00:00Londoners flocked to the capital's canals as soaring temperatures led people outside
00:04seeking refuge, turning the waterways into a cooling hub on Tuesday.
00:10Narrowboats navigated through the water whilst people lined the canal's edges, sunbathing,
00:15fishing, swimming and watching boats pass through the locks.
00:19Chief Operating Officer at Islington Boat Club, Darren Greenwood, said the water attracts
00:25people when the temperatures are high.
00:26I think water generally when it's hot attracts people anyway, but the enticement of being
00:31around water, I guess it helps cool people down, obviously get the breeze as well when
00:35you're next to the canal, so yeah I think that's it and obviously the attraction of being on
00:39water is obviously a lot higher when bringing 35 degree heat, so yeah it's good for our business
00:44anyway.
00:45Among those enjoying the area, cycling along the canal fitness instructor DS said the waterway
00:51offered a break from the hot conditions.
00:53Coming down here to refresh from the heat as the water's here, it's very hot and very
00:59muggy, so yeah coming on the canal is nice and relaxing and refreshing, especially when
01:03you're having a little break and now we're going to go off on our way, on our cycle.
01:07For many people, the canals are becoming more than just scenic spots, providing valuable spaces
01:13to cool down and escape from the rest of the city.
01:23witha!
01:24You can look into the small butt and keep that resting.
01:26That way I'll have to explain in the language thereof.
