04:34Well, all we need to do is we just need to wait for the tide to go out a bit

05:15It's important to go rock pooling with a grown-up
05:19And they can tell you when the tide is out
05:21And when it will come back in
05:23You have to wear sturdy shoes too
05:25Ones that can get a bit wet
05:27And the rocks are covered in seaweed
05:29And can get quite slippery
05:30So make sure you step carefully

05:42We are on a rock pool safari
05:46Oh, safari's so goody
05:49So, Jane, if these tiddlers here have been telling me about these rock pools
05:52What types of things might we find?
05:54Well, if we turn over some of these boulders
05:57We might find some tiny creatures called little brittle stars
06:00Oh, brittle stars
06:02They sound a bit exciting, don't they?
06:04There's one
06:05I'm just going to put it into this bucket
06:07So that we can have a closer look
06:12Ah, wow
06:12If you didn't know what you're looking for
06:14You might miss it
06:15Can you see it as well?
06:16Oh, this little fella's really small
06:19But the root finder's showing us one that's bigger
06:23Ah, and this fella's even bigger than that
06:28So, but if you look here
06:31Shit
06:32There's quite a hard, curly, white thing
06:35Can you see that?
06:36It's called a keelworm
06:37And what it is, is the tube of a worm
06:41And it's made this hard tube and it's living inside it
06:45And when the tide comes in
06:46The worm will stick its head out the end there
06:49And put out tentacles and grab all the particles of food
06:57The tiddlers set off to look for more creatures
06:59Where Judith said it was safe to go
07:05Back at the big rock pool
07:07Judith's found something else
07:08On the rocks
07:10We've got some big sea snails here
07:13They are common limpets
07:15This animal, at the moment
07:17Is clamped down on the rock
07:19And a high tide, when the tide comes rushing in here
07:22It'll let go
07:23Go for a little walk around
07:25About three feet away from where it lives
07:26And it will be eating young seaweed on the rocks
07:30Then it will go back to exactly the same place
07:33It started off from
07:35And on the rock
07:38Now and again
07:39You'll see this bear patch
07:40Can you see any over your side?
07:42Is there a bear patch, a little circle?
07:44That's one, yeah, well done
07:46And that little circle
07:47Is something called a home scar
07:50Because this animal will grind its shell into the rock
07:53And only its shell will fit that space
07:56So where there's bare spaces
07:58Is where that animal didn't come back
08:00Now I've just seen something
08:02Scooting around in the pool
08:04And I'm going to try and catch it
08:06But they're really fast moving
08:08Here we have it

08:13So this animal has got thin legs
08:17And they're really stripy, aren't they?
08:19Like blue and yellow
08:20Like football socks
08:21Does anyone know what it is?
08:23A lobster
08:23It looks a little bit like a mini lobster, doesn't it?
08:26And it's sort of the cousin of a lobster
08:29It's a common prawn
08:30It's a prawn
08:32So we're going to set the prawn free
08:34Back into its rock pool
08:35Bye bye prawn
08:39These prawns certainly can move
08:41Wow, look at him go
08:45The Tiddlers are taking photos of the creatures they see
08:48With a camera rolled along in the back
08:52And remember, be careful not to hurt the creatures you find
08:56Because just like the Tiddlers
08:58These creatures love where they live
08:59So it's important to put them back
09:02In the same rock pool they came from
09:05OK Tiddlers
09:06So what we've got here is an animal called a sea anemone
09:11And although at low tide it looks like a blob of jelly
09:15That's because it's pulled inside itself all of its tentacles
09:19And it would have about 200 tentacles
09:21Which when it's in water will all be out and moving
09:24And it will look a bit like a flower
09:27Oh, those anemones are beautiful
09:31Hey, it looks like a garden
09:32A garden under the sea
09:35That's quite a big word to say isn't it, an anemone
09:38Can you say that Tiddlers?
09:39Shall we all try anemone?
09:41Anemone?

10:10And sea snails scurry to and fro eating tiny bits of seaweed on the rocks
10:16And when the tide goes out again
10:18This crab, with his glippy claw and beady eyes
10:21Scuttles off to find a hiding place
10:35The Tiddlers are drawing pictures of all the creatures we've seen today.
10:40And some we didn't.

10:45They're going to stick them and the photographs into their scrapbooks and then take them home.

11:01Now, we didn't see any jellyfish today, did we?
11:03Oh, because they don't live in rock pools.
11:05They live further out to sea.

11:11We've got pictures that we've taken today.
11:13We've got the drawings of all the things we've seen in the rock pools.
11:17And then you can take them away and they'll remind you of this fantastic seaside safari we've had.
