A lorry driver who used his vehicle to stop a runaway express bus near the Menora Tunnel in Perak has been honoured for saving 21 passengers.

Wong Tuck Meng, 40, received a special certificate of appreciation and RM10,000 from the government at a ceremony in Parliament on Tuesday (June 23).

00:08and 10,000 ringgit from the government at a ceremony in Parliament on Tuesday
00:13for using his vehicle to stop a runaway express bus near the Menorah Tunnel in Perak,
00:19saving 21 passengers.
00:21Transport Minister Anthony Luke said the award, from the Road Safety Council Fund,
00:26recognised Wong's quick thinking during the June 15th incident in which a Kedah to Kuala Lumpur bus
00:33suffered a technical fault and lost control coming down a hill near the tunnel.
00:38Luke said because of the quick action of one driver, a tragic accident was avoided and many lives were saved.
00:46Wong had let the bus latch onto his lorry to slow its momentum,
00:50then steered towards the guardrail to bring it to a stop without veering off.
00:54Wong had honked continuously to warn traffic ahead
00:58while his lorry shielded those in front of him from the bus.
01:02Earlier, the Dewan Rakyat, chaired by Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr. Ramli Mohamed Noor,
01:08also recorded its appreciation and thanks to Wong for his bravery
01:12after Luke tabled the Road Transport Amendment Bill 2026 for its second reading.
