party after a week of headlines about is he bad for the team all sorts of drama back
00:11:42on
00:11:43the domestic home front ronaldo shows up and within the first 15 minutes manages to put one in the net
00:11:49there was a goal of great quality like right like it couldn't have been a penalty that that wouldn't
00:11:54have solved the problem it had to come in the run of play and the fact that this finish man
00:11:59out the
00:11:59air off the bounce near post just threading the needle you could see the relief on ronaldo's face
00:12:07and then uh look it was just a perfect night for portugal you talk because like what was the entire
00:12:12storyline ronaldo's sucking up all the oxygen in the room he's too much of a distraction i thought it
00:12:17was poetic then that the second goal and the free kick is caused because of the distraction of
00:12:22ronaldo he sets up his teammate with the gravitational pull you and i were watching
00:12:27that one together yeah and it was a big moment everybody was locked in everybody's locked in
00:12:31like ronaldo oh they're absolutely gonna let him kick this right and then he's just used as a decoy
00:12:36what a pass and it's a it's a beautiful free another great finds the back of the net yeah
00:12:40it was a great one for portugal that being said ronaldo was a little too surprised after that first
00:12:45goal i think well it was a little too surprised how long it had been since he had scored a
00:12:50non-penalty
00:12:51goal in a major international play i gotta be honest no i don't know yeah and obviously just
00:12:56i've read this it's it's been since 2021 so we're talking half a decade that's a lot of football for
00:13:01him to play without finding the back of the net like he did twice yesterday so like after this goal
00:13:06you can see him too very clearly saying i'm back i'm back so like he had this weighing on him
00:13:13this was
00:13:13a burden that was lifted off of his shoulders yesterday big time good for him and now he joins the
00:13:19part now it is his bucks 10 but you know you gotta you gotta do what you gotta do and
00:13:23uh it'll be
00:13:25interesting to see if there's a knock-on effect and if this kind of unlocks him the rest of the
00:13:29tournament going forward uh the other major game yesterday ghana and england a nil nil tie the only
00:13:38game of the tournament that didn't feature a shot and goal in the first half uh ghana played some
00:13:44excellent defense scrappy kind of parked the bus we're gonna make this thing hard we're gonna make
00:13:49you suffer and england got close here it is in the 86 i'm trying to start with jake malicek on
00:13:55that
00:13:55one like that one that that you're you're you're eight feet away you missed by you've missed by 40
00:14:02feet hurricane deserves the ridicule for that miss is what you're saying i i believe so i mean look at
00:14:07this but i think he's getting it from fans of the club no or it's not i guess it's not
00:14:14harry kane's
00:14:15fault though he had a he had a curse put on him did y'all see this uh that's the
00:14:20one uh nanakwaku
00:14:21bonsum is a witch doctor out of ghana who has very famously and notoriously uh claimed that he put a
00:14:28curse on ronaldo back in 2014 which led to a knee injury and made him miss the game against ghana
00:14:34back
00:14:34then and while he said this year he said quote about harry kane i'm not wishing him serious injury
00:14:40it will be just enough to stop him against my country i will do my work so that it can
00:14:45help ghana
00:14:45and sure enough look what ends up happening in this game and it was announced today that bonsum is
00:14:52releasing harry kane so it was a one-game curse all right it's not a tournament-wide curse so if
00:14:57you
00:14:58want to double down on kane the curse is over can we get this guy on staff i know what's
00:15:03stopping us
00:15:04from hiring him oh because he actually works um so if you're this witch doctor right yeah put the
00:15:11curse on kane yeah got the draw yeah what's stopping ghana from winning the world cup
00:15:18also why would he use this is his powers for a draw why not why not say i would also
00:15:22like to curse the
00:15:23england goalkeeper to give up five well i mean look i don't want to be i i i don't want
00:15:27to get too
00:15:28much over my skis given that i don't have a lot of experience with uh modern day hoodoo voodoo
00:15:36magic but i would say that he never claimed to affect the kind of the overall score or have control
00:15:45over that he seems to have maybe to like a voodoo doll or some sort to totem he seems to
00:15:50have some
00:15:50sort of influence over an individual's fate and so it was all tied to harry kane and thus harry kane
00:15:56coming up short in a couple of big moments in which he had really good opportunities
00:15:59kyle are you familiar with witch doctoring i have i can provide limited operational value in this
00:16:05context thank you kyle the uh dan housen situation with the knicks is that like uh i think i think
00:16:13dan
00:16:14housen is doing a little bit of stolen valor against oh he's got actual culture here it is this guy
00:16:20did
00:16:20it first dan housen did it first i i don't know wrestling enough well you better be careful
00:16:25dan housen i didn't say that for the record for the record i did not say that he's doing
00:16:31he bob he's doing we had nothing to do with that he's doing a a witch doctor nope work nope
00:16:38it's not
00:16:38a shoot right it's a work am i wrong here so look guys as if the world cup hadn't been
00:16:45overwhelming
00:16:46and fun and entertaining enough we are in a race to the finish for these group stages so the next
00:16:51four days we'll have six matches a day okay so lock the hell in scotland brazil gonna be going
00:16:59down to miami is that gonna be the funniest crowd on crowd matchup of all time could be
00:17:04i like that one a lot all right ton more to get to don't go anywhere more wake up barstool
00:17:12i'm telling you right look if you've never seen christiano's adam's apple we gotta get you
00:17:16educated on christiano's adam's apple educated yeah it's massive educated it's the sharpest adam's
00:17:23apple i've ever seen it's starting to burst through the skin at any given moment if he gets a hat
00:17:28trick
00:17:28you make it so excited manly quality i'm not having the is ronaldo hot discussion on a wednesday
00:17:33morning yes ronaldo's hot come on what are we doing move on but again we're judging on the grade
00:17:39of soccer players who for my money are the most attractive athletes that we have in the entire
00:17:44world so in in you have the adam's apple yeah give me the adam's apple guys give me the adam's
00:17:51apple
00:17:51thank you thank you this is excellent work for production here going ahead and making this
00:17:55happen out of nowhere as we're about to talk about yannis and the celtics and dusty may what you know
00:18:01brandon had to be tickled pink to watch dave portnoy's favorite coach abandon dave portnoy's favorite
00:18:07team to head to the nba gotta be just the michigan man michigan i'm desperately filling time as we
00:18:15try to do this adam's apple bit look at that thing brandon you know how they say it's the size
00:18:20of a
00:18:20baby's fist yeah unbelievable you could play elite highlight with that what what's that highlight i
00:18:29compared his adam's apple to a larger sports ball okay you're unfamiliar with highlight you don't know
00:18:37highlight i don't think i do know what that is we got to get you educated highlights it's a thing
00:18:41with
00:18:42the the scoop the scoop yeah one of the most dangerous sports they like launch that thing you
00:18:47could probably play in the star wars universe on like uh what are those things the bb8 you're
00:18:51riding the bb8 with your arm droid yeah droid um anyway shout out to shout out to christianos
00:18:58adam's apple but also shout out to brandon walker because again brandon you had to be
00:19:04really pleased when you saw dusty mays leave michigan in the lurch it was very just bad timing
00:19:10to head to the dallas mavericks very very disappointing that our monday show with dave portnoy
00:19:15ended at nine central time dusty may was announced at 903 that he was going to the dallas mavericks
00:19:20it was surreal by the way last night watching dusty may just there at the draft being part of the
00:19:25mavericks and not not 24 barely 24 hours earlier he was michigan's head coach and then you have the
00:19:30number nine number 10 and number 12 all no number 9 12 and 13 all michigan players i got it
00:19:36maybe 9 11
00:19:37and 12 whatever but dusty may is there and he watches all those michigan guys come off the board
00:19:42i found it very interesting that dusty may goes to the mavericks and his first pick is
00:19:47more as johnson jr it was not mara yeah it was not lindenburg it was i was wondering about that
00:19:52how much i mean does may have any like like at that point is that pick already made essentially
00:19:57like does he get any did he get the best thumb on the scale for that pick to get hired
00:20:01one day and
00:20:02then you're like yeah let's get this one he definitely he definitely has some input in
00:20:05okay didn't they cut to mora or didn't they cut to him after mora got drafted yeah very excited
00:20:09like slamming on his knee or almost i don't know exactly what the reaction was whether it was
00:20:15excitement or yeah it was anger that he was going to the thunder i don't know i thought that was
00:20:18excitement for the guy yeah i think yeah he's got to be pumped for his voice i think he said
00:20:22uh hell
00:20:22yeah at the end right okay oh and shout out once again to um john calipari for just knowing how
00:20:27to
00:20:27get on camera yeah too had nothing to do there acuff gets drafted then i believe when debonsa was
00:20:32getting picked somehow calipari's in the shot the whole time so nobody nobody has ever known where
00:20:38camry did we talk to cal on the wednesday show here because oh no i would have okay because i
