The Philippine National Police (PNP) has urged the strict monitoring of children’s use of social media and gadgets, following the fatal gun attack at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte, on Monday, June 22, where 3 students were killed and at least 13 were injured.

00:17According to PNP Chief General Jose Melencio C. Nartates Jr.,
00:21he stated that parents and guardians serve as the first line of defense
00:25and that they must be present and vigilant in their children's digital lives.
00:29Nartates said that one of the suspects had posted gun-related and violent videos online before the incident
00:35and are now treated as possible warning signs.
00:39He also emphasized ongoing coordination with education officials
00:43to institutionalize preventive measures in schools nationwide.
00:47The police have earlier said that they intend to sit down and discuss with the Department of Education
00:51and local government units on security measures in schools and academic institutions following the gun attack.
