As Perth prepares for a scorching start to summer, the state government has launched a free bus service for beach goers. It's hoped the "Surf CAT" will help alleviate parking issues and accommodate growing crowds at one of Perth's most popular beaches.

00:00The ocean is often a welcome relief during the hottest days of summer.
00:06Now one of Perth's most popular beaches will have a dedicated bus for the warmest months.
00:13This is something that I think will be very well utilised just like our cat services in the city
00:19and one that will support people visiting this beautiful part of the world and support local business.
00:24The state government's surf cat is a free link between Stirling Station and Scarborough Beach
00:29running every ten minutes daily.
00:31Anybody that's come to Scarborough knows that parking throughout summer,
00:34even coming into winter, is becoming really, really difficult. This is an answer to that.
00:38The $17.8 million election commitment launches on Sunday with four buses to start servicing the route.
00:45One local business owner says redevelopment has made Scarborough a victim of its own success.
00:50We've been here for seven years, so definitely one of the biggest chats day to day is probably the parking problems,
00:57you know, so anything that's alleviating some of that strain I guess is really good to see.
01:02The new bus service even offers space for up to six surfboards.

01:14Maximum temperatures throughout WA are likely to be above average during the summer months.
01:20The Bureau says the first day of summer will start hot at 38 degrees before cooling down.
01:25East and northeasterly winds over inland parts of the state are bringing a hot, dry air mass towards the west coast.
01:32And it's this that is causing above average temperatures.
01:35Hitting the beach said to be easier for those looking to cool down this summer.

01:43we are carrying sites on our seas in the Caribbean and we will make it easier to be carried out on the rest.