00:20:43would have said something that would have gotten me fired that was the most charismatic man i've i've
00:20:47ever met in my entire life he's a charmer and there you go i mean talk to him brandon try
00:20:51not to be
00:20:52charmed i've talked to him before uh i've been a salesman you'd say those pants will be on the
00:20:56floor before you can blink what could he sell like uh he's like any oil to you or anything i
00:21:00i i have a
00:21:01yeah he said he said it was like reptile maybe like snake based or something yeah um i do have
00:21:08a question about that great question what is snake oil what's that what yeah what is snake oil let's
00:21:14get our best guy on the origin of the snake oil kb can we get the etymology of snake oil
00:21:18the phrase
00:21:19originates from 19th century america when traveling salesmen peddled bottled mixtures known as patent
00:21:24medicines these tonics were widely marketed as miraculous cure-alls for every imaginable ailment
00:21:29from arthritis to cancer did that give you an answer well explained so so well i would say
00:21:34it's a derogatory term for a deceptive product i think so i think i knew all of that my question
00:21:42is
00:21:42what is actual snake oil like how do you produce oil from the snake it's a colloquial label for a
00:21:49con artist okay well i know i understand yeah i think the point the point is there's no snake oil
00:21:54correct okay fugazi it's a wazi it's a woozy it's fairy dust okay well okay i have a question
00:21:59about dusty may and this is a debate that is raging online uh and by that i mean i read
00:22:04two
00:22:05different opinions is uh is dusty may leaving for the nba just more about the opportunity for him to
00:22:13go get the coach cooper flag the maps and everything and and you know it tests himself in the biggest
00:22:17league or is it more of a commentary on the current state of college basketball well number one it's
00:22:23clearly uh a snapshot of the corruption and rot inside michigan's program a coach gets to the top
00:22:30of the mountain he immediately wants to leave michigan no that being said i think it's more
00:22:34about this i believe basketball coaches and basketball lifers grow up wanting to get to the nba
00:22:41and believing the nba is the ultimate destination more than any other sport like i feel like you can
00:22:45in football college football coaching especially in the sec or maybe like impassionate fan bases
00:22:50that can be the top of the mountain yeah i don't think there's any place in college basketball even
00:22:55if it's duke even if it's kansas even if it's any of those where it's viewed as the top of
00:22:59the
00:22:59mountain over an nba job at some point these guys get the itch to prove themselves in the highest
00:23:05league in the land how much of an added burden is it in the era of the transfer portal and
00:23:11nil for
00:23:12these college coaches well these coaches don't like the the nil and transfer portal for the burden
00:23:17that puts on them because you're all the time you have 12 players on your roster but you're recruiting
00:23:20them at all times you're playing defense on them at all times you're trying to keep them happy at
00:23:23all times and it's a 365 day a year job now what makes me what makes me reticent about this
00:23:30one is
00:23:30dusty may was the best at it he was the best he had all the resources in the world he
00:23:34was the best
00:23:34at nil like he had it figured out so if he says oh i don't want to deal with this
00:23:39crap anymore i'm
00:23:39on the nba he's either lying or it's a systemic real real real issue i think it is an issue
00:23:45i do
00:23:46think i i think it can be overblown a bit i mean i thought fanna had some great perspective on
00:23:51this
00:23:51yesterday where he's talking about hard work and he's like yeah that's that's hard but they're they're
00:23:56they're paid a lot like real hard work is like out there you know yeah grinding construction or or or
00:24:02trade or working the power lines after big storms like whatever suck it up i and and yes there are
00:24:09no simple answers like may's decision is absolutely a combination of the two but to me it's just all
00:24:16about like kind of what brandon's getting at the opportunity to get to the nba and in a friendly
00:24:20spot taking over cooper flag and a new era of this mavericks franchise that looks like it even though it
00:24:27should not by no right should a franchise that got rid of jalen brunson and luka dodgich be in this
00:24:32position but like it's a pretty friendly spot for dusty may to join i mean you say that but he's
00:24:37leaving
00:24:38uh you know he could be michigan's coach for the next 20 years yeah he's leaving one of the most
00:24:42rock solid probably spots he could be in in college basketball and he's going to an organization that
00:24:46has been the topsy turviest in in professional sports the last three years like they had brunson
00:24:52they they let him go they had donchich they let they trade him bizarrely in the middle of the night
00:24:56and then one of the weird and then they get lucky and they get flagged but just because they got
00:25:00flagged doesn't mean that ship is is righted for the next 10 years this but this organization
00:25:05can mess up it does feel like mark cuban is kind of getting more getting back involved the team a
00:25:10little bit no and that's fine yeah trying to reach stabilize the organization it could be a good a
00:25:16good gig what about this concept i'm going to blow your mind yeah where's mark cuban uh what what
00:25:22college does he support indiana where did dusty may come from yeah so he wants him to fail so that
00:25:27then later cuban can recruit he's backdooring him to indiana okay yeah that makes him out of
00:25:32michigan right mark cuban trades cooper flag in the middle of the night like he purposely sinks
00:25:38he's backdooring him to indiana there there's no downside risk to a college coach going to the
00:25:44nba yeah the job security isn't great in the nba but you get fired and you're you're instantly the
00:25:50number one candidate for any college job you want country especially you can wait it out too so it's
00:25:54like if there's nothing in the cycle you want you can wait for the next cycle to pick up a
00:25:57job
00:25:57or you end up in a front office i i think it's a no-brainer if you're a college coach
00:26:02to make the job
00:26:02uh before we get to griffins and outs i do want to touch on and we'll save yannis for later
00:26:07but i
00:26:07do want to touch on the jalen brown awkwardness yeah uh so you know brad stevens is putting on kind
00:26:13of a very big public show about oh we don't actually want to get rid of brown that was just
00:26:16about the
00:26:17availability of a player like yannis but it seems like like the celtics have to trade jalen brown at
00:26:23this point right it would be hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube especially a guy that got
00:26:29a taste of
00:26:29being the number one option this year as jason tatum got hurt jason tatum's gone all year jalen
00:26:35brown puts the team on his back and gets them to where they got this year and the playoffs were
00:26:38disappointing but still they had a good season because of him and their responses immediately
00:26:43dangle him in trade offers choose him to be the one that uh they break that breaks up the tatum
00:26:48and
00:26:49jalen brown like i don't know how you go to jalen brown saying like man we believe in you because
00:26:53you clearly don't you clearly think something better is out there potentially whether it's a disbelief
00:26:59in jalen brown or belief that yeah they just need to get better they recognize they are nowhere near
00:27:04where they need to be to get back to winning a championship they just won a championship no but
00:27:09they lose to the sixers they would have gotten railroaded by the knicks i think they lost in
00:27:14seven games to the sixers tatum came back he was injured all year he comes back whatever but you can
00:27:18tweak i think this roster needs tweaked it doesn't need a complete blow up like getting rid of jalen brown
00:27:23derrick white needed to be better this year you need to have a little bit no no more super reliant
00:27:29on their missing draw there were a lot of things you can tweak this roster and get them back to
00:27:33a
00:27:34championship level jalen brown being gone is the is the biggest panic that i've ever the nba team
00:27:39seemed to sprint to just blow it up for no reason you know this is one of the more shocking
00:27:44again given
00:27:45like the the the recency in which they won a championship this is one of the more shocking re like
00:27:51let's let's rework it that i that i've ever seen i think in my entire career doing this i know
00:27:55they
00:27:55lost to the sixers this year in seven games but if if one role player is better this year they
00:28:00win
00:28:00that series like this team is not far off you can re rework and tweak and get this roster back
00:28:06to the
00:28:07championship i really believe that but how many teams are out there i think of the timberwolves i think
00:28:12of uh you know are one star away from being championship contenders if you've got jalen brown with
00:28:17anthony edwards and now you got something over there there's a lot of teams i think they're
00:28:21secretly kind of squirreling away some cap room to make a run at jalen brown i don't think he's a
00:28:25celtic next year yeah to t bob's point they lost a lot of their identity when drew holiday was no
00:28:30longer there when al horford was no longer there i just think they need to and those are their
00:28:33identity yeah no exactly rework their identity they do it as maybe somehow tanks both the milwaukee
00:28:39bucks and the boston cell yeah brought them championships and then uh they couldn't quite figure out
00:28:44how to fill that void six are great people forget all right coming up uh pelican great as well people
