00:00And by the way, some news that's just coming across, Clint.
00:03Nico Collins and the Texans have agreed to adjust his contract
00:07that guarantees in 2027 it includes a $9 million cash increase this year
00:13and $8 million cash increase next year per agent Drew Rosenhaus.
00:20Drew got a son in here working, I'm guessing, here.
00:23I guess a cousin or something like that.
00:25He's got a son in here working.
00:26Well, we had heard around the draft that potentially teams may be coming
00:32after Nico Collins because the thought was that he is going to need
00:37a new contract of some sort.
00:42Well, it looks like the Texans and Nico Collins and them have worked out
00:45something here to where he is going to get an additional nine this year
00:49and an additional eight next year.
00:51So it looks like that part in terms of money with Nico Collins
00:55is now taken care of.
00:56So Nico, Aziz, Will, all in the space of being taken care of financially
01:06going into this season.
01:07Yep.
01:09What?
01:10I know where you're going with it.
01:11I'm not going anywhere.
01:12I just let this sit there.
01:13I mean, this is a hell of a deal for the Texans, boys.
01:15I mean, CJ deal aside, this is a hell of a deal for the Texans.
01:25I mean, three-year deal that was originally signed in 2024.
01:33That was $75 million.
01:34So you're looking at $25 million a year.
01:36Now they've added nine to it this year.
01:38And I don't know how it was paid out.
01:39I don't care how it was paid out.
01:40If you're just looking at the numbers, three years, 75, that's $25 a year.
01:44You add nine to this year, this coming year, right?
01:47So now you're up at $34.
01:49You add eight to next year.
01:51Now you're at $33.
01:52And you accomplish that.
01:54Keep him happy.
01:55Keep him from holding out.
01:57You know, keep him getting bad vibes and wanting to leave.
02:01And, you know, add a little money to the pot for a receiver
02:06that clearly is one that you put all your eggs in that basket.
02:10Yep.
02:11Yep.
02:12You put it all in that basket.
02:13And there is no, like, you can't be prepared.
02:16You can't look at anybody else and say they're prepared to jump into that role
02:21if something happens.
02:22So he is somebody you got to keep happy.
02:25And you want to keep engaged and you want to be in a good spot.
02:28And they have taken care of those players.
02:29He's a guy, he's a guy, outside of the injury issues with Nico Collins,
02:37I just, I mean, he's a guy that you want to keep him here in a Texans uniform
02:41as long as you possibly can.
02:42Clearly, for whatever reason, he and his representation are willing to,
02:50you know, they're willing to accept, not only negotiate,
02:54but they're willing to accept team-friendly type deals.
02:57I mean, and again, I don't know if that has to do with the injuries.
03:03I don't know why.
03:04Maybe he just loves Houston.
03:05I have no idea.
03:07But, I mean, these are super-friendly Houston Texans.
03:11Like, the fact that he doesn't go play another year for 25 or whatever the number is,
03:16either way it goes, he's already made the money or he's going to make the money.
03:19Right?
03:20He goes and plays for another 25.
03:24And if he just has a 1,200, 1,300-yard season,
03:26could potentially have a 1,500 or 1,600-yard season if he can stay healthy.
03:30And then he's got them over a barrel next year.
03:33Right?
03:34With one year left on the deal, everybody under the sun would know that, hey,
03:38$25 million for this dude, given what he's done,
03:40now he's got you over a barrel, and now you've got to sign a three-year extension
03:44and paying probably damn near $40 million a year kind of deal.
03:48Like, it's – I'm glad that the way that they've been able to work things out
03:53with Nico Collins because he is – he could make more if he chose to take a
03:59different avenue.
04:00They could take it and shove it.
04:01Like, we're not trading Nico.
04:02Yep.
04:03No Nico.
04:03Nico, somebody they're looking at.
04:05Hey, and we want to make sure he's happy.
04:07We want to make sure he's here.
04:08We want to make sure he doesn't have any crazy thoughts or disgruntled at all,
04:12which I don't think Nico would be, but you never know.
04:14They're not even taking that chance.
04:16They made that right.
04:17Aziz made that right.
04:18Will Anderson took care of him.
04:21Maybe CJ's in on this.
04:22You know they – we'll see.
04:23We'll see.
04:23They've got a little time here.
04:24Maybe he's in on this.
04:25Yeah.
04:26And maybe – maybe not just in on this in terms of – I still don't think he's
04:30going to get his money this year.
04:32Maybe he's like, all right, man, just – maybe they ain't coming.
04:34You take care of everybody else, and then you guys can take care of me next year.
