Transcript
00:00This week's episode of First Things First, First Michelle Yu checks in with Bob Baffert and the connections of Mizumi,
00:07who is now a perfect two for two after winning the grade three summertime bonus.
00:17Not only is Bob Baffert joining me, Frank, but I also have Elsa from Frozen. No, Elsa.
00:22Oh, Elsa. Oh, yeah.
00:23Bob doesn't want to launch a Disney, all right?
00:25So this is Summer?
00:26This is Summer. Say hi.
00:28Who's this guy?
00:30Papa?
00:31T-shy.
00:33Oh, I hear you. She wants her mommy.
00:35All right, you can have mommy.
00:37Come on, mom. Come on, mom. We're very family friendly here. Say bye, Summer.
00:42It's on Summer. She's so cute, Bob. Who's that?
00:45Oh, that's Canyon. My son Canyon and Kirsten, my first granddaughter.
00:50I love it.
00:51She turned three after the Belmont. Always easy to remember. She was born the day before the Belmont.
00:56And so grandpa's name is Papa?
00:58Papa.
00:59Papa. Papa. I love it. I'm going to start calling you that. Papa Bob.
01:02Jill is lovey.
01:03I can tell who she likes better.
01:05Lovey. Yeah, she loves Jill.
01:07All right, speaking of love, we love Mizumi right here. Fantastic effort. What were your thoughts?
01:11You know, that was pretty impressive, you know, for a second time out. And Ricky Gonzalez, he rode her the
01:17first time. Poor guy. But, you know, he's filling in for Juan. But he rode her great that day. And
01:22then today, you know, second out to be stuck behind horses. And Juan rode her with a lot of confidence.
01:30And you could just tell she was just kicking on. And Juan came back. And I could tell he was
01:35pretty impressed. It's hard, you know, these riders.
01:37But, you know, she's owned by the shoes who are, you know, they've been great clients of mine. And they
01:44kept bringing to Justify. And we finally got a good Justify, which is, you know, on the dirt, you know.
01:50So we're excited about that.
01:51Watching her, I look at like at one point, she was maybe just going to go backwards. And she really
01:55found something deeper. Have you always thought that she wanted to go the route of ground?
01:58We were just happy to get her to the races, you know. So, but, you know, the way she wanted
02:03her first out. And then, yeah, at the two and a half, I think she was in awkward position. But
02:08when he asked her to go, she took off. And then at the eighth hole, she just caught another gear.
02:13So that's something that, you know, you want to see down the road. So it's nice to have a good
02:18three-year-old filly like that. She's a stakes winner.
02:21Yeah, but today, that was pretty impressive. I was really impressed with it myself.
02:25I think we were all impressed except maybe Summer.
02:27That's right.
02:28She had her money on a different horse. But congratulations here, Bob.
02:32That was her first TV interview, by the way.
02:33Was it?
02:34There you go.
02:34You know what? She's got a very good face for the TV. We have to work on what she's going
02:38to say next time.
02:39That's right. Thank you.
02:40All right. Congratulations, Papa.