00:28:49forget also like you can never replicate where porzingis went to two years ago right he was the
00:28:55way he was playing for like for like three weeks he was one of the best players in the league
00:28:58and they
00:28:59won a title and then that was over wait brandon you need to shut up because it's time for your
00:29:03favorite part of every single week that's right connor's griffins and outs on the other side of the
00:29:07break what are you buying what should you be selling what or that's not true it's what are we
00:29:11taking it whatever griffins and outs next screw that up what is it's not stock market stock you
00:29:15should i wanted to dap you up real fast oh look at the tulips wait hold on connor you like
00:29:19tulips
00:29:19i do like tulips this has to be old i thought tulip season was already over not for you buddy
00:29:27what's happening guys this is wake up barstool and this is the best segment we do every single
00:29:32week this is connor griffins griffins and outs what are we leaving behind this week and what are
00:29:38we taking in next week with us connor take it away thank you t bob first one it's a little
00:29:44bit
00:29:44of a throwback but it's back in right now and i'm specifically talking about nickelback throwback
00:29:48nickelback look at this photograph uh we'll pull it up right now here's john gruden he's just getting a
00:29:54little bit of a walk run in on father's day weekend just having a great time he's blaring some music
00:29:59in
00:29:59his headphones and there was a follow-up tweet where somebody says hey coach what are you listening
00:30:03and chewing your headphones and he says nickelback hell yeah so he's blaring some nickelback on the
00:30:09beaches also keep in mind this is right after taylor swift and her crew sitting courtside at the
00:30:14games they all had the custom nick shirts one of them said nickelback it's coming back into the
00:30:18mainstream nickelback very much in brandon you seem confused well there's only so many nick puns you
00:30:24can make so don't act like nickelback being one of the nick puns is is a sign that they're back
00:30:29i think you can make a bunch of different and john gruden probably knows like four songs
00:30:33but there's yeah we all the he's the target audience yeah we all know four nickelback songs
00:30:39so and they're all awesome john gruden knows four songs total oh oh yeah i just got a kick out
00:30:43of
00:30:43seeing that i thought that was a great tweet by coach we having a blast father's day weekend
00:30:48blaring nickelback griff i'm with you we love to see two things first off we love to see sincerity
00:30:54in this cynical age in which we live and i love it even more when it's about something that it's
00:31:00become so trendy to hate on so i've got a list of things the internet went overboard on hating
00:31:06hating on okay the internet loves the internet loves the internet loves to absolutely be like oh i always
00:31:12first of all if everybody always hated nickelback they wouldn't have been as popular as they were
00:31:15yeah they're awesome uh nickelback arby's these are things creed people people act like they hated
00:31:21creed for a while yeah like the people act like they hated these things but these things were all
00:31:25massive you're all lying about that's why people hated them i think they're a victim of mass
00:31:30overexposure on the radio and also i think it was more of an inside joke nickelback is the worst
00:31:35um and that turned into like a meme to hate yeah i don't know if it's sincere i think people
00:31:40they're sonically pleasing agreed yeah i like nickelback i agree i think they're pleasing to listen to okay
00:31:46good well they're back in so that's the first thing of the day hell yeah glad we could all agree
00:31:51on it in the end my first out it's the tyler kolik disrespect i don't know if you guys saw
00:31:58this this
00:31:58video at the knicks parade last week speaking of the knicks we were talking about taylor swift and
00:32:02the nickelback and everything here he is he's off the bus and he's going and he's hanging out with
00:32:06these fans and dapping them up giving them high fives security comes over they think he's a rogue fan
00:32:11that got over the barricade and they're swarming them and they're like sir you you have to leave
00:32:16there's a second angle of this uh i don't know uh to be fair tyler kolik looks like a knicks
00:32:22fan
00:32:23yeah that's the least nba player i've ever seen in my entire life that's racist this was a guy
00:32:29who put up what was it like 54 points combined between playing in the g league and then the next
00:32:35same night he goes on later in the day and he plays for the actual knicks and he scores there
00:32:39too in
00:32:39the fourth quarter like this is a legend uh of george mason university yeah he's great
00:32:46and fellow george mason alum he was he was posting stuff after the win last week where he's like you
00:32:50know when you contributed nothing to the group but he took this in good spirits right yeah i think so
00:32:54like he's a jokester he's got a good sense of uh humor but yeah i saw that i was this
00:32:58is crazy it's
00:32:59tyler kolik wait you mentioned taylor swift is that i was in a video i think taylor swift performed at
00:33:05tight end you she did yeah i said i got a video sent from katik last night oh that's crazy
00:33:10dude
00:33:11yeah she was doing uh did katik and dana meet taylor swift hi there's a world out there where i
00:33:16think
00:33:16there's a prop there it's definitely it will literally there's a non-zero chance that dana
00:33:21beers and michael katik were hanging out with taylor swift by the way george kittle massive lord of the
00:33:28rings fan no kidding love to see it yep dana gave me the inside scoop okay there you have it
00:33:34that's
00:33:34lord of the rings eternal end okay love it eternal you know who doesn't like lord of the rings
00:33:38hell connor never seen the movies yes i saw i saw all three eternal out connor griffin i saw all
00:33:45three
00:33:45of the the originals he said he liked every other fantasy yeah except for that he said harry potter
00:33:52greater than greater than greater than lord of the ring i said specifically i i'm not a huge fan of
00:33:56harry potter but i'll watch it he said what is this narnia whatever okay we're moving on on the topic
00:34:01of
00:34:02championships and parades and whatnot i am very in on reunions i need to see more of these in sports
00:34:08the 2016 cavaliers team this was some of the best content on the internet in a minute in terms of
00:34:14the
00:34:14nba just they're they're back together they're golfing they're drinking they're partying they
00:34:18recreated the the end credits of the hangover where they're like okay we're gonna look at these pictures
00:34:23one last time and then we're wiping them and they're just having an absolute blast obviously there
00:34:29was a whole controversy with oh why isn't kairi irving there but put that aside it was nothing
00:34:34but good vibes well kairi's not there because kairi chose not to be there right like jr smith was
00:34:39very publicly clear about that yeah and then kairi came back later and was saying how much love he's
00:34:44got for the team and whatnot so i don't know but i just i thought this was great content every
00:34:49single
00:34:49video i was watching time and time again it was hilarious we all hope more championship teams need
00:34:55to do this we all hope to reach that point in life where you could have some sort of reunion
00:35:00with your boys as you're older and you've got money and you take one of these trips yeah that's that's
00:35:07that is the male dream what those guys just got to do correct is there a hypothetical franchise that
00:35:13could have more of an impact on their respective city than the 2016 calves on cleveland i don't think so
00:35:20and that's why what about the 2026 new york knicks there we go no i mean new york's too new
00:35:29york is
00:35:29too big and right that but that's why it's such an impact did you see the parade no i agree
00:35:34but
00:35:34you got you got jp morgan exec stealing trash cans you were shot millions of people that don't care
00:35:39like from on a per capita standpoint that affected more people in cleveland even than new york with how
00:35:45i afraid look while the knicks haven't had success in terms of winning a championship in a long long
00:35:50time the entire city of cleveland hadn't had success like that in a long long time you know who needs
00:35:56something and i was talking to chef donnie about this the state of minnesota yes they do i mean the
00:36:03most brutal they don't get talked about but the professional franchises there they are the most
00:36:09long suffering fan bases that have maybe ever existed everybody who leaves they gotta dine a
00:36:15hockey dude immediately they gotta dine that that kind of feeds into my next out though t bob uh because
00:36:20my next out is vandalizing rocky obviously there is the the rocky statue in philadelphia right by the
00:36:26art museum this has been a long curse where you had viking fans who put a vikings jersey on it
00:36:32back in
00:36:33the nsc championship game in 2018 and the eagles wound up thumping them then then the uh who was
00:36:38it was it the 49ers after that yeah they did the same connor what am i looking at here i'm
00:36:42gonna get
00:36:43to that and then the the commanders they did it they thumped them too it's a long tradition for
00:36:48opposing teams to come to philadelphia and put their own team's merch on the rocky statue defacing it
00:36:53and so brazil fans in the world cup they said we're not doing that they're oh wow their own brazil
00:36:58fans
00:36:59for putting brazil merch on rocky because they're well aware of the curse and they do not want to
00:37:04curse their team ecuador put ecuador merch on rocky they wind up losing their first game to ivory coast
00:37:09so brazil kudos to them they're saying we're not vandalizing rocky it's one of the biggest signs of
