00:16The leader of this sect, a couple of years ago, has been arrested in France. What do you thought that
00:22is interesting to talk about this story?
00:25It was a psychological inquiry, actually. I genuinely was curious about how these kind of worldly educated people had managed
00:38to get what the process was that they had gone from being guided by an organisation or a school into
00:48being abandoning some of their own instincts
00:51and being serving something that was greater than themselves, that wasn't good for them.
00:58I wanted to understand the mechanisms by which that happened. And secondly, it was also the fact that when we
01:04started making the series, the Guru Bivalaru was still operating in Paris and women were still going to visit him
01:12for initiations.
01:13He is actually arrested in the process of our filmmaking. And so we felt at that stage that this was
01:19something that had a kind of journalistic purpose, that it wasn't a retrospective story.
01:25This was something that was unfolding in front of our eyes and it was of public interest.