04:37Well, assuming that – the crazy thing here is, you know,
04:42is not that they're paying these guys.
04:46You know, the – and I don't know that the decision of this guy or that guy,
04:52the either or, has come into play yet.
04:55But they've got Nico – you know, you look at Nico, you look at Dalton now.
05:01Obviously, the guys on the defensive side of the football that they've paid,
05:04they're all no-brainers.
05:06Yeah.
05:07You know, let's just say – and right now, when you're paying – your rookie
05:11quarterback is on a rookie minimum – I mean, on a rookie salary.
05:15When that's going on, and you've got plenty of money in the bank,
05:18and I know that's not how it went with the calculus, but you get the point.
05:21It's like, you've got additional funds, and when you're not paying a quarterback
05:24$60 million a year.
05:25And if you're – and you look around, you're like, it's a no-brainer.
05:29Nico is a team guy, 100%.
05:31Nose down, grinds his ass off.
05:33Again, with the exception of the injuries, he's what you want.
05:36Right?
05:36You look at all the defensive guys, exactly what you want.
05:38Daniil Hunter paid him big money, exactly what you want.
05:40Stays healthy and balls out.
05:42Will, look at Stingley, obviously.
05:46Petrie.
05:47I mean, all these guys are like, no-brainer, right to check.
05:51How quick can we get it done?
05:53You know, so – but it's got to come to an end at some point
05:57if you're going to pay seven.
05:59If not, then maybe that's the plan.
06:02Yeah, if it doesn't come to an end, then that means you're probably not going
06:06to pay him or other plans.
06:09But that is – that is – everybody that you would think, as you said,
06:17are no-brainers are getting taken care of.
06:21And for the longest time, you would think that C.J. was in that boat.
06:27For a long period of time until maybe the end of – until the playoff games.
06:34Well, I tell you, we've talked a lot about this, Ryan.
06:37In the boat of we want to make sure they're happy, they're not disgruntled,
06:40they don't come in in any –
06:41Well, there's – you know, to me, there's a couple of things.
06:44And we've talked a lot about C.J. Stroud and the no contract
06:48and the whys and hows and wins of the situation.
06:54But there is – part of it has to do – I do believe that there's a lot of value
07:01put on playoff performances.
07:05And the way they've exited, I think two of the three, it's not –
07:09obviously last year was awful, but two of the three, it's not been pretty.
07:12So I do think that in this particular organization,
07:15that those big moments do weigh heavy on the decision makers.
07:20But I don't – I mean, and I know we hear some things
07:22because we cover them so close.
07:24They're absolutely – the more I think about it,
07:26there has to be so much that we don't know that's going on behind closed doors.
07:32Oh, with their feelings with C.J.
07:35Yeah.
07:36I mean, the Bobby Slowick thing, there has to be so much more to it
07:41than, oh, they just weren't – even though it's crazy to think your O.C.
07:43and your quarterback were talking for three weeks.
07:45But that – but like to think like that, the Gerard Johnson, C.J. Stroud –
07:51and I'm not saying that's why they got – I'm just saying that what led to the point
07:54of like, hey, we've got to part ways and we've got to make the decisions
07:57that's best for the team, right?
07:58Yeah.
07:59A lot of times the reason you've got to make a decision that's best for the team.
08:02Like the reason – I would bet a huge chunk of money.
08:06Like the reason that you move on from Gerard Johnson
08:09and you insert Szaplinski is not because he's a better quarterback coach.
08:16It's 100% because he is loyal to Kaylee and Casario.
08:22And he is well-versed in their offense and he is their soldier, so to speak.
08:29You know, they were – they can sit around and go, oh, we're going to make the best decision
08:32for the team.
08:32And that was the best decision for the team given the circumstances.
08:36Yeah.
08:36It's not the best – maybe not the best quarterback coach, but the circumstances
08:40that have been created, that's the route we have to go and that's what's best for the team.
08:43I bet – I just – I'd be willing to bet you a huge chunk of money.
08:47There's a lot that's gone on behind the scenes.
08:50And I'm not just talking about the typical behind the scenes with an NFL team.
08:54I'm talking – that's led to some of these changes.
08:57Next line coming through.
08:57CJ about to sit out with this Nico News.
08:59I don't think he is.
09:00I think he is – I don't think this blindsides CJ.
09:06Like it.
09:07To me, and for some reason, it just – with the wording – I've said this –
09:11with the wording of how the Texans are approaching things
09:15and how quiet things have been and how much we've seen of CJ still being in town,
09:19it appears that there's been some sort of communication that this is the route we're going.