00:37:14disrespect possible uh that's out you don't have any play what was your favorite rocky moment as a
00:37:19philadelphia fan what do you mean oh in terms of the spankings that we would then lay on people
00:37:24no no just just no like he's a cultural hero like what it like your favorite rocky moment
00:37:29like because he saved you yeah how many how many rocky movies you've seen i've seen creed one no
00:37:37i've seen rocky one i saw four because we learned we saw that in my history class actually because it
00:37:42ended the cold war and then i saw the first creed you saw three of nine rocky movies yes i've
00:37:47never
00:37:47can't talk movies anymore i was never huge into rocky but obviously exactly what are you saying
00:37:52iconic running up the steps what you're saying i ain't saying you you covered your mouth and said
00:37:56something no i was coughing i should have coughed into my elbow you don't like rocky either no i i
00:38:01like rocky i've only seen one of four all right well hey we'll move on we'll move on because my
00:38:08my
00:38:08next day in my last in still with soccer brandon walker solo show next week it's foundational pieces
00:38:14the foundational pieces are very much in right now oh dude he looks so cool well of course talking
00:38:20mauricio pochettino he is just like unbelievably cool and casual on the sidelines people were
00:38:26mocking this to start it looks like a gas station yeah that's hugo boss brandon that's an awful style
00:38:32hugo boss fit and he's gonna overcharge you to change your oil that is an awful outfit he looks so
00:38:38chill dude you don't talk crap about poch not now i don't crap about his outfit you know can do
00:38:42anything
00:38:43the last two buttons are undone jeremy because it's called style yes he was wearing this in the first
00:38:48game the u.s one he runs it back for the second game u.s one he's a big superstition
00:38:52guy i'm assuming
00:38:53we'll see it tomorrow as well 100 very excited i i think it's so good to look over at the
00:38:58sidelines
00:38:59and as we're just pasting these teams see a coach who's dressed so just casual and like it's nothing
00:39:05to him so shout out to poch has anybody else adopted the the lemons no he's a big believer in
00:39:11lemons cleansing negative energy and cleansing the air i've started keeping a giant bowl of lemons in my
00:39:17kitchen now and well i haven't noticed the effects yet no but it's going to i'm feeling positive about
00:39:24where it could go love that actually we do need to get some lemons in the studio carson could you
00:39:28get
00:39:28some lemons thank you i listen i i go for some lemons right now so we get fruit flies also
00:39:34i was
00:39:34gonna say you what what was that in you said foundational piece foundational pieces oh big for
00:39:39the wardrobe uh speaking of wardrobe i can't get enough of the norwegians uniforms they are good i mean
00:39:46the home kits are great but that all black away kit with the nordic runic script might be my
00:39:52favorite uniforms in any sport ever well we're gonna focus specifically here on america who also
00:39:57has great uniforms yeah rocky three is great rocky three you guys didn't see the first creed i saw the
00:40:04first i've heard they're great we'll get back in the sidetrack first creed's the best rocky movie hey
00:40:08listen my my last out it's calling soccer football i i got so many europeans in my comments on tiktok
00:40:16uh saying oh you can't be a fan of the sport if you call it soccer it's football look at
00:40:21this scene
00:40:21in america right here yeah on fox sports we're gonna have rob stone in the second hour this is
00:40:27an insane environment people are rallying around the sport of soccer we're showing that we've arrived
00:40:32and we're now 2-0 in the group stage won the group going to the knockouts america you know
00:40:39through the knockouts technically we got just as good as scenes like in a random saturday in
00:40:43champaign illinois but we're bringing that to soccer yeah bring that energy do you know do you
00:40:48know the the origin of soccer no it's uh a shortened version of association football really yeah
00:40:56because there was rugby rules football and association rules football that's how soccer we
00:41:01they went with the sock part not the ass how does that make sense where does the ur come from
00:41:07no idea t-bop
00:41:11food for thought i waited 30 minutes to get into a bar for that uf skin
00:41:16it was worth a line no it was a minute guys it's a big show we're going to commercial we're
00:41:21all about
00:41:21it t-bop forgot yeah
00:41:28and that's welcome back great create the best rocky movie create the best rocky movie is he right
00:41:33you can go on twitter hashtag ask wub and you can rank your rocky movies as brandon walker right
00:41:39that creed is actually the single best rocky movie uh speaking of maybe some funny opinions to be
00:41:46uttered out loud yaksl lindenborg gets drafted to the golden state warriors last night and here's what
00:41:51yaksl had to say as uh he takes the podium on his biggest night ever it's uh it's a full
00:41:58circle
00:41:58moment for me you know i've been saying this every time i get asked this question but uh 2016
00:42:02i'm a big hyrie guy so i used to hate step curry
00:42:07uh i love that i i i some people are you know is this smart like when you're no that's
00:42:12that's great
00:42:12man that's fun i'm sure steph gets a kick out of that as well uh yeah that you know steph's
00:42:18in
00:42:18unk status right now so this is going to be some fun kind of hazing with the rookie when i
00:42:22would
00:42:22i would be interested to find out when he stopped hating steph like last night about 9 30 yeah or
00:42:27or
00:42:28like two years ago they said they formed a little bit of a relationship over the years and
00:42:32lindenborg was like yeah steph's a great guy and whatnot so yeah i don't think there's any
00:42:35to be fair to yaksl he was only a freshman in college in 2016
00:42:39they've done a lot of maturing also didn't we all hate steph curry in 2016 oh i despised him i
00:42:45mean
00:42:45again i certainly did not not i'm saying not from a personality standpoint but if you cheered for a team
00:42:53that had aspirations steph curry was the single most terrifying player to go against in my life
00:42:59he's such a unicorn he's such a he's such a unique player that uh changed the basketball like i don't
00:43:05know how i could i could never hate steph i started closing my eyes when he would shoot threes
00:43:09because i knew what was going to happen when the ball was in the air and i couldn't bear to
00:43:14watch
00:43:14there was a bit of a heel turn for that entire warriors team once lebron came back from 3-1
00:43:19yeah
00:43:19and then it was compounded when they go on to get kevin durant but i never felt into villains i
00:43:24never
00:43:24felt like steph curry was the villain of that team the steph curry just that you know he's he's what
00:43:29six two he's out there changing the way basketball is played there's no it's undeniably cool to watch
00:43:34him like it was he was just brutal to be cheering against him like you knew he was going to
00:43:38rip your
00:43:38throat out yeah and he was he's just not a hateable guy it's not possible to hate him to me
00:43:42um well
00:43:43tell it to yaxel because look at the quote card right there but he doesn't anymore and now they're
00:43:47going to be teammates well he says he says he doesn't anymore he said that's true it could be lip
00:43:52service all right guys hour two coming up we got the baseball bonanza we got rob stone coming on
00:43:57talking a ton of world cup so we still got a lot more to get to on today's wake up
00:44:02but stew
00:44:03what what did you say the wake up but stew
00:44:08back hour two of wake up bars we say goodbye to kb so if you don't hear from the rest
00:44:13of the show uh
00:44:14rest in peace he's a good guy um yeah and i mean for today like he just left he'll be
00:44:20he'll be back
00:44:20he went out doing what he loved yeah talking sports randomly chiming in every 15 minutes i was
00:44:27to say honestly this is probably the thing that kb least loves oh yeah he hates doing this yeah
00:44:33he hates doing that but we love it with good reason nonetheless and so t's and p's to our good
00:44:38boy kb uh cables that's what i call him well said uh the nfl brendan soarsby did you see this
00:44:45yesterday
00:44:46so so i okay and and i think i was talking with jeremy our producer for the show and maybe
00:44:52i did a bad
00:44:53job of explaining this last week how the supplemental draft works right but it only takes place if there
00:45:00is a player that has to enter it that garners enough interest from nfl teams so it does not take
00:45:07place
00:45:07every year it doesn't have to take place however given the fact that brendan soarsby was viewed as
00:45:12kind of a consensus second round borderline first round guy we all kind of assumed yes brendan you
00:45:19assumed it i corrected you last week this assumption that he was a first round guy
00:45:23no no no no no no no no no no again that's you're wrong you did this last week no
00:45:28no full stop full
00:45:29stop you're you're having different conversation if we want to debate where he's viewed from a pure
00:45:35talent perspective that's a fine conversation we can have and like i can point you to endless draft
00:45:40guys that are going to disagree with you i don't care about that what i'm talking about though
00:45:44even you would say this is a guy that in a vacuum removed the context that got him here
00:45:51would garner enough interest to create a supplemental draft fair or not i'm not arguing about if he's no
00:45:57because i don't think he was ever that guy i don't think he was ever at cincinnati he was never
00:46:01a guy
00:46:01if he if t-bop if he had been a first round pick if he had been a consensus first
00:46:06round pick if he had
00:46:06been a 60 first round pick he would have gone on the draft last year like this is a guy
00:46:11who was
