00:00Let's turn to tonight's good news today story. Now one of the creditable things the Modi government
00:04has done is to honor people, anonymous people doing extraordinary work with the Padma Awards.
00:11Among those who stood out this year was Inderjeet Singh Sidhu, the former Deputy Inspector General
00:17of Police who spends his days cleaning up a problem most Indians avoid confronting but many
00:23knowingly help create the garbage they discard. Take a look at this inspirational story.
00:39Every morning, while most of the city is just beginning its day, 88-year-old Inderjeet
00:46Singh Sidhu heads out with a simple purpose. Not for a morning walk, not for exercise, but
00:57to clean his city.
01:01For nearly three decades, the former IPS officer has spent hours picking up litter from Chandigarh's
01:08streets, parks and public spaces. Long before Swachh Bharat became a national movement, Sidhu
01:17had already made cleanliness his personal mission.
01:29After retiring as Deputy Inspector General of Police in 1996, he noticed garbage piling up
01:36around public areas during his daily walks. Instead of complaining, he decided to do something
01:42about it. And he hasn't stopped since.
01:48He has stopped since. He decided to do something like this.
01:50He said, Chandigarh is a beautiful city of Chandigarh. The city of Chandigarh was not a
01:54clean city here. We must not be a clean, clean.
02:12Born in Punjab Sangrood district, Siddhu served the nation for decades in uniform, rising
02:19through the ranks of the police service and earning the police medal for meritorious
02:24service. Today, he says, cleaning the city is simply another form of public service.
02:54His family says neither age nor recognition has changed him.
03:19Sardar Indarjeet Singh Siddhu.
03:26After he was conferred with the Padma Shri by the President, Indarjeet Singh Siddhu is an
03:31inspiration not just for Chandigarh, but for the entire country.
03:46For him, however, the mission remains simple.
03:49A cleaner city, a better society and a belief that real change begins when citizens choose
03:57to act.