00:46:11clinging on to he he got an opportunity to go to texas tech and he was going to be able
00:46:16to compete
00:46:16in the playoff spot and he was going to improve his draft position if he were as good of a
00:46:20draft
00:46:20prospect as people seem to think he would have gone to the damn draft that's just period yeah
00:46:27look then look i i am someone i don't commit my life year round of the draft right i'm not
00:46:32grinding
00:46:32type year round of the draft so at certain points you have to be willing to lean on experts
00:46:37those experts also told you will levis was going to be a first round pick like those guys are idiots
00:46:41too okay yeah if i still think we're having a different conversation than the one i'm actually
00:46:47trying to have but connor you wanted to chime in here i was gonna say yeah like brandon comes at
00:46:53it
00:46:53from solely an opinion perspective based off what he's seen you're coming at it from what the experts
00:46:58the draft experts have seen yes they could get it wrong but there seemed to definitely be some
00:47:02interest for this guy where are these experts round second who are we talking about espn writers
00:47:07athletic writers i mean uh solac kiper like all all the draft people i don't know i would agree
00:47:14with you in the sense that if he didn't have this baggage massive baggage of all the gambling stuff
00:47:20coming with him then yes this would be a guy so the overall point shut up shut up this would
00:47:27be a
00:47:27guy you would want yes we're having two different conversations again like regardless of what your
00:47:31opinion is of soresby's talent he is a player that normally would gardener's humble on the draft
00:47:36but the nfl yesterday came out and was very pointed yeah in their rebuke of soresby you can see it
00:47:42here
00:47:43uh basically telling him look the world doesn't revolve around you your petition filed three business
00:47:50days before the deadline you got a little that kind of a little subtle shot without any sport
00:47:54information or documentation and only after abandoning your recent litigation effort to avoid ncw
00:47:59sanctions does not provide a basis for the league to alter those plans my then create a supplemental
00:48:06draft uh they would also later get after him about how uh what was the second quote he said
00:48:14uh you sought to avoid the consequences of the ncaa's determination through litigation rather than
00:48:20accepting responsibility for your actions and you pursued entry into the nfl only after banning those
00:48:27efforts so that's the key phrase right there i think i don't know that anything has ever backfired
00:48:32more than soresby going and getting a texas judge to to circumvent the ncaa's punishment i i think facing
00:48:40the punishment as a man and facing that and then fighting through that and fighting the long road back to
00:48:45get to the nfl draft would be way more impressive than what he did which is try to go get
00:48:50a sympathetic
00:48:50judge and and try to say uh try to try to make an exception out of him that didn't show
00:48:56the character
00:48:56the nfl's want to want to going to want to see the nfl is an organization that if you mess
00:49:02up
00:49:03but you fight back through the proper channels and you put yourself back together they will give you
00:49:07a second chance but if you try to circumvent everything and try to be special nfl's not going
00:49:11to go for that are you saying it's a bit childlike to just be like you can't put me in
00:49:14timeout like
00:49:16someone should be like go over the corner send timeout and he's like you can't put me in source
00:49:20these people source these people misplayed this the the entire way and kudos to texas tech for bailing
00:49:26out when they did and they said listen you know we're washing our hands of this the nfl now although
00:49:30i do think the nfl's a little full of it with that first line when they said your petition filed
00:49:35three
00:49:35business days this were a guy that they did think was a surefire you know number one you know first
00:49:41round pick it wouldn't matter if he filed that thing three minutes well if he didn't have the
00:49:45gambling baggage right it is it is the nature of the baggage and then as you and evo were talking
00:49:49about his response to said baggage looking a little petulant looking a little bit like
00:49:56everything revolves around me and the shield's gonna humble you like the league will will always go out
00:50:01of their way to humble you and and you know that's why when we go back to his draft stock
00:50:06and status
00:50:08all the intangibles and the things that the nfl don't like about what he's doing that would have
00:50:13come out in the background yes and the personality the guy i just don't think the guy was ever a
00:50:17draft guy uh and and i and i i just i just don't see it because uh it what comes
00:50:23to what's done in
00:50:24the dark always comes to the light they would have found out that he was not a guy they wanted
00:50:27to be
00:50:27in business with and that's what they feel it's it is it or it's because i mean you talk to
00:50:32katie
00:50:32and katie said he's like an incredible locker room guy all this other sort of stuff but
00:50:35so so the point is though he his eligibility to because of a weird legal quirk of his own lawsuit
00:50:44against the ncaa to try to enter the supplemental draft he cannot get his ncaa eligibility back
00:50:50he's been like it's the ban has been reinstated so he's done he'll have to try to enter next year's
00:50:56draft and if he's going to let's put up the list of quarterbacks in next year's draft and let's uh
00:51:02see
00:51:02where you would rank brendan soresby arch manning dante moore cj carr julian st trinidad chambliss
00:51:09leading the way i would either put him right before or right after trinidad chambliss probably
00:51:15right after i would go arch manning dante moore cj carr those are the three uh no brainers to me
00:51:20um sand needs to show me a little bit more this year chambliss is old and probably missed his best
00:51:26opportunity to go last year but he's still going to be better i think i don't like sellers has to
00:51:31improve so much mestemaker minza um i don't know if i would take him in this draft because i think
00:51:36he probably needs more starts they just started playing quarterback but i think of the names on
00:51:40this list i think drew mestemaker is the most interesting yeah well he's like one of the more
00:51:44exciting stories we have in all of where it's like you never he didn't play quarterback until the bowl
00:51:48game two years ago and then he lit it up yeah for north texas i think he's really interesting he's
00:51:54a
00:51:54walk-on he's making the big jump he's now going to be a walk-on to your point he never
00:51:58played
00:51:59quarterback to now he's making four million dollars him and morris teaming up to try to bring
00:52:03the oklahoma state back is fun but i don't know but i don't know but again this is the difference
00:52:08with soresby the traits the size and the speed with like the natural arm strength he has a lot to
00:52:17work
00:52:17on but if we're talking pure traits yeah like him and lenora sellers are probably the top two guys
00:52:25on this list i'd say mensa as well i'd put arch above and arch as well yeah um leadership though
00:52:32is a thing yeah no i'm talking physics sorry when i say traits i'm talking raw physical size and
00:52:36ability can i steal a moment here just since this list is looking at us can i just say something
00:52:40yeah
00:52:42i'm not as high on dante moore as a lot of people are i like every time the defense got
00:52:46good on the
00:52:47other side he got real bad real fast and and that's a problem to me now if he takes a
00:52:52big step forward
00:52:53against high level competition but every single time the defense on the other side was good he was
00:52:58not and i that troubles me i just put him in a second i think it's too high for him
00:53:04well i think you
00:53:05are betting a bit because i mean but let's go through moore's entire path because i think in the
00:53:10same way that resource these path maybe reflects poorly on him sure i kind of love moore's path
00:53:14right he he goes to ucla because he gets upset about them bringing was it nicks whoever they brought
00:53:19in to i can't remember which organ quarterback it was at the time but he leaves he's like well
00:53:23i'm gonna ucla i'm good enough i want to play immediately he gets humbled he then it comes
00:53:27back he accepts a subservient role okay i'm gonna study i'm gonna learn and then we got to remember
00:53:32like last year was his first year starting right so like in the context of first year starting he's
00:53:37pretty damn good but you're right if you like the next step is to perform at a higher level in
00:53:42those
00:53:42biggest games but i i could see the argument for betting on more yeah because of the maturity that
00:53:47he's shown along the path here yeah maybe last year he wasn't as good as people were saying he
00:53:52was but if he takes a step forward like you expect him to he can absolutely be the all these
00:53:57guys have
00:53:58another year to prove it so so more does have a chance to prove it to me if we're just
00:54:02bringing
00:54:02him so far i i can't see him in them who so far is one i i think and and
00:54:08this is uh this is almost
00:54:09contradictory to what i just said because he was so bad in september but by october november arch was
00:54:13really good i think arch is the complete package you're talking pedigree you're talking arm you're
00:54:18talking legs like he he's got everything he was really really really really bad in september and
00:54:24by october he started to figure out and by november he was really good and i think this year he's
00:54:28going to be great i i think chambliss tell that arch chambliss falls under the category of like
00:54:32elite college quarterback who is like crazy and chaos but i don't know if he's a true be 25 years
00:54:38old
00:54:38we'll see we'll see yeah but i mean the age thing though like if tyler shuck has a big year
00:54:42this year
00:54:42we're gonna have to start and and and i i can go through my brain brought your brain's probably
00:54:47better suited brand i know there's more examples but like the older quarterback thing like bo nicks
00:54:52seems to be working out for guys i don't mind an older quarterback but i really need to see him
00:54:56without lane kiffin and uh the offensive coordinator yeah yeah weiss jr like like i think they were doing
00:55:02some some heavy lifting there he's good he's really good caller in all of college but if he does if
00:55:06he if
00:55:07trend out chambliss is just as good this year without lane kiffin now we got a real real eyeball this
00:55:11list real quick give me who's playing in the college football playoff who could you see playing
00:55:15in the college football out of this list oh cj carr arch manning dante morris cj carr julian saying
00:55:22um and that yeah that and darry minsa minsa yeah i've been in there uh i mean look cj carr
00:55:29to me and
00:55:29i don't know what his nfl prospects are i've i haven't specifically read anything there but like
00:55:35cj carr coming online the way that he did last year and kind of representing something that notre
00:55:41name hasn't had in a long time or almost never has um if they can surround him with like cj
00:55:48carr is a
00:55:48player that i'm very excited to watch this and there's some names not there that were interesting
00:55:52like gunner stockton's not there like i i think he's got a chance to play himself into being a an
00:55:56nfl
00:55:56guy well we put that list up three times and not once did anybody mention mayava is there a reason
00:56:01for
00:56:01that i think just usc it's just fine that he's there but usc is just so kind of there you
00:56:08know like
00:56:08they're not they're not a difference making program there were some good stats last year
00:56:12yeah jade maavo was really good it's it's it's it's not about it's it's a good question by you
00:56:18connor that i don't know that i have a great answer he was the one person we didn't talk about
00:56:21yeah
00:56:21going over that list and can lane can lane uh rescue sam levitt i don't know the answer to that
00:56:25question this is uh i know we started this as a supplemental draft talk but i i the college
00:56:32football it's just sitting so good right i'm going on vacation next week when i come back
00:56:37yeah we're all go are you going to buy are you going to buy one of the magazines for vacay
00:56:41buddy i started looking yesterday i stopped at my local jewel osco and my cv i saw the lindy
00:56:47it's a lindy or is it out lindy's out i saw it in hudson news at the airport that's a
00:56:51good
00:56:51like yeah you know i wanted it so bad i went to athlonsports.com last night
00:56:55the fifa world cup rolls on with a triple header on fs1 bosnia and herzgovina gets cut
00:57:07at 3 p.m today we got morocco haiti at 6 and south africa south korea at 9 that's all
00:57:14today
00:57:14on fs1 we got six games total three fs1 three fox it's going to be a fantastic day of coverage
00:57:23and who better to talk about or to talk with the man who's at the center of it all okay
00:57:29good friend
00:57:30of the show he's been on multiple times but no time in which he's been busier than right now i
00:57:36could
00:57:36only be talking about rob stone rob what's up man how's it going thank you for doing even more on
00:57:42camera work than you're currently doing uh how's your tournament been thus far dude been an awesome
00:57:47tournament uh you know the fact that a lot of folks out there who don't love soccer and don't know
00:57:53much about world cup are absolutely leaning into it and talking about it wherever they are
00:57:57uh it just brings a stupid smile to my face you know whether you know i'm at the airport or
00:58:02at the
00:58:03hotel gym and people are talking about like the bosnian back line like they're deeply you know
00:58:09embedded with the the program and can't wait to see what the midfield of congo is going to do
00:58:13that stuff cracks me up and i love the fact that um it's in a lot of people's veins not
00:58:18just mine right
00:58:18now uh no it's it's absolutely insane and at least here on the home front uh a lot of the
00:58:24reason why
00:58:24is the literal unprecedented success that we've seen out of this men's national team through two
00:58:33group stage games back-to-back wins um already poch tied for bruce arena most wins as a as a
00:58:40manager
00:58:40and and u.s men's team history um it's it's it's been pretty unreal what's been your biggest takeaways
00:58:48from the u.s performances thus far well everything has gone right there hasn't been any adversity for
00:58:54them right getting early goals and back-to-back games you know they've played with the lead for
00:58:59majority of this tournament but they've been able to play you know with their heart out you know with
00:59:04that confidence with that swagger and that home field advantage has been real you know it was amazing
00:59:09in their opener here in la versus paraguay but it it got bumped up big time in seattle i'm sure
00:59:15you
00:59:15guys saw the images and heard the noise and you know there's a path right now really logical and
00:59:21sensible path of the u.s not only getting to the round of 16 but playing that game in seattle
00:59:26should
00:59:26they win the round of 32 game on july 1st so you know first up is turkey on thursday but
00:59:32the fact that
00:59:32a nation is absolutely behind this team uh is is is really kind of generating them and pushing them
00:59:40along brings a smile to my face as a as a dude who's been covering american soccer for decades you
00:59:45know to see that turnout that you're looking at right now in seattle um you know there was a reason
00:59:50i spun i spun my my back to the camera right because i wanted the show was behind me i
00:59:55wanted to see
00:59:56that crowd that atmosphere and listen to it and and they turned up and it was very much a big
01:00:01noon
01:00:02kickoff type vibe uh in seattle and we're expecting it again in la on thursday uh when you you look
01:00:09at
01:00:09there's so many different like pieces and elements of this team that we could put to the fore i think
01:00:15it's kind of insane that we've arrived here where uh palisic could miss the game right and yet you
01:00:21don't miss a beat and and you still control it in a style that we've never seen out of this
01:00:26men's
01:00:27team before where it's not defensive counter-tagging it is constantly applying pressure uh y'all y'all
01:00:33y'all are close to this team you're you you have all of the access are you getting the sense
01:00:38that this
01:00:39is a team that is rapidly starting to gain in confidence and believe themselves so you know what
01:00:45like maybe we can be a bit of the bully here yeah you know number one i think you hit
01:00:50the point when
01:00:51you said it's a team right it there there have been teams that aren't teams in the past no matter
01:00:56what the sport is right and particularly at a at an event like a world cup where you are with
01:01:00these
01:01:01dudes for weeks on end and they're the only people you see and the only break you get is if
01:01:06coach gives
01:01:06you a day off and you have like a family barbecue or something right but this team is has come
01:01:11together i don't know when it happened i don't know what triggered it but they definitely feel like
01:01:15a unit again i i think a lot of the home field atmosphere and home field advantage
01:01:19has been a big part of it um you know what this nation has done to to throw throw themselves
01:01:25at
01:01:25the feet of this team has has been a blast to see um the fact to your point though that
01:01:30we're on the
01:01:30front foot that we're attacking people it's not just the possession game and the u.s has dominated
01:01:35possession the first two games for me it's the fact that they're they're absolutely going at teams
01:01:40yeah you know um serginio dest is taking dudes on non-stop and and others aren't afraid to do that
01:01:47and
01:01:47there's been a big gap if you're an american soccer fan where you didn't see a whole lot of that
01:01:51and now we're getting it in in bushels and it's fun to watch and it's it's not arrogant it's confident
01:01:58it's energetic um and it is an evolution of a team for sure we are not bunkering down right now
01:02:04but
01:02:05listen there are going to be hopefully there are going to be days down the road where the big boys
01:02:10come into town right and and that's where the u.s has kind of hit that roadblock in the past
01:02:15at the
01:02:15world cup level is getting by one of those quote-unquote big boys the frances the germanies
01:02:19you know the argentinas the brazils the spains the whatnot but right now we're not there yet and
01:02:24and we're enjoying what they are delivering and they're playing a style i think this is more to
01:02:28your point that any fan would appreciate particularly american like they're going in hard they are
01:02:33hustling they're a blue collar but they are showing some flair and they're showing you know these
01:02:38little hints of i'm taking you on bro and that's the biggest thing in soccer if you take a dude
01:02:43on
01:02:43one v one it breaks the whole team down if you're successful and the u.s hasn't done it for
01:02:48years
01:02:48but man they are doing it at this world cup it is fun to watch hey rob it's uh brandon
01:02:53walker the
01:02:53number one college football media personality in the world uh first of all miss you uh secondly
01:02:59um the u.s team here in america is the coolest story i mean we're all buying into it we're
01:03:04all on
01:03:04board with it and everything the second coolest story i've seen out of this world cup this is just me
01:03:08i'm just a casual fan i'm not a soccer fan i'm casual i'm watching it but the days that we've
01:03:14had the three big stars mbappe messi holland and those guys doing what they're doing all scoring
01:03:19multiple goals multiple times like that has been the coolest subplot i have seen um what do you think
01:03:26about that subplot or that day when when those guys are taking center stage how awesome is that
01:03:30yeah it's it's amazing how the schedule worked out and how the shows the stars showed up right
01:03:37yeah you can even you can even go back to harry kane in game one with what he did you
01:03:40can go to
01:03:41what ronaldo did yesterday but you're right those those are the big three right now you know i've been
01:03:46able fortunate enough to see messi in person both games i've seen all five goals that he scored and
01:03:52and his godlike uh hold on his team and his nation which is surreal and then holland the future of
01:04:00this
01:04:00game you know it's kind of like past present future you know messi like let's enjoy him folks because
01:04:06this is it this is last call right with holland you know boy he's the next mega star but then
01:04:11you
01:04:12got killing mbappe doing just just things that that make you pull yourself out of your seat and he's at
01:04:18his absolute prime right now so you know tip of the hat to the schedule makers who just totally got
01:04:23lucky right with the dumb dumb luck blind draw but to have those three dudes on you know on your
01:04:30screen
01:04:31back to back to back essentially it it has been amazing amazing to see it's it's must see tv for
01:04:37us
01:04:37on those days i mean all those guys the other day seem to have the ball in the string and
01:04:42bob may
01:04:42had plays where he didn't score that remind me do you do you think well i mean it it's it's
01:04:47wild like
01:04:48he would have become the world cups all-time leading scorer here already in his third world cup if it
01:04:54wasn't
01:04:54for messi breaking the record himself uh do you do you think when this is all well i was gonna
01:05:01ask
01:05:02if you think mbappe eventually gets that record but i don't think that's a very relevant question
01:05:05no no he does i don't know if he gets it this summer and again there's no guarantees that you're
01:05:10gonna play in another world cup four years down the road right but you know the the way it's trending
01:05:14right now you see him where he sits right now tied with miroslav klosa i wouldn't i wouldn't put it
01:05:20against either of these guys you know no listen i don't think a lot of people had messi scoring five
01:05:25goals in the first two games on their bingo card uh so clearly something is going right with him and
01:05:32right with his nation but the way mbappe is playing and you know i i think they're the favorite right
01:05:37now france from what i've seen from them from you know top to bottom uh but hey man rick flair
01:05:43to be
01:05:43the man you got to beat the man and right now the man is lionel messi in argentina uh but
01:05:48i i think
01:05:49for me at least france france is the favorite at this moment but again you know everybody's only
01:05:54you know played two games and now today we we start to close things up with the group stage and
01:05:59simultaneous matches and we start to really kind of get a better idea of what the paths are forward
01:06:05for you know the the few nations that have moved on already which of course includes the united states
01:06:10well and and and i do want to revisit the u.s in a second but to stick with a
01:06:14couple more of the
01:06:15favorites uh england and portugal stories up to this point kind of similar in that you have one
01:06:21result where i'm not i'm not sure they should have then you have the other result where it's like oh
01:06:26my god yes we wanted let's start in the portugal side cristiano yes it was uzbekistan but cristiano
01:06:35needed this after the week of news that they had really after the half decade of not finding
01:06:40the back of the net in run of play in these major international games do you think portugal was
01:06:45kick-started yesterday or are you still betting that that game one performance is more the truth
01:06:50of the squad side no no no no i'm on the kickstart you know you could throw spain into that
01:06:54conversation
01:06:55as well you know they they didn't launch themselves into this tournament with that surprising draw but
01:06:59they did in in game number two and again you know we have limited points of data to look at
01:07:05during
01:07:06these tournaments right so every game you know is so over analyzed but you guys know it you know look
01:07:12at a march madness look at a college football season you know it's not so much how you start it's
01:07:17how you
01:07:17end right and you don't want to peak too early you want to keep building yourself up so i think
01:07:22portugal is building themselves up they have that confidence i love that image you're showing right
01:07:26there where it was ronaldo not like hey guys come to me when i score i'm coming to you i'm
01:07:31coming to the
01:07:31bench i'm embracing you i i think that's maybe an element that has been missing with with him with
01:07:37the national team where it's very me oriented and and not as we oriented as it should be and he
01:07:42needs
01:07:43that team to succeed uh more than probably any of those other stars um so i i think i i'm
01:07:50scared for
01:07:51portugal i think their their midfield might be the best in the world i still think they're one of the
01:07:54top
01:07:54five favorites for sure let's see what they do in their next game in miami uh where they have a
01:08:00real
01:08:00test coming their way but i i like how they are trending for sure and and to get ronaldo
01:08:05back and happy um he's a different player when he's when he's smiling and doing these celebrations
01:08:12than he is when he's a little bit disgruntled because things aren't going his way that's my one
01:08:16concern about portugal is again less me more we and portugal is going to be just fine and so with
01:08:22england uh same story different ordering of the chapters there fantastic against croatia yesterday
01:08:30frankly very lucky i i still don't understand how that wasn't a penalty and we've seen plenty
01:08:36of own goals this tournament that might be the only own save that i've seen out of the ghana game
01:08:41yesterday but how are we feeling about uh the english after after they end up with the draw
01:08:48not i'm fine you know should they have won yes our expectations were should they win yes ghana's a
01:08:53really good team and again you know i think you saw the real england in game one versus croatia and
01:08:59the depth they have and the talent they have on the bench again this is the biggest longest world cup
01:09:04in history so you're going to need more than just 12 guys or 13 guys you're going to need to
01:09:08get
01:09:09like a real 15 16 type deep i think england's going to be just fine i'm not worried about them
01:09:15uh every nation at a big tournament like this is going to have one of those days right and it's
01:09:21what you do with it it's how you overcome it england's going to be fine i'm not worried about
01:09:25them for me they are a guaranteed quarter finalist i would even say they feel kind of like a guaranteed
01:09:31semi-finalist damn wow uh well rob shifting back to america i don't know exactly how to phrase this
01:09:39question so i'll just say that off the top but you were talking about how that crowd in seattle like
01:09:44it
01:09:44felt like a a big noon kickoff type of crowd there's been a lot of talk about how do we
01:09:49grow
01:09:50the game in america obviously having it here on u.s soil this tournament is a great thing for that
01:09:55but
01:09:55did you feel that that moment on when when was what day was that in seattle was it thursday did
01:10:01you feel
01:10:01like that was a real inflection point and how do we as a nation kind of capitalize on that passion
01:10:07and that just rowdy atmosphere and that love for u.s soccer how do we bring that more so into
01:10:13future
01:10:14tournaments into this next stage of u.s soccer yeah it's an absolute moment that that will resonate
01:10:21and stay with that program and that fan base for sure and and listen it's going to stay with fox
01:10:25sports right i've seen that shot that sweeping shot of the fans i've seen this shot right here with
01:10:31them jumping and cheering behind our set you know that's going to be on a whole lot of our clip
01:10:36reels which
01:10:36means it was good right which means it resonated which means it hit and it popped and it made an
01:10:41impact and i guarantee you the players saw these images whether it was before the game or after the
01:10:47game things get shared and fed with them and you know you know family and friends are like you
01:10:52should have seen the scene outside and what this fan base was doing and seattle is notorious for this
01:10:57like this is where the u.s wanted to be that's why i'm so excited for them to potentially have
01:11:02around
01:11:02a 16 game in seattle because they were at 10 on that day they're going to find 12 and 14
01:11:08right on
01:11:08the volume meter so it yeah i think it was a moment listen i i've been saying for a long
01:11:15time you know
01:11:16the greatest parallel to college football and sports out there is soccer right it's it's they're they're
01:11:21kissing cousins right they're they run in the same type of circles they have the same friends they like
01:11:25to go to the same bars they like to do the same kind of thing right college football and soccer
01:11:30for me
01:11:31we're always always this and i love the fact that we are taking our show to the road to the
01:11:37fans and
01:11:38giving them this opportunity to do what they do so damn well particularly at a world cup so yeah i
01:11:44think
01:11:44that that was an absolute moment uh for u.s soccer and 100 there's a part of them in the
01:11:49back of their
01:11:50head that's saying hey man you know like let's take care of turkey on thursday let's take care of the
01:11:55round of 32 in the san francisco bay area but let's get our tails back to seattle and create
01:12:00another memory go full spinal tap this one goes up to 11. i don't know i watched i watched spinal
01:12:06tap the other day for the first time in like 15 years uh still very funny okay let's i i
01:12:11got a few
01:12:11rapid fire ones here uh let's talk path right because you've kind of been alluding to it but as
01:12:17this is breaking things feeling pretty damn friendly for this u.s team we project for the
01:12:23knockout stage because you're one year group you're going to get a third place finisher it's going to be
01:12:27the winner of cutter bosnia hurts convenia today or if they tie there's a few different options but
01:12:33you'll be favored then i believe in the round of 16 you would get the group g winner which is
01:12:39that
01:12:39egypt right now like this is this is if you could script it out everything seems to be breaking
01:12:47the u.s's way yes and and that that gives me pause and and that scares me but listen you
01:12:55know we're
01:12:55we're still u.s soccer and i don't mean that in a negative way but we haven't earned our stripes
01:13:00yet
01:13:01you know we yes we got to a semi-final that was 1930 the first time there was ever a
01:13:05world cup you
01:13:06know how you got to the world cup you got there on an ocean liner so if you could afford
01:13:09it then you
01:13:10could go to the tournament right so we could afford it and we we had to run to the semi
01:13:13-finals
01:13:14congratulations to that team but this is not modern day soccer so the last time we've done
01:13:18anything on the modern world cup stage is 2002 and that was a run to the quarterfinals right
01:13:23for me a run to the quarterfinals is is an absolute winner that is a huge banger i i know
01:13:29there's
01:13:29obstacles to come i look at that path as well and i too get giddy and excited and then i
01:13:35i find that
01:13:36handbrake and i pull it back a little bit like hey man again let's get through turkey on thursday
01:13:41you know let's get out of here healthy let's keep the good vibes going let's keep the rhythm
01:13:46and the momentum and let's keep the nation behind us as well and keep moving on um it's only going
01:13:52to get bigger it's only going to get louder the team has handled it great so far but yes i'm
01:13:56with
01:13:56you the path on paper right now looks fantastic
01:14:01but but but weird things happen in this sport and and i've seen it too many times to get cocky
01:14:06well and and it's one of those things where like and and this wasn't my proponent of so i kind
01:14:11of
01:14:11don't love that idea but i just did but like we should enjoy the journey because this is as much
01:14:16fun
01:14:16as i've ever had watching a team now one of the breakout stars that has led to that fun has
01:14:22been
01:14:22flo baligan and i want to get into a couple of questions about strategy against turkey he's sitting
01:14:27on a yellow he wants to play he's in the golden boot competition baligan police okay like strategy wise
01:14:34what are we doing with the starters come uh tomorrow's game yeah it's a fascinating question
01:14:39again you know it's it's this it's this rhythm versus rest type debate if you're on a yellow card
01:14:45and you get another yellow card thursday that means you're out for the round of 32 game that for me
01:14:51is
01:14:51a non-starter you're on a yellow right now you're sitting done that's easy to me that's a really easy
01:14:55decision the christian politic one is interesting again only played the opening 45 minutes of the first
01:15:00game he's had you know i don't know what the date is i feel like it's it's like double digit
01:15:05days to
01:15:06to get back i i talked with bob bradley greg berhalter bruce arena former u.s men's national team
01:15:12coaches on a podcast i'm doing for the during the world cup and they all agreed like listen if he
01:15:18is
01:15:18ready to go if he is cleared by the trainers you play him yeah that's not saying play 90 minutes
01:15:23that's probably like 45 minutes but get out there that's what i would do that's what the coaches would
01:15:28do i think that's what mauricio pochettino will do and then at some point probably in the second
01:15:34half you you take out those normal starters again you got old man tim rehm your captain in the middle
01:15:39of that back line he's played every minute of this tournament can you keep it going the guys the
01:15:44coaches you know they want that rhythm the players want that structure they want to they want to keep
01:15:49playing right and it's not like these guys have two days off three days off it's at least five days
01:15:53or
01:15:53six days going forward so i think if you're on a yellow card you're not playing you're going to
01:15:58play as many of your starters as possible while trying to bleed in some other talents a great
01:16:02opportunity by the way for a guy like geo reina to probably get a big run 75 or 90 minutes
01:16:08um you
01:16:08want to keep those vibes those good those good feelings going not only in the locker room but
01:16:14you know i think outside of the locker room you know this nation is now as you guys have talked
01:16:18about a buzz and they want to win and they want more energy and they can't wait to build to
01:16:23that
01:16:23july 1st round of 32 game in the bay area so i think you play it as normal as possible
01:16:29without
01:16:30risking any injuries and without risking guys on yellow cards well uh speaking of keeping the good
01:16:35vibes going rob uh y'all have done just that and then some uh the production of the entire tournament
01:16:41just been world-class top to bottom and you as the lead there doing you know no small part of
01:16:48that
01:16:48so thank you for making time for us today man and giving us some excellent insight happy to guys
01:16:52enjoy the tournament enjoy those six games today that's fine wait college football in two months
01:16:56that's right okay relax okay we got we got we have plenty of football to be excited i'm enjoying it
01:17:03but college football in two months yeah it's gonna be sick all right coming up next good segment evo look
01:17:09no eyebrows oh i can add them i'm saying you know i don't know okay close the answer next
01:17:17welcome back to wake up our stool let's close out the show today with a little
01:17:23yannis into the compo yannis traded to miami and and i gotta be so i i thought rusillo had an
01:17:29excellent take on yesterday's wake up where a lot of people seem to be painting this is like
01:17:35what does it actually do for the heat you know they're still the 14 the 15 and and that's not
01:17:39wrong
01:17:40but i do think if you take a step back and you just look at price paid for a player
01:17:47of yannis's
01:17:48caliber then it's easy to see like okay well in that context this is a big win for the miami
01:17:53heat
01:17:54so you could weigh in there brandon but the kind of extension here is do you think that yannis ends
01:18:00up
01:18:00winning a championship in miami no but you what matters now is the secondary and the third steps they
01:18:07take to put together a championship roster but ultimately the first step is the most important
01:18:11step they have they've taken the first step you you get him and you get bam you have an elite
01:18:16defensive team you have elite sides you have elite length good culture this is a good culture like
01:18:21this is the signal to the fan base and the nba we are serious about winning a title i think
01:18:26we're in
01:18:26one of the most competitive areas in the history of nba basketball they not only have to go through
01:18:30five or six teams in the east that are already in better shape than them they then have to deal
01:18:34with
01:18:34the west who's probably got five or six teams that are in better shape than them so there's
01:18:37it used to be easier to go get a star and immediately put yourself in championship contention
01:18:43now going to get the star is a guarantee of nothing yeah sure and and and i think that just
01:18:48speaks to how good the modern nba is it kind of reminds me of when the lakers uh first got
01:18:53luca
01:18:53where you could tell like oh this is really exciting but the pieces don't really make a lot of sense
01:18:58to
01:18:59win in the short term this team set up right now is not meant to win in the short term
01:19:04it's just a
01:19:04matter of whether or not they could put together a roster maybe the next cycle or the year after
01:19:08that whatever the case is however the main difference between the luka situation and the
01:19:12yana situation is that yana is older has well as injuries recently half injuries but we'll see if
01:19:20that can work out let's also be clear he didn't play a ton last year 36 days what he did
01:19:25play he was
01:19:26incredible and this the streak broke because of last season but before that seven years in a row he's
01:19:33on an all nba team yeah so like he's not like he's 31 yeah i i i yeah let's not
01:19:39overstate maybe
01:19:41the age is there one of luka's teammates that he joined in la lebron james he's kind of reentered
01:19:46the new cycle imagine that should lebron go to miami should lebron bring it back and go to his back
01:19:53to his second home i i you say that i love the idea of an all-family team get get
01:19:58the nasus get brawny
01:20:00get lebron alex how many how many uh how many brothers does john has get them all down there
01:20:06all four of them right yeah get all get all the family honest and then all of family brawn they're
01:20:11left behind in this whole thing the thing is miami's not going to be able to afford you and me
01:20:15to fill out this roster let alone lebron james no this this would just be lebron james being like
01:20:21i have enough money and i think it's fun to go play in miami again and see what i can
01:20:25do sure
01:20:26i think he'd more likely go to cleveland though i mean right if you're returning somewhere yeah
01:20:30but he already did the return to cleveland do another one i know i don't want that good luck
